Dr. Justin Feinstein shares how float therapy can help disconnect the nervous system from life's constant stream of stimulation, and in the process help individuals reconnect to themselves, especially those who suffer from stress and anxiety. Dr. Justin Feinstein is a Clinical Neuropsychologist and Director of the Float Clinic and Research Center at the Laureate Institute for Brain Research. His laboratory investigates the effects of Floatation-REST (Reduced Environmental Stimulation Therapy) on both the body and the brain, while also exploring its potential as a therapeutic treatment for promoting mental health and healing in patients who suffer from anxiety and stress-related disorders. Dr. Feinstein joined the faculty of the Laureate Institute for Brain Research and the Oxley College of Health Sciences at the University of Tulsa in 2013, after completing his Ph.D. at the University of Iowa, and his postdoctoral fellowship at the California Institute of Technology. He earned his undergraduate degree in cognitive neuroscience at the University of California, San Diego, and completed his clinical internship at the San Diego VA hospital with a focus on the treatment of veterans with PTSD. www.clinicalfloatation.com/ This talk was given at a TEDx event using the TED conference format but independently organized by a local community. Dr Feinstein is carrying the torch for float therapy to legitimize this modality! In a world where we are constantly being bombarded with stimulation and notifications we need this disconnect to reset our default mode network and I can tell you personally that floating is THE ANSWER. Thank you Justin Feinstein.

Hello! Thank you for the upload. Currently I'm working on starting a floatation business in Antwerp, Belgium. All advice is welcome. :) Float therapy certainly is one way to detach.

I've done a number of floats and it was really just a bit meh. I didn't get any brain scans or anything afterwards and the next day, just carried on as normal. Peace and serenity...eh? I did it for muscle soreness and it really didn't do much there, either

I dont disconnect in the pod lol. I need the Magnesium Sulfate for inflammation. I text on my smart watch in the pod and watch the time lol. It still helps me relax and helps inflammation of my muscles and joints.

My husband seems to get more stimulated when we do a couples float. He gets a lot more touchy-feely, which drives my anxiety up

I thank the GodForce that I am NOT attach to those devices (iPhones,SmartPhones, Blackberrys). A very interesting lecture btw.

I see a future where floating is combined with other modalities like hot/cold therapy, body work, breathwork, and psychedelic therapies to make a compete package of care that helps to address the whole person. Physically, mentally and spiritually.

As a person who has “just mediated” for a while. This was a complete different experience for me. You really should try it before your knock it.

It's the high concentrations of magnesium ("epsom salt") in the water that produces the calming affect on your mind and vitals. I'm sure floating in the dark in complete silence also helps but it's mainly the magnesium. Mindful mediation WITHOUT the use of external aids is how you train yourself to reduce stress and anxiety using only your mind. Floating in a pool of bath salts is artificial and is no different than taking a supplement to reduce anxiety.

I think he should speak little faster. I was too bored. while he was talking that slow- I could hear another talk at the same time. I understand that he wants to arrest people like me for being too fast for him because of the phone, but I think that he will adapt.

You are able to speed up videos in KZbin. If a talk is slow just go for 1.5x speed. Helps me to focus:)

@@mathew4181 It was my way of being critical on his speech. Not the delivery method. Deaf communicators are often used to fast talking.

The way you say 'it was my way if being critical about his speech, not the delivery method' seems to infere that you are trying to find something to pick holes at. Particularly as your critic was about the slow method of his delivery. Was there something about the content of the speech you didnt like?
