She is fascinating in her conflation of consultants and uber drivers and utter lack of criticism of the nature of this.

The reason gig workers are agile and flexible is because it is a matter of life and death for them. They’re one lost “gig” away from losing their homes or not being able to provide care for a sick child. This is advice for those who work in management levels at dying corporations to find work at other, more “innovative” corporations, the businesses that make all their money finding more and more efficient ways to leverage human capital into quick profits, then transfer that risk to the public through an IPO, and inevitably crash and burn, keeping the profits for themselves and leaving all their workers in the cold. Yes, be flexible, because it’s only a matter of time before they’ll find a way to completely eliminate mid-level positions, and you’ll be just another gig serf, right along with all the rest of us.

I'm 21, and my dad instilled a love of this kind of content in me, and maybe THE biggest thing I'm building my young budding career life around is the trades. Industries like construction, home damage repair, plumbing, electric, etc, are ALWAYS relevant, because people always need someplace to live, and that place always needs repairs. You can much more easily work for small and local businesses, make great wages, have a skill set you can take anywhere, AND lift the finger to being a cog in the working of those massive corporations listed in the video. I just WISH more young people, especially the ones going to college, would grasp that opportunity instead of aiming for those top 500 companies.

VERY well-said!!! I would ONLY add that there is a creeping into "real" industries from facebook/Angi's List/google etc that has gotten crazy the past ~1/2 decade and what I mean specifically is that, now, people effectively use facebook/google(maps) etc as their "phonebook&review system" for selecting their roofer/builder/plumber/etc and in past years I've been astounded at how much more time, money & effort people(owners&managers) are putting into these online vehicles to "advertise", it truly has changed from "relying on genuine quality and word-of-mouth" to being able to *buy* that via Angie's/Facebook/etc :( Sadly MOST consumers have no idea how important your payments to these companies are (ie that your listing will effectively be buried if you aren't paying) Obviously a massive disservice to both the professionals and the clients in most "regular trades".

This is a strong argument for Universal Healthcare, limited UBI and education (and continuing education) investments for a transitioning society in a 21st century economy. We will need to be flexible to mitigate the shock of advancement.

@@ThisHandleIsNotAvailable. My sickness is having a natural disgust for dysgenics. Healthcare or housing is not a right, you must compete for it. In the natural world, not every organism can survive. If we did that, we'd end up having a ridiculous population explosion- mostly of low IQ people. Now THAT'S sick.

@@nationalistfanatic6291 I can say with *100% certainty* that you have accomplished NOTHING on your own. Nothing. Modern men with machine hearts are handed everything and exploit those that were not handed the same. Sociopaths with overblown self importance and an inflated sense of accomplishment operating conspicuously in front of nepotism. 60% of the wealth in the United States is inherited. Many people of average to low intelligence who are the recipients of said nepotism can't comprehend these simple things.

A very good presentation & very true information. I am a dinosaur at 55 years old, an electronics engineer who has worked some good, highly technical & interesting jobs in the past. Then I took a job as a production manager with a company but it quickly became clear that I had made a mistake because the core thinking of that firm was immoral, illegal & destined for bankruptcy so I left quickly into the first job I could find, a silly little "switch off" job with just two employees, me as service manager & the boss taking care of sales (yes the firm I left went bankrupt 6 months later as just I had predicted). It was supposed to be a stop gap job while I looked for a new challenge but it was comfortable...too comfortable & I got "lazy" because it was really easy to be very good at this job, which had very little technical or managerial content. The problem came around 9 years later because my boss changed the US company we represented from one to the bigger competitor...& they were awful. My job went from too easy to completely impossible by deliberate design because although the new firm wanted my boss to sell their stuff north of the border, they never wanted me to be able to service it in Canada & I lasted 9 months before I ended up jobless through no fault of my own. Tossed back into the pool again after a 9 year lull, I find the world is a VERY different place...

I'm sorry but this gig economy way of life seems to be promoting underemployment, increase in working class poverty, no health insurance and corporates evading more and more tax without citizens having a safety net. This economy is going to ruin lives. All because of technology we did not need and gave into too much. Humans gave into laziness and this is the payback
