Very interesting presentation. Really enjoyed the way you combined your life experiences with the criminal justice system to bring forth the awareness of labels in our society.

I really appreciate that! Bringing together personal experience and systemic insight felt like the best way to show how deeply labels impact us all. The more we recognize them, the more power we have to reshape the way we see ourselves and others. Thanks for watching and sharing your thoughts!

Such a powerful message! We are all so much more than the boxes we are put in and all it takes is some awareness to truly evolve and connect. Thank you!

Thank you! Awareness is the first step toward breaking free from those boxes and embracing true connection. When we recognize our own depth and complexity, we can start seeing it in others too. Grateful for your support!

What a powerful and impactful perspective. Thank you for sharing, it has me think of my own labels, words… awareness is the beginning of change😊

Thank you! Yes! Awareness! When we start questioning the labels and words we use, both for ourselves and others, we open the door to greater connection and transformation. Grateful that this resonated with you!

As a PVS Board member and a former corrections professional of 26 years, this hit me a couple of different ways. PVS visitors don't judge (or label) those they visit, which has a tremendous impact on the person visited. It allows their relationship to grow and improves the effectiveness of their role as a friend and mentor. It could certainly impact reentry! Thank you Barbara for articulating what labelling (and lack there of) can do. Scott

Thank you, Scott. I truly appreciate your perspective as both a PVS Board member and a seasoned corrections professional. Your insight on how non-judgmental connection fosters growth and impacts reentry is so powerful. Labels don’t just shape how society sees a person; they influence self-perception, opportunities, and rehabilitation. The work PVS does is a testament to the power of seeing beyond labels and recognizing human potential. Grateful for this conversation and for the work you do!

Your exploration of how labels influence not only perceptions but also actions, was thought provoking. It’s fascinating to see how this concept extends beyond the justice system to many other aspects of society, where labels can define one’s role, opportunities, and interactions. Your talk serves as an important reminder of the need to reconsider the power of these labels and seek more holistic individualized understandings of people.

Thank you so much! I really appreciate your thoughtful reflection. Exactly, the more I explored this topic, the more I realized how deeply labels shape not just the justice system, but nearly every aspect of society, defining who ‘belongs,’ who gets opportunities, and even how we see ourselves. It’s one of the biggest hidden divides we don’t always question.

Some interesting points Please sort out the video quality though, it's distracting from the presenter. Differing camera qualities, differing audio quality, weird cuts between them, and a strangely high frequency of cuts. It's a bit rubbish and the speaker deserves better.

Says a lot about the Western society that one has to be a professional justice system participant and have a life threatening situation to get enlightened.

Thank you! I definitely see your point. For me, the transplant and prison visitations provided a relatable platform to speak about what I had long explored with my holistic teacher (ancient wisdom, interconnection, and holistic balance). At the same time, as you pointed out, it’s telling that so many of us only encounter these perspectives through hardship or extreme circumstances. The challenges I faced within the system pushed me to seek help, but it raises the questionm how different would things be if ideas like interconnection and holistic balance were introduced to us earlier, in everyday life?

I have a solution; however, I will start off by sharing a PART of it. Everyone should read the Statutes at Large Volume I, Fifth Congress, Session Two, Chapters 49 & 50. It is evident that there are not supposed to be any debtor prisons in this country. What’s a charge? It’s a tax. What’s a tax? It’s a debt. What’s a debt? It’s a bond. What’s a bond? Its insurance.

Thank you. The historical legal framework around debtor’s prisons, taxation, and financial obligations highlights just how deeply embedded these systems are. For me, instead of trying to fix broken models, the real question is: What new systems can we create that make these old structures irrelevant?
@BusinezzBossTheBootleggerz8 күн бұрын
@DisruptingGracefully There’s a difference between legal and lawful. There’s more going on with the debtor prisons than meets the eye; in the background it’s all about bonds. Additionally, we are not debtors, we are creditors - they deceived us into thinking we are debtors. Taxation is theft. We the people owe no taxes. You volunteer to be a taxpayer when you sign up for the social security number. The power to tax is the power to destroy; that’s what they’re doing - causing destruction by way of taxation. Our financial obligations are fraudulent and are the result of a lack of knowledge when we contract with these sub charterers. We do not necessarily need to create a new system, we need to exercise our right to tax and make them pay their rent, we need to hold them liable for THEIR tax liability, we need to stop volunteering ourselves and our offspring into the system of HER, operate unincorporated and operate under the REAL law - CHRIST cast in iron. Let’s start with that.

Thank you! It’s so easy to let labels create division, but when we take a step back, we remember how deeply connected we all are. I appreciate your kind words and the opportunity to spark these important conversations.
