I'm going to be fair here and state a few things; first it is never a good idea to talk to the police guilty or not if you are a suspect unless if you have a strong alibi/case to prove you are innocent and or the situation to save a life is urgent (which we're not sure if Caitlyn disappeared on her own or committed suicide. If it was the latter the stepdad cannot do anything already and if it was the former then he may not have anything to say). Second, the police cannot do anything other than ask him to go down to the station for a talk. If he refuses to talk he is invoking his right to remain silent and they have nothing to hold him with, so the police can do nothing but investigate for evidence but it's hard to without a few things such as a body, video cam, etc. (though I agree they can scour to do a better investigation just to try and determine if foul play really was involved). I think he's likely guilty as well, but there's simply not enough evidence to hold him and there are other alternative theories that hold merit such as Caitlyn committing suicide (though it doesn't sound like she was that type of person - assault is a very distressing situation) and disappearing/leaving on her own. And innocent before proven guilty - I don't have the 90% confidence he's guilty. To jail a person who is innocent is to create two victims (and a lot of bad PR and bad faith.)

I don’t understand WHY the police haven’t gotten a search warrant for the ex stepfather’s phone, and check out EVERY SINGLE DETAIL about and on his phone. All messages and where it was at time of Kaitlin’s disappearance etc. They certainly have more than enough probable cause to get one. Unbelievable really. Don’t they want this case solved? Also, IF Kaitlin had committed suicide, which I personally don’t believe she has, I’m pretty certain her body would have been found by now. Hopefully her family can find justice and soon.
