Humanity: Many desire success. Reality: Not all achieve it. Why? Because of one fundamental element of success: FAILURE. What does that mean to me?
Eduardo Zanatta is a senior studying business finance at BYU. He is an Italian citizen, grew up in Brazil, and served as a missionary in New Jersey. He has worked for The Academy for Creating Enterprise as its international development coordinator for two years and interned at the ACE campus in Mexico City last summer. Zanatta has also completed internships at the UK Parliament, Credit Suisse UK, and Goldman Sachs NY and is now a part-time employee at Innosight, LLC. He recently accepted a full-time offer from Innosight, LLC, in Boston and will be attending the Harvard Business School in 2014.
In the spirit of ideas worth spreading, TEDx is a program of local, self-organized events that bring people together to share a TED-like experience. At a TEDx event, TEDTalks video and live speakers combine to spark deep discussion and connection in a small group. These local, self-organized events are branded TEDx, where x = independently organized TED event. The TED Conference provides general guidance for the TEDx program, but individual TEDx events are self-organized.* (*Subject to certain rules and regulations)

I failed before in my life. I can relate to this. I failed a test once in my Math class in high school. Sometime later, I got better at Math in high school. I went from an F to an A eventually. It's all about the mindset, failure is an opportunity to learn and grow from your mistakes. Not to give up and convince yourself it's just not meant to be. For now on, whenever I fail in life, I see failure as a teachable moment. To improve my quality of life.

@@OneWingedAnion you're talking more about low effort. The point is that the degree of effort can indicate perseverance, which is a key ingredient for success. I've failed more this year than in any other year. It's been hard. I've lost so much but at the same time gained so much and learnt so much about myself. I've been an emotional yo yo. I think failure in the arts is especially painful, as it is such a ‘no guarantee’ vocation already. But the ‘not quitting too early’ idea is really about doing it because you love it, and unless we enjoy the process then we are already setting ourselves up for disappointment.

As a new RN this has been helpful advice. Some days I come in and everything goes right, tasks are done on time and the patients stay the course and remain stable. The next day I come in, my patients could be the polar opposite, nothing I’m doing seems to work or be enough. You feel like maybe you picked the wrong career or specialty.. don’t quit to early. Look at what could have been done better or differently. Lean on your fellow team members.

Now if i want to drive in Switzerland, i will need to take theory exam and all the tests again. How amazing 😅 But i also think it will make me an even better driver in the end. I don’t know if you finally managed to pass the driver test, but I’m actually in the same boat as you. I’ve been driving for well over a year now and failed my first attempt at the driver test. I then went into a spiral of negative thoughts and anxiety. It took me a while to finally clear my head and I’m getting ready for a retest tomorrow morning. I realized the trick is, in order to succeed you have to learn from your mistakes. People failing driving tests is also a lot more common than you might think. There are people who might be older than both of us who are still trying to pass their driving test.

As cheesy as it sounds, the option of failure is dependant upon the circumstances, or in some cases "failure is not an option". If it is for example an academic test or maybe a sporting venture, as painful as it may be, failure is an option. If however you find yourself in a situation where failing would result in death, then you either succeed or you die.

You can never rise up like a Phoenix if you never have fallen!

True, that is why it is also essential to experience failure for you to learn. For you to hone where you're lacking at so when the time comes you'll rise like a Phoenix from the ashes.

all these people came out to say failure is part of success, they do need to explain it bit further and deeper.

If you learn from your mistakes and look for solutions, the only factor that will affect your success is time. I have first hand experience in such a thing. Ive failed my fair share of important tests, deadlines and interviews, but as i caught my mistakes and reevaluated them, i managed to overcome them

What a great video! I agree completely with the saying that failures are a part of our successes. The question you asked on whether your desire to succeed or your fear of failure is greater, was so insightful! Never let the fear of failure get in the way of the potential success you could achieve! Failures are our best teachers in life and help us grow as individuals. I have a video on my channel all about making failures your friend! Great content on here! Can't wait to see more :)
