Lela's story is really sad when you think about it: She's forced to be a "dumb girl" in a movie, finds her way to the real world, discovers she can be more than a stereotype and get independence, then she has to give it all up. She's stuck, forced to stay small, that's heartbreaking.

Major plot hole I didn't realize until I watched this video just now: If Lela changes the movie, and all of reality is also changed as a result, meaning Brady and Mack never met, wouldn't that also mean that Mack would have gotten on the plane in Teen Beach 1 and gone to the prep school instead, thus making the whole final scene impossible? How has this not dawned on anyone higher up at Disney Channel? It's like whoever wrote Teen Beach 2 never watched the first Teen Beach Movie and wrote this based on a terrible Wikipedia synopsis or something. "I walked into the water, questioning my whole existence." "And I didn't question anything." I can't vouch for the overall quality of this movie, or the first one, but Tanner's character is a work of art. The sheer sincerity of him is something refreshing in the modern age of self-referential ironic eye-roll humor? Tanner isn't self-deprecating, or winking to camera, or sardonically mocking how stupid his own character is. He really is that enthusiastically clueless. That's it. He doesn't have an edge. He's not secretly sinister or mean or complicated. He's silly, but not a character to cut down and sarcastically scorn. He's a parody of an archetype, a character we're supposed to find exaggerated and comedic, but in a good-spirited way. He's a happy completely sincere clueless over the top doofus, and it's great.

Old Mack had to learn the lesson of following your heart. Old Mack then taught that lesson to Lela, who then taught it to new Mack through Lela: Queen of the Beach. New Mack already follows her heart and knew from the start not to go to fancy boarding school-at least in my opinion. It's possible that this is another reason why Mack and Brady didn't meet surfing on the same beach (even if Brady wasn't into the musical, if they were really inevitable there's a good chance they would have and should have met), that because she decided not to go to the fancy boarding school that she made a compromise with her aunt to do a summer course or something. Regardless, I think that makes sense to me.

okay so here’s how the ending could’ve worked first, lose the third reprise of meant to be. we’ll save that for later. second, have Brady briefly re-enter the movie world, but when he comes back, he still remembers Mack, but Mack doesn’t remember him. then at the party at the end, Brady tries to fix her memory of him but to no avail. and _then_ have the third reprise with Brady singing the first verse before being told to leave as he’s weirding everyone out. this somehow restores Mack’s memory as she joins in the song and the film continues as normal without the franchise being rendered pointless

It was established at the beginning of TBM2 that Brady and Mack met OVER Wet Side Story, not inside its world. That’s why they wouldn’t have met if the movie never happened. Also, the only reason why they had to keep the movie the same in the original movie was because they needed a storm to happen that wouldn’t have happened unless the movie played out as normal. Also, Brady and Mack’s goal wasn’t to keep the movie from not existing so they still would have met, it was to keep the characters of the movie, which they now know are sentient, from basically dying.

Once they were way bigger than Robert Pattinson and Kristen Stweart, and look where they are now. Danielle Radcliffe does have a movie called Antlers coming out in October I believe (originally scheduled for April 2020), but he certainly doesn't have anything as big as The Batman. And Emma Watson's last breakout role was as Belle and honest Emily Browning would've worked just as well, or a number of other actresses, although I guess the appeal of Hermione Granger as a Disney Princess was intriguing. But it was the power of the brand that made that movie a hit, whereas someone doesn't get Batman based on being in Twilight.

Few sequels make me this upset. But this one just......urgh! And like, for 90% of the film it was eh, but not totally bad. It had some saving qualities and some good ideas. Which were completely ruined in the last TEN minutes. How do you write an ending that not only makes the last hour worthless, but also the whole last MOVIE worthless as well!? How did anyone think that ending was ok? They tried to "girl power" it but as a girl, this fell completely flat. They had a good thing with good growth and then just chuck it out the window, making everything seem forced. All that growth with Tanner? He is just stupid now. The cool ideas with Lela? She just comes across as if everything was just handed to her and took away her layers. They also made her seem really.....mean to be honest.(She never even apologized for hurting Tanner's feelings. Didn't even really have a real moment with him.) The relationship we spent two movies building? Gone. Every character had everything stripped from them. I just pretend that the last ten minutes don't exist and that Lela found herself with having to make the film about her(Seeing the movie title get changed to Lela, Queen of the Beach and seeing Tanner become a background character with no importance really rubbed me the wrong way). And Mac and Brady were able to grow in their relationship naturally and healthy. And Tanner actually finished his plot growth.

Don't need to make everything so complicated

That’s how I felt exactly! Like, I would prefer a bad sequel over this! It completely undermines the whole first movie. Like, that’s the opposite of what a sequel is supposed to do! At this point, I only feel like Lela was being completely selfish! As a girl, I didn’t find it “inspiring” or whatever they were trying to go at it with. Like, Lela was happy in the first movie! But, suddenly, she’s like “I’m not satisfied with this life” like, THEY COMPLETELY DECIDED TO THEOW THE FIRST MOVIE OUT THE WINDOW AND ITS KUST SO DISRESPECTFUL TO THE ORIGINAL AND THE FANS WHO LOVED THE ORIGINAL.
@lafirecracker32493 жыл бұрын
@@_helvetixa So, true. And not to mention that near the beginning of the 2nd movie there's that scene where in the film world, the film is nearing the final battle. And the guys tell the girls that they need to "wait because the guys need to do this". But like in the first movie, both the girls and guys fight in the final battle. And it wasn't because of Mack and Brady. Both the surfers and bikers, male and female, decide to go. They just made a man/woman issue where there was none. And was Lela a bit of a stereotype? Yes, so was Tanner, that was kinda the point. If they wanted to give them growth, give them BOTH growth. Have them grow together. They didn't have to put a sexism issue in there when there really wasn't one.(just a stereotype issue which again, affected both of them) But they "fixed" the sexism issue, by making another one against Tanner. But that's fine because Tanner gets put back into a stereotype that we can just laugh at. What a waste.

@@lafirecracker3249 so true, I’m just so angry with how they approached this when the first movie gave such a great place to do a sequel on. There could’ve been much better drama, that didn’t involve this forced gender issue and stuff. Like, maybe the existentialism of the fact that their whole lives are a lie or something. I remember feeling soooo mad and disappointed at how this movie ended when I was younger and watched it for the first time. The thing about them not meeting because the movie changed is not that they allegedly met IN the movie, but it's basically like "oh now it's a 'revolutionary feminist movie' from the 60s so obviously Brady would've never heard of it because it's ✨girly✨" so that's why they never met, because Brady wouldn't have been on that spot watching that movie on the day they should've first met yada yada yada... At least that's how I understand it. What pisses me off the most is 1) this ending creates a paradox, and it's such a bad one. If they never met, then they never got stuck INSIDE the movie, therefore they never met the characters, and if they never met them, then why would Lela change the movie? Cause Mack was the one who convinced her to do it, so yeah. 2) it literally CANCELS every fucking thing that happened in teen beach movie and teen beach 2. Like... everything we watched, every single scene, the character development, none of it ever happened, everything is just gone, they just wiped it like that. 3) correct me if I'm wrong, but wasn't Mack supposed to move away from there? If I recall correctly, she only stayed because of everything she went through with Brady and the characters of the movie, so if none of that happened, she shouldn't even be there throwing a fundraiser thing at that beach, cause she'd be living far away at this point. lmao I hate myself for still being so bitter over a disney channel movie but 💀

I could be wrong about this but the reason why they didn’t remember each other after everything happened was because Mack and Brady first met after they bonded over the movie. Brady was watching Wet Side Story, Mack saw, they watched it together, that’s how they met. NOT IN THE MOVIE, BUT BECAUSE OF THE MOVIE. Since it wasn’t Wet Side Story anymore, they never watched it together and bonded over it, so they didn’t know each other.

It's not that they met in the WSS world (they didn't), they met during a screening of Wet Side Story, which now no longer exists. That's why they don't know each other. The end scene of the movie, where they are at the screening of 'Layla, Queen of the Beach' is them meeting in the altered timeline - the point when they'd have originally met at a WSS screening.

I just realized that the actors that were in wet side story have to exist in real life. It doesn't really change much but I had never though about that before... I think that concept could've made for an interesting movie though. Like, hollywood is making wet side 2 and Mack and Brady decide to go check it out. They meet all the actors who are completely different from their characters. Like Lela is a diva and an influencer on instagram, Tanner is actually smart and can think and stuff. Idk, I mean anything is better than the teen beach 2 that we got lol.

Yeah, I like that, only thing is the characters would be older considering it is an old movie.

I suppose. But I mean, they already retconned teen beach 1 in teen beach 2. So they could probably retcon the first movie and say wet side story was actually made in the 2010’s. Idk, I’d also enjoy a movie just about the production of wet side story, or simply just wet side story on it’s own.

@@Cllocopine Better movie idea but they didn't retcon it to the mid 2000s. It was still released it the 60s which was why Mack said something about the movie being ahead of it's time. Maybe we could imagine it sucked when it was released because of this and was thought to be scandalous but got popular after this generation became aware of it. Like when some movies when first released it wasn't well received but years later gains a fan following or has alot of people watching. Shouldn't have let it affect the real world as it creates a paradox. Should have just let whatever magic that allowed them to go into the movie in the first place, create a world separate from the movie that only Brady and Mack know about.

If you want an interesting DCOM: The Swap. It centers on a gender bending Freaky Friday flip, but handles gender roles in a surprisingly healthy way for a DCOM with that as a premise

Explaining the gender stuff more: First of all, there are surprisingly few jokes about a boy/girl having to do girl/boy things. About the only four I can remember are Jack in Ellie's body getting their legs waxed (which, fair), Jack making an offhand comment about how he'll need to start looking for a prom dress if they can't fix this, Jack in Ellie's body having to flirt with a guy because the normal occupant of the body he's inhabiting is straight, and Ellie in Jack's body overpreparing when introducing someone to Jack's friend group. (Body swap movies make discussing sexuality *really* confusing...) But otherwise, they both take each other's lives completely in stride, even including Jack in Ellie's body taking the initiative to dress very femininely for the party. (Spoilers here on out) Second, they actually use the swap to address toxic masculinity in Jack's life, instead of having him revert to it afterward. Jack spends his time in Ellie's body learning to be more open about his emotions, like his grief from his mother's death, while Ellie in Jack's body calls out his dad and brothers for pressuring him to bottle up that grief. Third, Ellie's life actually addresses the little-discussed toxic femininity. It's the equivalent of toxic masculinity in women, where they're pressured to fill traditionally feminine gender roles to an unhealthy extreme. For example, valuing group cohesion over being able to express your actual thoughts. Jack in Ellie's body addresses that one by actually calling out Ellie's former best friend for being a jerk, resulting in her and Ellie being able to peacefully remain friends, just not best friends, instead of the passive-aggressive psychological warfare stereotypical of teenage girls boiling over into a total falling out. And fourth, Jack and Ellie don't get paired off as a couple, despite both being heterosexual and being the male and female leads.

I think when Brady says “that’s WHERE Mack and I met” he should of said “that’s HOW Mack and I met”

Me after finishing the movie: that literally cannot happen. Lela can’t change the movie to where it doesn’t exist because she only knows to change it from Mack who never meets lela because the original movie doesn’t even exist! Mack and Brady have to know each other if lela has changed as a person. And lela can’t change as a person unless she knows Mack which can’t happen unless Mack knows Brady meeting each other watching a movie which no longer exist and they can’t travel to meet them anymore!!!! My seven year old niece: 😶😶😶 what?
