Why is is Science vs GOD? Science and GOD are not separate, science is just the proof of all that GOD has done, science itself has never told you, GOD isn't real, a SCIENTIST has, the reason the 'Big Bang' and theories along those lines even exists (which all contradict scientific laws, Law of Conservation of Mass, First law of Thermodynamics, etc) is because of doubt of HUMANS. And speaking on that fact, why would you even want to doubt GOD? If you know the gospel (which translates over to 'good news') of JESUS, you would know that JESUS died FOR YOU, and because of that death, WE HAVE THE REWARD of HEAVEN, why would someone even want to reject that, please humble yourselves, to trust in JESUSS as your LORD and SAVIOR, JESUS loves you so much that, even though many of you say these type of things and actually believe them, HE STILL DIED FOR YOU Romans 5:8 // But GOD demonstrates his own love for us in this While we were still sinners CHRIST died for us. You can spend your whole life trying to disprove GOD but where does that get you? I want you to all think about this, say I was wrong, and you were right, I wasted my whole life trusting in GOD, (and even then it is not a waste because I have grown so much in my relationship in GOD, freeing me from many things I though I would never get out of.) But let's look at this from the opposite situation, say that you were wrong, not only did you waste your whole life being an unbeliever, you wasted your ETERNITY after it, GOD BLESS. GOD is waiting to greet you with open arms, no matter how far you feel. Even one of HIS followers was a man who persecuted and killed followers of CHRIST, Saul (now named Paul) made a 180 turn and accepted CHRIST and even suffered and DIED for CHRIST. Sin is a wicked thing, that leads many to believe these lies, but once you can humble yourselves enough to talk to GOD, even just asking HIM question, and TRULY coming to HIM with a open heart and a listening ear, GOD will make HIMSELF present in your life, maybe HE already has, but many of you have ignored HIM, JESUS is knocking, but HE won't force the door open, JESUS loves you so much that HE wants you to make the decision wether you'll love HIM back, HE won't ever force you to love HIM, because HE knows true love is out of free will. Our consciousness, and conscience is the very proof of a good GOD, evidence is all around you, when will you open your heart to see? GOD BLESS, GOD LOVES YOU, HE is waiting for you to let HIM into your life. :)

I’m not a scientist or have the ability to articulate the scientific methods as such, however, I’ve always felt and believed that both science and Religion or God or the creator etc... are like two rivers flowing side by side. Each has explanations to what the other can’t explain, and towards the ends of the rivers’ flow, they both merge in a sea of knowledge.
@chaosd5239
@chaosd5239 5 жыл бұрын
I always imagined it more like there is one long giant river which is science. Along that river it occasionally breaks into small streams or creeks that run away from the one main river. The small streams usually don't go very far before they end but the river always makes it all the way to the ocean. The small streams and creeks are religions, gods, myths, failed hypothesis and theories etc.

Can't people just enjoy an amazing talk presented by a scientist who believes in God? Internet arguments are never productive because there is no face attached to the words. Look at some of these comments. If you were having a face to face conversation, would such things be said? My one and only complaint is that while this TEDx channel did a good job posting his scientific credentials, it ignored the fact he is also a staff worker for a faith based org on campus.

there is good reason for the frustration. Firstly, if you are an American, you live in a scientifically illiterate country. So it is frustrating as a scientist to see a video that would further drive the ignorance. A scientist doesn't presuppose anything unless there is valid reason. Secondly, this is a TED talk. That is disgusting. A TED talk, ideas worth spreading. No. What he does is use a rudimentary understanding of the concepts to disguise a presupposition. Not science. Then to have the gall to bring up quotes by Newton, a genius in his own time who undoubtedly would disagree with the God Hypothesis were he alive today, to begin his rambling, in an attempt to justify his pseudoscience.

Plenty of science minded folks believe in God and plenty dont...honestly its really more of a choice then anything since any actual proof of God would be rather outside the bounds of science by definition....its not really a problem of the physical sciences since we can know all about the physical laws and it would tell us nothing about theology or "spiritual matters' (if such a realm existed its would be as untouchable by physics as 3d geometry is by 2d geometry or like trying to use newtonian physics inside a black hole....it simply isnt compatible ....... that said it just kinda bugs me to see you speak for Newton who, while he was rather a jackass as a person was a very very smart dude and should be left the dignity of not having people put words into his mouth

Actually, Newton was known to be a devotedly Christian scientist - he put off the publication of Principia 7 years because he felt that it revealed the mind of God. He was believed to have died a virgin! The vast majority of scientists prior to the 19th century were theists (inclused deists). Even the history of Western higher education denotes that the sciences were originally an 'out - growth' of philosophy, which itself was strongly related to theology - PhD = doctorate of philosophy.

More Einstein quotes to give more context: ""It seems to me that the idea of a personal God is an anthropological concept which I cannot take seriously." ""The idea of a personal God is quite alien to me and seems even naïve."" "The word God is for me nothing more than the expression and product of human weaknesses, the Bible a collection of honourable, but still primitive legends. " "I cannot conceive of a God who rewards and punishes his creatures, or has a will of the type of which we are conscious in ourselves. An individual who should survive his physical death is also beyond my comprehension, nor do I wish it otherwise; such notions are for the fears or absurd egoism of feeble souls." In response to an article describing Einstein as being traditionally religious: "It was, of course, a lie what you read about my religious convictions, a lie which is being systematically repeated. I do not believe in a personal God and I have never denied this but have expressed it clearly. If something is in me which can be called religious then it is the unbounded admiration for the structure of the world so far as our science can reveal it." Source:wiki

Matt M Here is a quote from Max Planck, introduced Quantum Physics: "All matter arises and persists only due to a force that causes the atomic particles to vibrate, holding them together in the tiniest of solar systems, the atom. Yet in the whole of the universe there is no force that is either intelligent or eternal, and we must therefore assume that behind this force there is a conscious, intelligent Mind or Spirit. This is the very origin of all matter.” (Planck, as cited in Eggenstein 1984. Only read the Einstein and Charles Darwin quotes and they are all one-sided and ignore quotes like the ones I have already given which are obviously important in understanding Einstein/Darwins true thoughts. One may reasonably conclude that Einstein/Darwin believed in a non-deistic God. For Darwins real thoughts on God, we can read his autobiography, whoch gives the opposite impression to the source you provided. bertie.ccsu.edu/naturesci/Evolution/Unit14DarwinRel/DarwinReligion.html Anyway, thanks for source and ignore ppl like evyn. Some of Our greatest thinkers in science.. who embraced Mysticism..... Pantheism.. and.. or.. Idealism........ were… Kurt Godel, Freeman Dyson, Max Plank, Wolfgang Pauli, David Bohm, Albert Einstein, Werner Heisenberg, Erwin Schroedinger, Isaac Newton, Louis De Broglie, James Jeans, Arthur Eddington, Nikola Tesla, Charles Darwin and Carl Jung…… But.. to answer this question we first need to define what we mean by the word - GOD... The word - GOD - functions as a SYMBOL.. representing.. the underlying Unity.. and.. or.. as a METAPHOR.. representing a personification of a motivating power of a value system that functions in human life and in the universe. The force and energy that supports the world.. a personification of the power or force that seems to regulate the physical universe.. etc All of existence is itself a part of God - God is the sum of ALL natural processes - The Ground of ALL being - Omnipresence (present everywhere), the Supreme or Ultimate reality. The creative and controlling force in the universe - The force regarded as causing and regulating the phenomena of the world by the universal natural laws - God is outside and inside space-time. Not subject to the cycle of birth and death - The Ultimate, the Absolute, Infinite and Eternal. “God is a metaphor for that which transcends all levels of intellectual thought. It's as simple as that.” - Joseph Campbell “A young female student accused Jung of being an atheist. Jung was confused and asked the student where she had gotten that idea. The student paraphrased a quote she had read in which Jung said he didn't believe God existed. Jung smiled and said "Dear girl, rest easy, “When we have a relationship to a particular thing or experience with it - belief/faith ceases to be a factor. The truth is this, I have had the experience of being gripped by something that is stronger than myself, something that people call God. So, I will never say that I believe that God exists. I must say I know God exists!" - Carl Jung - The Undiscovered Self “Science is reticent too when it is a question of the great Unity - the One of Parmenides - of which we all somehow form part, to which we belong. The most popular name for it in our time is God - with a capital ‘G’. “ - "“Quantum physics thus reveals a basic oneness of the universe.” “We living beings all belong to one another, we are all actually members or aspects of a single Being, which we may in western terminology call God, while in the Upanishads it is called Brahman.” - “We know that whenever God is experienced, it is an experience exactly as real as a direct sense impression, as real as one’s own personality. As such He must be missing from the space-time picture. ‘I do not meet with God in space and time’, so says the honest scientific thinker, and for that reason he is reproached by those in whose catechism it is nevertheless stated: ‘God is Spirit’.” - Ewin Schroedinger

(my current answer is "probably not") and raise a lot of new and more interesting ones: Where she/he/it lives? What's made of? etc. And the scientist who make this discovery would be the single most famous in History. Thing is: Science is fact-based. If my Bible and scientific discoveries aren’t exact, then it shows our lack of understanding. Look at how much we have discovered to be true in just the last 150 years. The Bible was written to people who had no concept about those things, nor vocabulary to describe it, so God used language and situations that were familiar to them to communicate with them. There is no reason for science to try and debunk faith, or faith to debunk science. Both are missing the point. They go hand in hand.

Im a christian and just saw the movie Lucy last night. This presentation kind of reminds me of that movie although I would say that the conclusions of this video and Lucy were different in the sense that Lucy ended with the idea that we as humans could basically become God through further understanding or knowledge (through modern science) while throughout the movie continually attributing all of the universe to "natural" causes and thereby leaving no opportunity for God to be part of the picture while Bryan Enderle leaves the possibility wide open based on the same modern science or understanding. Obviously, I agree more with Bryan's conclusions that God exists and completes the total picture of existence. I believe in contrast to the movie Lucy that the more we understand about the universe the closer it will draw us to God. The biggest difference however is that we learn about the universe through experimentation and the scientific method but we learn about God through relationship. God can not be put in a test tube but He can be known through relationship. This has been my experience. ‘Call to Me, and I will answer you, and show you great and mighty things, which you do not know.’ Jeremiah 33:3

Yet, you have an issue with an ever present God.

@@NaokiWatanabe I feel bad for people like you that cannot understand a conceptual argument. How dense can you be? I don't know if it's idiocy or a sheer arrogance but I'll let you figure that out for yourself. Paracetamol was an "example". Something that humans synthesise easily today would be something way easier for God to synthesise at any point in history because He created it. You're telling me that a God living among men cannot synthesise C8H9NO2 because He had advance knowledge of the tech? A God among men cannot agitate the water molecules that are bound through a universal link so He can walk on it?. Literally? If a dubmbass like you travelled back in time with a phone, you would be worshipped and though of as a God even. It is a conceptual argument. Obviously you're nowhere close to a God. So imagine the power that a God (who is timeless) will have by sheer knowledge and power. Also, you used a key term "all known Physics". Exactly. Do you know that scientists are questioning the CMB that they relied on for so many generations to predict the Big Bang? Sorry I missed that Avengers movie. "If a dubmbass like you travelled back in time with a phone, you would be worshipped and though of as a God even." Doubtful. Our ancestors were not morons and would would most likely see me as a human who had some sort of a really different looking tool, or maybe jewelry, and would want to know how it was made. I can say this with relative certainty because in a way we've tested the theory. We have plenty of cases where uncontacted or isolated tribes have been introduced to comparatively advanced technology. Turns out they don't bow down and worship the holder as a god like they do in 50s movies. They tend to examine our objects with interest. "Obviously you're nowhere close to a God." Depends who you ask but I concede that point. "So imagine the power that a God (who is timeless) will have by sheer knowledge and power" Ok, so like a Time Lord or Doctor Manhattan sort of chap. No believer would ever agree with the atheist definition of God, not one. All atheists and most theists misidentify God as the obsolete error filled ignoramus in ungodly books like the bible or koran. The Godliest messengers of the most probable truth - the natural sciences, reason and logic have successfully identified the genuine 100% all natural God as the big bang creator & law of nature ruler of the universe composed of the laws of nature integrated with forces of physics, and that is a verifiable fact.

Some food for thought, the Big bang was the beginning of the universe, since the universe has a beginning some force put it into motion. I could not make my self, my beginning came from an external force, aka my parents. Nothing can create itself, some force always put it into motion. So since we know this, whatever caused the big bang cannot be the universe itself, something else would have caused the big bang. Now here's the really interesting part, since whatever put the universe in motion cannot be the universe itself, that means the external cause of the universe, would not be bound by the universe's laws of time physics etc, because it exists OUTSIDE of the universe. Now it all comes down to whether you believe that this external factor that put things into motion is sentient or not, but i think its food for thought because if there is a "God" I believe this is a reasonable explanation for how he exists. This would also be an answer to the question "well who made god" it would be nobody because everything we understand about creating, destroying, time etc only exists here, inside this universe. What is outside the universe, does not follow the universe's laws, it would be literally beyond it.

This argument assumes that God was the one who started the universe. Also, given that the vast majority of things (like thunder and supernovas) come from natural causes, the possibility of the Universe occurring from a natural cause is overwhelming.

For example, the stars that light up our night sky, are created out of dust clouds; gravity pulls all of the particles in these dust clouds together until there is enough pressure in the center that atoms fuse together. The masses of the individual particles is more than the combined weight after fusion meaning that some of the mass is converted into energy according to Einstein's famous E=mC^2 equation; we see this effect as heat and light. Theoretically this tells us that all that we need to be able to do to create a star is to organize a large enough dust cloud… Gravity does the rest. Actually it tells us that all we have to do to create a star is add the last dust particle that is needed to start fusion, to an already existing dust cloud… But why stop there? Since we understand that everything evolves according to physical laws, and we understand these laws using mathematics, is there anything that we cannot create using them? If I observe a rock falling from the sky at time t1, i can apply the gravitational laws to determine the position of the rock at a previous or later time t2. A much more complex system that uses the same laws as the falling rock, is the universe. We can “simply” look at the state (position, velocity, etc.) of all of the mass energy in the entire universe, apply the physical laws to all of the “small pieces” to extrapolate where they would have been at a previous point in time, and we are done! Therefore, to create the universe as we see today, we simply extrapolate to see where everything would have been at some point in the past, put all of the mass-energy in that spot with the same velocity etc., hit go, and the entire universe would naturally evolve according to our laws, into what we see today. Pretty cool huh? Suppose that rather than everything being subject to a particular set of laws, what if we could determine what the laws that everything follows would actually be. We could make it so that everything would repel rather than attract due to gravity, or any other weird law that we can think of. We would be able to create a universe that appears to have evolved naturally, by using physical laws to create it rather than say a hammer and nails… Just as observing the falling rock doesn’t tell us anything about who or what is responsible for gravity, using science to observe the effects of the laws on the universe doesn’t either. In other words, the premise that “things evolve according to the laws” doesn’t imply that “the laws are natural or unnatural,” as such a conclusion would be an assumption based on nothing. The evolution of the body is another process that can be controlled by specific physical laws. The next topic is Free Will. If all of the materials that make up our universe behave in a deterministic way, how can something freely choose to do or not do something? Can the ball choose to not fall when dropped? How is it possible that you can freely choose to sleep in, or to get up early and get to work? What is interesting about the scientific definition of life is that we can currently construct robotics that satisfy it in a crude sense. I.e. we can construct a robot that manufactures replicas of itself, and therefore “reproduces.” We can create robotics that adapt using algorithms (also known as artificial intelligence). Etc. etc. However, no matter how complex or sophisticated a robot is built, all it can ever do is follow the requirements of the program (law) that operate it (no consciousness or free will). To explain this, let’s mentally construct an infinitely complex robot to show that it never obtains these properties: We start with a robot that consists of 4 wheels, and a motor. Suppose that we want this robot to move when it “sees” sunlight. All we do is put a solar panel on it connected to the motor (call this s1 for system 1). When the suns light hits it, the car moves (no thought or free will, just natural reaction from a solar panel). Suppose that we want the robot to stop when there is an object in front of it (s2). All we do is put a speaker that projects sound in the forward direction; only when the robot is in front of an object do the sound waves bounce back off of it hitting a switch on the robot that in essence shuts the motor off. Again, no thought or free will required. As we improve our robot so that it is able to do more and more things, and react to more and more stimuli (such as light), all we are doing is adding unconscious processes/systems “s” to it that react in natural but unconscious ways. A robot with infinite systems “s” (infinite complexity) would be able to react to an infinite number of stimuli but would never be able to choose to do so… It simply unconsciously reacts. We can create robots that respond to questions in a very human-like way, but this is done using algorithms that the robot is required to follow (again, no free will or consciousness). We see from the above example, that at no point do robotics achieve free will or consciousness no matter how human-like we make them. Why is it that we are conscious, and seem to exhibit the properties of free will if we are subject to the same laws? Why are we conscious and aware? The only two answers that our laws allow for is that we either do not actually have the ability to choose (no free will just like the rock) and therefore we are being tricked into thinking that we have free will, or there is a part of us that is not subject to the laws and we actually have the ability to freely choose… While this concept raises other questions, such as where did this creator come from, they can all be answered within the confines of science.

Really nice presentation. I liked the example at the end with the boiling water and tea. I absolutely agree that God would be an illusion if science did not support God's existence and interaction in our world.
