I'll speak on his behalf as a homeless person. Police take away everything we own and throw it away because it's illegal to be homeless most places. Social workers just want to get you off the street. They never try to figure out how or why. So we just end up right back outside

I understand that housing for all homeless would help the problem. But I feel that giving it to them for free is a mistake. I have witnessed my entire life that getting something for nothing only sets an individual back. I feel that if we are to give them housing than there needs to be an expectation of payment, just like rent or a house payment that everyone else pays but obviously much less. That being said, payment would not need to be monetary. A monetary payment would be acceptable of course but being homeless this creates a problem obviously. Payment could be unique to the individual situation. For example, an alcoholic would need to stay sober, and attend AA meetings each week along with having a sponsor. Fulfilling this would give them the right to live in the government provided housing. If they don't meet the expectation, then there should be consequences, such as being kicked out. This seems harsh I know, but nobody feels good getting something for free. If there are expectations that are feasible for the individual, I know that homeless people can meet them. I think they would become more fulfilled and have a higher feeling of satisfaction with themselves. I don't know, I'm just trying to figure out a solution in my community, and the free housing thing seems like a patch job fix, not a real solution. To be clear, I'm talking about chronic homelessness. Thoughts are appreciated. Thanks.

If we got rid of the government restriction on building then I think most homeless people could build their own homes, and possible avoid being homeless in the first place. I was basically homeless for a year. So I have a bit of experience with this, Although I know others had it worse than me.

i think too much of wasting money in talking money, and then talking about resolving homlessness , i think homelessness brings shame to all of us

Coordination of benefits is a key. We use it with housing veterans here in Maine. Imagine the power and cost savings in one in need can share information once, to fill applications for multiple resources. They ca carry that information on a memory stick, or have it shared for other agencies
