I think a huge part of the fear is not understanding whats happening to ur body. I remember complaining (and i still complain) about how hollywood films bastardize womens ideas about birth and delivery and make it out to be a sort of joke, a quick process that begins and finishes in cut scenes.... and they never dive into post partum. Then ofc men dont know anything about babies so alot of them dont research what they can do to help mom out, and lastly women themselves go into labor without mentally preparing.

My mother didn't know back in the 90s what hypnobirth is, but she gave natural birth to me and my brother. She always told me how during the labor she was thinking about the comfort of her children and how painful they must feel. I think hypnobirth is something that can come so natural to a woman, if she doesn't let the fear dictate her experinece.

Awwww just love this share!! Three positive and beautiful experiences....and it happens when a mama-2-b takes her birth experience into her own hands, learns about the miracle she is about to experience, understands the workings of her beautiful body and how her baby is a team player in the birth too....its the most exquisite experience!! I also became a Hypnobirthing teacher after my 15minute birth....It was MAGIC, exquisite and that birthing moment is stored in my cells as the greatest experience I have had in my life. So many blessing to you and family. Sonia

I’m pregnant with my fourth and going for a VBA2C. Can I ask how you got yourself passed that mental hurdle? Believed in yourself to do it?? I’ve had three very traumatic labors, but I don’t ever want to be cut open again.

@@thisisclaudiawang For me, it was the active effort to fill my mind with new images and facts about birth, looking for stories of those who achieved a VBAC, and doing all I could to stay calm and informed Hypnobirthing helped me heal some of my fears. I was trying to make it an empowering experience in which I could make my own choices instead of just fearfully accepting everything they told me. And if for some reason a c section is needed, even those can be respectful and loving experiences.

This is an amazing video! But I feel like I have to share a warning here... Birth is such an unpredictable experience, and while hypnobirthing can be a great help to assist women in relaxing, you have to be mentally prepared when things don't go as planned. I had a super calm, easy pregnancy. My mom gave birth to me in 2 hrs. I watched so many hypnobirthing videos, read books, articles, found a midwife and I was so pumped and excited for my hypnobirthing homebirth!!! But despite us being told that we had a small baby (ultrasounds can be off by as many as 2 lbs and my husband and I were both tinyyy), I ended up having an 8.5 lb baby with a head in the 99th percentile ...I had to have an emergency hospital transfer. I tore in 5 different places, and couldn't pee for 10 days (had to have a catheter). No amount of hypnobirthing is going to take the pain away when your skin is being torn in 5 places. We did everything right, the perineum stretching/massaging, breathing techniques, etc. But sometimes it just doesn't work. And women who are taken by surprise by how unexpected these things can be often have traumatic birth experiences. I'm all for natural and hypno birthing. But women should also be made aware of the reality & unpredictability of birth. And to be made aware that it's ok if things don't go as planned and that they should not blame themselves. Birth is an amazing victory no matter how you accomplish it and your baby's gonna love their mama no matter what kind of birth they had.

Anna D I practiced for weeks and followed all the hypnobirthing techniques but suffered a 3rd degree tear and felt a lot of pain. I would still try it again but at home next time. I don’t think it’s realistic to hope for a “pain-free” birth but you can absolutely have a natural birth and just manage your pain with your mind
@alyssamay3485 жыл бұрын
Very important to keep in mind! The hypnobirthing mindset can be a very helpful approach and it is nice to hear birth stories that are not horror stories, but moms shouldn't be made to feel like they did it "wrong" if they didn't have a pain free or complication free birth. I actually did not study hypnobirthing prior to my first birth, but I did approach it very relaxed and confident - this certainly helped me get through it but it was by no means pain free and it was a very, very long labor - I feel like I often hear messages that if you are relaxed, the baby will slide right out which is also not true for many people!
@ohana-bordi4 жыл бұрын
Thank you for your comment. I love the mantra from Marie Mongan: “I’ll calmly take whatever turn my birthing will take.” You can still use hypnobirthing even if you need interventions, the key is to not panic ❤️❤️❤️

Sorry to be a party pooper but no, pain in birth is really not just about fear. I was trained in hypnobirthing during my first pregnancy, and when contractions started I was so joyous, not stressed and not fearful at all. I remained calmed and happy throughout, moving a lot and receiving all the natural help of a very well-trained staff and a very supportive, calm partner, with music and chanting and water and what not. It was NOT easy. It was NOT pain free. It did NOT progress swiftly. Yes, I did not tear, and I felt great minutes after and the day after was up and about. I consider my birth to be a positive birth story and recommend this method to others. BUT IT WAS NOT EASY, PAIN FREE, or SWIFT as so many hypnobirthing trainers are saying. The truth is that each body is different. We accept this fact when it comes to everything else - diet, health, athletic skills, what not - but somehow we think we can all birth the same. Well, no. The truth is that some women have easier births than others. Some women get stuck at 3 cm (I did). Some women have very powerful contractions for hours and hours and hours without any progress in dialation (I did). Some women just have a harder or easier time than others. You can't know before you birth how it will go down. You can prepare and that's great, but every body is different. I know mothers who were very scared and birthed naturally after an hour of contractions. I know others who had an amazingly positive birth with epidural. IT IS NOT ALL UP TO US AND NOT ALL OF US CAN HAVE THE EXPERIENCE SHE IS DESCRIBING, is the buttom line.

My mom tried hypnobirthing. At first it was great. Really working. She had actually stopped feeling contractions. She was in her labor room. Sh was there for a while, she doesn’t know how long because she was so relaxed she may have even fallen asleep. She continued hypnobirthing and then the nurses interrupted her to bring her to the delivery. While they were moving her she tried to continue the hypnobirthing but it didn’t end up working, the lights were then too bright and she was in a bad position, etc. She couldn’t get back into that state and then the rest of her labor was very painful and she decided to get an epidural. 😞 She tried again with my next sibling and almost the same thing happened except it wasn’t as effective this time. She couldn’t get into that completely relaxed state of mind and just decided to get an epidural.

In HypnoBirthing (Mongan Method), we teach a breath called Birth Breathing so we work with our body and breath downwards to help baby along but not the typical forced pushing we often see in the movies. Most importantly, if you wait for your body's natural explusive reflex, it would be effortless.
