@@iantaakalla8180 concentrated energy has to be dispersed. Concentrated electrical power plants are owned and make big money for the owners. When no fossil fueled power generation plants AND 100% electric world then 5 times more electric energy is needed. That is the failure of centralised concentrated electrical power supply. 40,000klm of grid for every million people today becomes 200,000kml. Capacity of the grid has to be that much bigger. The lie in big nuclear business is the absolute size increase. They want you to look at today's world and dream of a shining little new small reactor. That is the BS, that is the insult, as they know the truth. Electric vehicles big batteries and roof top solar and the existing grid is perfect and the auto industry knows it. The auto industry knows it, they will be the power industry. Elon Musk knows where the money is. He is racing to beat all the other manufacturers, and dominate. He knows that UNLOADING the grid of centralised power generation will save the grid from breaking. Battery technologies are advancing rapidly. EV battery fully topped up daily ready for the long drive at the end of the year.

One uncommon solar technology not frequently mentioned is modifying chlorophyll to absorb more wavelengths of light (Engineering Improved Photosynthesis). If plants are able to be engineered for more efficiency, simply growing food and feedstocks may sequester much more carbon than plants currently do. In this way, we can feed the world and convert biomass into carbon neutral energy at the same time. This may also speed up the growing process such that more crops can be grown in the same season with less water. Improving upon nature is a big task, but has the potentially for big rewards. Conventional solar panels don't repair themselves the way plants do, or produce seeds to make new solar panels. Nature is a gift.

This concept is fascinating and should definitely be explored providing caution is also used. Messing with mother nature can be tricky. Such as were GMOs really a good idea? And the overuse of fertilizers and pesticides have had serious ramifications. If it seems too good to be true....... could we be missing the big picture.?

How often do these products need to be replaced? Cost? Toxicity? I'm very happy that the technology is improving. We do need to have a reasonable plan for the implementation of solar power (and storage) and not be shutting down oil and gas pipelines prematurely...

If you can cheaply print lightweight solar panels tracking the sun isn't as important. You need that more for high efficiency expensive panels where you might also use a solar concentrator mirror setup.

We should develop smaller wind turbines for use of individual homes and businesses. We need systems that we don't need to hook up to the grid. With wind, solar, and Hydrogen, and battery storage, we should have all the green renewable energy we want. But the grid cost too much money to maintain. The system is designed for one power plant to deliver power, and charge people by the watt. If we had other systems that were available for us to purchase, that allows for us to buy the equipment with financing, then we could use all the power we want with no extra charge.

Yes - from what I have seen, the wind turbines that are a double helix shape seem to be the most efficient (probably lobbyists in Washington DC got the government to buy the huge General Electric bird killer wind turbines). Additionally, the Helix shaped turbines can be mounted vertically or horizontally which makes them ideal for mounting on office buildings as they also do not vibrate or make much noise - all around a better product!

We should advance in water solar panels and law them on the ocean. The land is a lot more valuable and is still increasing in value everyday with the increasing population in many countries. The other 70% is useless anyway.

Those were a great new ideas in fact, but please I would like to know if there's a way to store that energy for night without using a battery , I mean if there's a new technology of solar cells yet, witch can store energy itself. Well actually I'm still learning English language by watching some videos on KZbin , and hopefully there's no mistakes in my words above , and you've got my idea. Thank you so much , and have a great time everyone

It was overcast, and yet there was still light coming through. Even so, there are these things called batteries that store electricity. I'm surprised you've never heard of them. I would however like to know where you've been living for the past century plus that you've never even heard of batteries. Would be a great place to get away from the daily bustle.

@@aylbdrmadison1051 If our battery technology was good enough to store 3 weeks worth of power for an entire province then we wouldn't really give a damn about fossil fuels and i would be able to travel across the country on a single battery charge for my Tesla. Yes light would come through but it wouldn't' be nearly as good. For areas like that you could easily find other things like damns, wind power, and mix it with Solar. Solar isn't the ONLY answer but in a lot of places it could be. We do need to make drastic strides in our battery and energy storing technology as well.

Scientists don't appear to be considering the impact on the Earth's climate from the increased implementation of solar panels themselves. Solar panels intercept and change the way the Sun's energy is absorbed and reflected, affecting how much energy is naturally retained in the Earth's atmosphere. If we cover a significant percentage of the Earth's surface with solar panels, will this significantly reduce the amount of energy that is naturally retained in the Earth's atmosphere? Will this lead to an over-looked and therefore unexpected cause of climate change? As the human population increases and/or becomes more affluent, there will be significant increases in the demand for energy, and the growing need for more and more solar panels. Surely Science needs to urgently do more research on how significant increases in the implementation of solar panels may have a negative impact on the Earth's climate.

How are solar panels any different than the way we've built skyscrapers? I've never heard of this phenomenon being a serious enough issue for skyscrapers, but now it's a major concern for solar panels? Oh give me a break, not to sound conspiratorial, but it kinda sounds like something Big Oil came up with. While I'm glad we're trying to improve solar technology, we don't need to rely on bad faith arguments to justify these kinds of innovations. It reminds me of similar arguments made about electric vehicles being bad for the environment bc of lithium waste, yet environmental waste isn't a concern for these detractors when considering fuel-dependent vehicles contribution to landfills. It seems vilifying electric or solar energy are often reduced to arguments of convenience & inconsistency -- often motivated by personal agendas or bias (fyi I'm not specifically implying you are). Btw the time it'll take to improve solar cell technology will be at least a decade, so for now solar panels are still incredibly valuable and shouldn't be demonized. Also we don't need to cover the whole surface of the Earth with solar farms btw. A little over 335km2 or 1.2% of an extremely sunny desert like the Sahara could be enough to power the entire world. I'll see you at the next "Ban Skyscrapers" meeting tho.

Well, if it's any good, it will succeed in the free market system. There was an old saying. If you build a better mouse trap the world will beat a path to your door.
@aylbdrmadison1051
@aylbdrmadison1051 2 жыл бұрын
The "free market" is a misnomer that only leads to more greed and more myopic thinking. The "free market" is actually nothing more than the freedom of the few to oppress the multitudes of people and destroy nature. All for the profit, power, and even entertainment of the few. You are promoting people like bezos and musk growing ever richer at the expense of humanity as a whole. Thus you are supporting the end of your species.
