This is amazing and to think it has been around for years. Spread the word, keep building to open the eyes of others on how to do this. I had already planned on using this method for my "She Shed" and was viewing KZbin for updates on Aircrete and found this video. I hope the dome in Hawaii isn't in the active flow of lava that is happening.

New materials like this are fantastic...if you can find a contractor to build with it and get the plans through the permitting process. After all that, you still can't get a mortgage on it. Even if you have cash it's hard to find a contractor. We discovered that the biggest challenges to building a dome home are not technical. They're logistical and regulatory. Florida should be the concrete dome capitol of the world but there are only a handful in the entire state.

Awesome speech. Funny and great content. We certainly need these kind of houses here in Hawaii with the hurricane scares, lava, and flooding we had last year in 2018. We have seen it over and over again, the current structures we are using get demolished during a hurricane and yet they keep using the same material to rebuild. It makes no sense. Thank you for sharing and doing the work you are doing!!!

In the failed egg example, I totally know what he was attempting to do but was not able to offer a rebuttal. He meant to say that you should try an experiment with an egg, but the egg must be long side between both your hands. Then you try to crush the egg lengthwise. If you like to try it, it will not be able to be crushed because it is incredibly strong lengthwise but if you were to do it with the short side between your hands, then it would be crushed immediately.

Just check around, there are videos explaining how to make the equipment for making aircrete for $30 bucks. It's just portland cement and a foam made with soap, mixed together. Just use some finer metal mesh as reinforcement, and seal the surface if exposed to weather or wear. It's no secret or super complex thing, you can get going tomorrow. The extra machinery you need compared to normal cement is an air compressor and a foaming device. The saving in concrete and re-bar obviously makes the result cheaper despite the extra equipment. The foaming device is easy to make with some tubes and steel wool. Just look for videos on DIY aircrete. Go! :) I'm totally gonna try this for making my new workshop.

The concern there is the covering, as all the builds are in mild climates. Montana is pretty extreme, and the temp flux is pretty drastic. Not sure outer fabric would hold. Shouldn't stop the tribes from trying it in their own jurisdiction though. Feds wouldn't care if you made it from Legos; it's state and local building codes you have to out-maneuver.

Am definitely sold on this type of home construction but the only roadblock encountered is obtaining financing as we own a piece of property in Connecticut for which conventional financing is very stringent. Compressive strength is low even when able to carry a car. Do you have compressive strength and specific weight figures? Shrinkage? Thermal insulation values? Are fillers e.g. sand, added to the aircrete? Hygroscopic properties? Can aircrete be used for load bearing structures? Steel reinforcement possible? Corrosion protection of reinforcing steel needed within airated concrete? Carbonisation rate of air crete? Cement additives used? How to calculate the integrety of an aircrete structure to comply with building regulations? Thanks in advance for your answer. Making cement causes lots of CO2 ...is aircrete eco friendly or green nevertheless? When the physical properties of aircrete are not known or not reproduceble by the civil engineer architect or contractors, design will be based on lots of guess work... How to be sure it complies with the Building Codes ?

The concept of Aircrete sounds great. However, I would like to see homes built in a more angular structure. This is because placing furniture against rounded walls can be difficult. I presently live in an adobe home in Ecuador, where most of the lower socioeconomic families live in homes of adobe construction. However, adobe is meant for dry environments (ie, New Mexico, Arizona), and, in Ecuador, half of the year is not dry. Aircrete sounds very promising.

Aircrete is fine but the cost the of material is higher and it has a higher CO2 and energy footprint. While a earth based adobe or cob construction, can last hundreds or even thousands of years when designed properly. Its roof, foundation and landscaping along with the use fibers and the use of exterior protection are key factors. Such as breathable but durable plaster mix and a lath/mesh are all factor on how durable and maintenance free or not the structure will be. Reply if you have any questions. And good luck...

This all sounds nice but you still need land to build and land in most places, like the Seattle area has been down-zoned to keep it from becoming one huge suburb. So - as population increases the available land becomes too expensive for even middle class people to afford. Add to that the importation of people from large family cultures and I don't see affordable housing anywhere on the horizon, even if you can come up with inexpensive building material. Yes - it seems absurd that people build with materials that can be burned down or blown away. I hope you can get the building departments on your side. If I ever build again I'll certainly look into AirCrete.

I wonder if these bubbles would be more sustainable with it as they had to have their bubbles last hours long in varied temperature differences. If you can find that particular polymer foam agent and test it to see if it lasts longer dollar for dollar, it might be an alternative. Thank you for all your efforts and God bless you.

Well. Aircrete as he calls it is not new. Many years used in Europe. Biggest companies are Ytong and Hebel. He actually uses some of there product videos to explain his "aircrete". So no. Nothing new. Specs aren't provided by him as needed by home inspectors or engineers. Because he has none. Ytong and Hebel would have to close their factories without providing specs of their stones. Only new is that North America does not know about stones used in home building around the world. I did build my house with Liapor. Much better than "aircrete". I actually consider to go to one of his training program to see if the stones made of equal quality like Ytong or Hebel. But I think that they are not!

So I gather that aircrete has good compressive strength but what about tensile strength? There are a lot of seismically active areas around the globe. I just don't know if fiber mesh would do the job since not many specs were given. The tropics, which are home to 40% of the worlds population, are closer to the sun so housing needs to be either shaded or cooled to keep them livable and I'm wondering how this can be achieved? I like the idea of dome homes but perhaps a reinforced concrete post and beam cage with aircrete infill walls and an aluminum roof would be more appropriate...at least for areas out of the typhoon belt. I have plans to build a house of this type but, with a double roof for shading and passive cooling however, I would rather build an aircrete dome house or series of smaller structures connected by enclosed hallways if the issues I mentioned can be overcome. Anyone out there have any ideas?

Depends on the climate... if you're in too cold a zone without shelter you'll freeze to death in a matter of hours... even with a full stomach.

maybe you could pass on the plans on how to build this machine that fits into a brief case that can be used to make Aircrete? i mean if you really wanted to make change, you would release a DIY or How to video about how to do this ?

Hempcrete is not load bearing. Could perhaps be combined for the insulation properties.

I am interested in designing an automation system to build these. What I have in mind, as a system, is something that you can have pre-programmed different layout setups. You choose what you want, then the machine tells you the quantities it needs for each product like soap, concrete or whatever. Having a background in instrumentation (Instrumentation Journeyman and Technologist), and a hobbiest myself, I think this is very doable.
