I agree with everything she's said here, but just wanted to point something out. Men don't necessarily have a shorter life span due to mental health/substance related issues. Evolution has rendered women with stronger immune systems than men, a necessary adaptation for women to survive childbirth. But other than that, this was a great lecture ! Inspired to see a women in such a high position educate the rest of the world :)

A great lecture? She forgot to mention one "small bit" of information: the reason why the are very few women CEOs and a minority of board members executives is that not enough women apply for these positions. You couldn't get to parity at that level without appointing totally incompetent women. If you have 100 positions to fill and you have 100 men and 50 women applying, to ensure parity, you have to hire half of the men and all the women. Unless you think that the least qualified woman out of the 50 is more qualified that the 51st man (the one just missing out), then you are hiring less competent people solely based on their gender. That's the definition of sexism.

@@BlunderCity think about why there might be less women applying though. There are not enough women promoted into higher levels in general to even have the experience needed to be CEOs, it starts at lower level management, and actually it starts at home with how you educate boys to think about girls and how you educate girls to think about themselves and what they are capable of. Representation matters.

Well said! l am inspired. We need to live in an environment where we are free to talk about sensitive topics like sexism. We should be able to stop it whenever we feel that there is an act of sexism in place.

I don’t think she holds the responsibility of representing an entire half of the population if she feels it will limit her growth. She should be able to do what she wants. Regardless, she ended up teaching thousands of people about gender biases BECAUSE she left. I think that’s better than staying and being a role model to a few.

Notice how many times she says "I was given...". Not "I earned" or "I was the best person for ...". In the name of gender equity women are given, not earn roles. Perhaps she should try getting a role at that bank started by women, you know the one that doesn't exist!
