Why is public health so important to take into account when dealing with the field of medicine? While these schisms may seem unrelated, it is vital to pair them together to create more effective solutions in the field of health and medicine. Redesigning the healthcare system can create change and improve lives.
He was the Chief Medical Officerfor Chronic Disease and Injury Prevention in the Wisconsin Division of Health for almost a decade, and joined the Department of Population Health Sciences in 1997. Since, he was the first Director of the UW MPH Program, the UW Population Health Institute, and the UW Preventive Medicine Residency Program; was the first Associate Director for Population Health Science in the Carbone Cancer Center, and was the inaugural Associate dean for Public Health in the renamed, School of Medicine and Public Health. This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Learn more at www.ted.com/tedx

As a Doctor of Public Health, it pains me to even think that there are schisms between the two, but it is very real and sad that many hospitals depend on the illness of individuals to remain in business

The goal of public health is the health of all people. Medical technology is about treating individuals for their illnesses. Public health is for the benefit of all, and all are treated the same, regardless of your race or income. Medical technology is for the benefit of the individual, and access to medical care requires you to have lots and lots of money, to measure the value of life in money, to buy life with money.

Public health Concerns about Community while they prevent the diseases before they occur while Medicine Concerns individuals and they diagnose and Treat the patients so prevention is better than curing like Immunizations, Health education, health promotions, awareness and Nutrition

But people don't want prevention..people would rather pop a pill than cut off on their bacon.

For this speech (and others), what is the best way to find the references used by the speaker? Some stories and statistics are worth mentioning as I do my own research on the subjects, but I need to back it up. Wonderful and powerful talk. Thank you for sharing this with the world.

I wish this was how all Dr's thought, but sadly only a miniscule of 0.05% Drs think this way and work towards it

Medicine cold dark reality comment is amazing and so true. However it’s insane- as we’re not even considering the contributors to the etiology we’re dealing with.

@@oscarmendez1477 because only the last five minutes really hone in on the nature of medicine and public health alike in a comparative sense. If that’s where your primary contextual investment’s … invested, you can easily do without the first 13 minutes. It’s just about what different people kind of need and want depending on what it is they’re trying to find out/research.
Stay on your way 🛤️✨
