Great guy! We were classmates in primary school, he was academically brilliant but he lived and breathed football. During our short lunch break Sunday would come back to class drenched in sweat! Can you imagine sitting close to someone like that in class😆 I was always mad at him, but we were kids🤦🏾‍♀️ we didn’t know any better. Proud of you! You made it🙌🏾🙌🏾

Only when lions have historians will the hunters seize to be heroes. Sunday oliseh said it all to athletes and non athletes. He brought joy to my late parents in his playing days especially during his super Eagles days. He didn't talk much about his education, he is highly educated and he continues to influence his generation outside the pitch. God bless you.

For me Oliseh is hands down Nigeria's best player. technicality, leadership, shooting, tackling, positional accumen, football IQ, important Assists and important goals. he played for very big clubs. as you said, he helped Nigeria win Tunisia 94' with all those assists. if he wasn't there, I'm not sure what would have happened. he was the only one who held that midfield. we had Ugbade as his back up in 94' but Sunday was something else even from a young age.

Oliseh is not a spectacular orator just like me, but he simply passed useful and important messages to active athletes mostly footballers but I must say this, Oliseh's speech is relevant to everyone of us mostly those living overseas, let's emulate him by teaching people back home how to fish. Believe me, many people will hate u if u do this but this is the only way u can make them useful even at your absence. By the time we all put this into practice with our small family and friends, criminals& lazy guys who run back home will not be throwing #1000 bills at them during political rally. My people in Naija should always co-operate with people that are trying to help thier destinies, some of these guys work day and night to raise money for you(3/4 jobs with presure of meeting up with bills). corrupt and lazy criminals(Politicians) who run back home only see people as starved Dogs that have enormous value for dry bones.

@@immertoll1 I am not the only Igbo man with sense. There are millions of us. The problem we have in Nigeria is too much tribalism; thats why Nigeria can never progress in all sectors. Any day we stop tribalism, be you Igbo, Yoruba, Hausa, Efik, Edo etc. Trust me that would be the day Nigeria will be liberate- And then we can join hands together and kick this animals called elites or policticans out of power and send them to exiles.

This is a great guy, much loved by Nigerians. I was only 8 years old watching him represent Nigeria and I can tell you that he's somebody I have always admired. Every single point made by Sunday are valid and with utmost respect, I see him as a genius in his world, he puts God first in all that he did and still does, he also ended his oratory on TEDx with God. No wonder he's an upright celeb. I'm glad to be African, Nigerian to be specific, and indeed of a truth, we are in numbers as a race and can succeed if we only choose to. I'm currently living in the western world, a continent where most people get carried away by the love of money, I as a person like our darling Sunday Oliseh, choose to educate myself, aspiring for the top in my studies until I'm satisfied. Let us represent our nation Nigeria wherever we go as good ambassadors. God bless you all, God bless Sunday Oliseh, God bless Nigeria.

George AOP I don’t really give a damn whether Sunday Oliseh accepts that he is Igbo or not. The point was that nobody asked him about his ethnic origin, he quickly jumped into a well rehearsed notion. George AOP and others who hide their identities online the great Igbo nation is not short of quality human resources. We don’t need that excess baggage of patch patch Igbo. There are far more skilful and better organised Igbo footballers and football managers than Sunday Oliseh. He will definitely not add value to my life nor to millions of other Igbo. 'My name is actually Sunday Ogochukwu Oliseh. And if you are Igbo, I am sorry I not Igbo hehehehehe...I actually come from a little village that is called Abavo in Delta State but I grew up in Lagos....." Well, I am not sure I understand this dude! He confuses a lot of us who know Nigeria and grew up in Nigeria. How a man who bears the names "Ogochukwu" and "Oliseh" and whose mom in Lagos is an active member of the Igbo social organization known as "Ohaneze Ndi Igbo" in Lagos would say before the world that he is not Igbo is something that baffles me. He did not even have to have added the clause "...And if you are Igbo, I am sorry I am not Igbo hehehehehe..." to his introductory statement. His speech would still have been complete without that clause. And this is why Oliseh baffles me. I fear a Yoruba man who does everything to deny his Yorubaness or a Bini or Hausa man who goes out of his way to deny his Edo or Hausa roots. I avoid such a person like a plague. Socrates once advised all men to begin by knowing themselves first. Oliseh failed that test and that is why despite his many achievements on the soccer pitch, I wonder at the kind of person he is.

Education is what the lot of haters need. Ill information as it stands breeds needless hatred sometimes. That the Chinese can pick up 40 percent plus or minus of what the Japanese or Korean speaks and bear similar names most times does not make a Japanese a Chinese. You have the Esans, the Oras and their neighbours with dialectic similarities and distinctions. You have the Yorubas and Itsekiris. Ethnicity is about divergencies in history, lineage, migrations, heritage, politics , culture, cross culture, cross lineage and cross affiliations and distinct dialetic or linguistic forms formed over centuries to millennia. Thus an Efik is an Efik and not an Ibibio. You dont meet an Itsoko man or woman and insist he or she must be referred to as an Urhobo. It is an insult and an assault to his unique heritage. No one has the license to dictate any persons heritage or identity. It is highly narcissist and the act itself uncivilized. In clearer terms only a narcissistic Chinese will call a Japanese or korean a Chinese. They are appropriately referred in reference to accredited precepts as relatives. In such terms the Esan is a relative of the Ora, the Yoruba a relative of the Itsekiri, the scot a relative of the Irish and the Anglo(english), the Igbo is a relative of the Anioma, the Anioma himself a relative of the Igbanke and the matter is as simple as that. Just as this gentleman has put it. Capisce!

If people must be able to trace me to my home land, i must introduce myself as a Nigerian from Ika-south LGA, Abavo, Delta-state, south-southern part of Nigeria and not as Imo, Ebonyi, Enugu, Anambra or Abia state, south-eastern part of Nigeria. Sunday Olise has not done by identifying with his people. Igbos please you people should leave us alone. Please people should tell Sunday Oliseh, that he should be a proud Igbo man, because the third world War of 1960s between the Biafra vs Nigeria, Britain, Russian, Jordan etc has gone. There are no more Killings, secret elimination & disappearance of Igbos by Nigerian security forces now in the part of Delta state that was formerly in Biafran region. I meant the war that many people wrongfully called the Nigerian civil war is over. It was not a Nigerian civil war, but the 3rd world War. The war was between Biafra and 7 countries. So it can be called the 3rd world War. However, during and after the war many Igbos that lived in the place currently called Delta state were under massive attack and extinction by Nigerian security forces. There was ethnic cleansing of Igbos and anyone that was of Igbo origin in Delta state ( was a former Biafran region). This however forced many Igbos in the region to deny and denounce their Igbo blood lineage in order to be safe in the hostile environment they found themselves. Even though many Igbos denounced their Igbo origin and lineage, some of the Igbos that survived the ethnic cleansing, retained their Igbos names, while some of them got their names adulterated. This true story sadly happened in Delta state and Rivers state, but many parents of Igbos descent in Delta and Rivers refused to tell their children their true stories and how they survived the 3rd world War or the Nigerian civil war as it is still called.

Jah ka, Igbos are not the only tribe in Nigeria for God sake bruv. There are 3 major tribes and others in Nigeria but Igbo tribe has remained the only tribe that has been a pain on the neck of Nigeria as a nation since i was child. I am now 31years of age and still the same people. C'mon man, i picked up Nigeria history book to see what the problem is but found out that Igbos have immensely contributed to where Nigeria state is today. I heard Igbos' marginalisation rhetoric since i was 6yrs old but only to find out that Igbos have enjoyed central government than any other tribe in the south. Pls, pick a good history book and read with an open mind so as to see where Igbos have got it wrong and still getting wrong, not as myopic igbo guy. Igbos always pick on reactions of others instead of their actions. They attack you but you attack them back, victim mentality comes to play. They will pick on your reaction instead of their own repulsive actions. He said He is not an Igbo man, respect that and move on. Desmond Elliot chose to denie his Yoruba identity throughout his career in movies industry but when it was time for him to show his true identity,........ Today, the same Yorubas accepted him as their own...

+Tokunbo Folarin I think u are right in some points u made like people should not deep too long because of what he said about who he is even if he offends people with it. He is a human. Thanks for explaining more. My father lost his 2 developed properties in Port Harcourt after the war because the federal Government systematically allowed others to collect any abandoned Igbo property as punishment. Irrespective of your bank deposit, u can only get less than 20 pounds after the war if u are Igbo. This caused a lot of hardship for Igbos who were all over the country and had an establishment also all over. THis are part the anger of the Igbo's not minding going into details why the war was fought as i do not believe that my fathers generation just jumped into war as war mongers if not the killing of southerners in d north like that could be compared to today's boko haram idiotism. I hate tribalism of all kind because it's against my philosophy and i do believe in united Africa with diverse ethnicity as Africa best solution to for a global financial achievement , recognition and empowerment via the AU. I also think that the anger and agitation for a Biafra land is still based on the suffering, marginalisation of Igbos that never got back their lost position after the war that was fought and lost 45 years ago.. I think it time to move on, tho not that easy to move on without pains and complain when u lost over 1.5 million people in a war that was fought because of today's boko haram equivalent oppression against southerners in d north. The same boko haram still suck the blood of our people in north eastern Nigerian that u begin to ask yourself if u are living in a coutry where girls will be kidnaped and be sold to jihadist in a broad day light or if it is a bad dream u never ever want to dream again. I wish future Igbo geneartion will get out of this genocide thought better because older generation that experienced first degree lost may not be able to sort it out so easy due to the pains involved with first-degree lost of life they experienced which u can sense tru the comment u are reading here..

Let's be reasonable, realistic and practical here my friend, imagine having a friend in your ancestral home but as time passed by, this friend of yours started calling you unprinted names simply cos you were not as educated as he was. How would you react to this situation? Before the pogrom in the North, Yorubas and Igbos were well welcomed into their ministries and communities cos Yorubas and Igbos are well educated and their services were needed. Igbos and Yorubas settled down in the midst of Northerners without issues until Igbos started calling them all sort of names just like what is obtainable in the West today. If you want to know the truth about what Igbos must have done in 50s, prior to pogrom, in the North, please, take a look at their utterances towards other Nigerians in 2015 and that would tell you what really happened then. Igbos started Radio biafra with hate preach against other Nigerians and all Igbos either in diaspora or in Nigeria pretended as if nothing was being said on that Radio but the moment Hausas or Yorubas reciprocate the same measure, Igbos in diaspora and in Nigeria would come out and start screaming genocide. It's a war for God sake, why would expect your enemies to feed you? It amazes me whenever i heard that starvation was used to execute the war. In a war, anything could be used. US nuke Japan when the war was getting out of hand. US/UK/Russia used blockade against Germany in 2nd world war and they have all moved on since then as allies now. Historically, Igbos have been given an avenue to be relevant in political arena of other tribes in Nigeria since independence but Igbos are yet to deem it fit to have another tribe in their state cabinets. Igbos would throw what they will never accept from you in their region at you in your own region. You can imagine the audacity. Who introduced Unitary system of government to Nigeria? Igbos of course despite all pleas from Obas, Emirs and Sultans. Aguyi Ironsi went ahead with his plan to control other regions. However, Northerners got the opportunity and used it; hunter became hunted. Hausa/Fulani hijacked what Igbos brought to Nigeria to their advantage. 1st Republic, Igbos formed the first govt with the Northerners at the expense of other southerners. 2nd Republic was the same story which produced Alex Ekwueme

For the fact that he has Igbo name in his passport, him trying to differentiate himself from that, seems as if he has complex for been Igbo without realizing that his unnecessary distancing from the root of his name makes him look stupid, cowardly, unexposed, lacks self pride, has less self worth.
