well my grandma did it for 33 years for my aunt until her condition took her life. She had a surgery most people cannot fathom to have, while awake. A big part is on the kid to accept themselves. Kids are to often told how to feel about themselves and not given the chance to have their own feelings. A lot of generations have done this. My grandma was of the generation though where you taught your kids what mattered. Kids are more resilient these days and are not given the credit for it.

It's alarming how many people, including many medical practitioners, do not recognize the symptoms of sepsis and TSS. I hope awareness spreads in this country so we can get people help faster. Doctors went with the standard flu diagnosis coz of the high fever instead of looking at all symptoms & doing a thorough exam including pathology reports such as a complete blood exam. Maybe if Docs were not so quick with their initial diagnosis things could have turned out differently

My personal doctor was sufficiently alarmed by an infection, she sent me immediately to hospital ER for intravenous antibiotics. Waiting room was completely empty but no doctor for THREE HOURS despite 1 leg 2x bigger than healthy 1. Feel REALLY fortunate b/c left, returning to my doctor for antibiotic pills.

In the case of my friend who passed away at 32 from sepsis, seemingly out of nowhere, it was lack of awareness on the part of the urgent care that treated him, and his friends and family who also didn't know any better. He passed out while at the pharmacy picking up flu medication and never recovered.

It’s like the reversal of assuming that something warranted an antibiotic, when it was viral -resulted in overprescribing of antibiotics so patients regarded doctors as “doing something”. Medical treatment is often as much medical politics as it is health treatment much if the time.

This poor kid was hit with strep. Its sad because he didn't get the antibiotics he needed in time. And the same drugs that are used to save you from shock / low blood pressure are the same drugs that starve your extremities of oxygen and cause gangrene.

@@pencil6965 We're not sure, honestly. He was only 24 years old and led a very active life socially and would go to the gym a lot. We were actually thinking because he was working out a lot and eating super clean at the time, it might have impacted his immune system? But his symptoms and progression were pretty much exactly like what was described in the video. We only really started to realize something was wrong when we saw the rashes all over his body. I remember the doctor later comparing contracting meningitis to a "car accident." Completely sudden and random unfortunately :(

No explanation of where they think he got the infection? Did he have it before or AFTER he was in the hospital. I keep seeing news about people with pneumonia or similar checking in to a hospital and coming down with sepsis like symptoms afterwards. They also needed amputations. So sad. The employees who are supposed to clean and disinfect hospitals are overworked and underpaid. If you have to go to the hospital ask your family to bring Lysol wipes and clean everything in your room!!

I had septic shock-sepsis about 12 years ago. When they picked me up at my home by ambulance, they couldn't find blood pressure or pulse. They put me on oxygen and took me to the hospital, and I spent 4 days in ICU. Thank God, I didn't loose my limbs, but i would have been glad to give them up if I would have had to, just to be able to live.....I was 53 years old when it happened to me. Everyday is a gift from God.

If doctors weren’t so quick to diagnose and would actually really look into what is going on they might have been able to prevent the cardiac arrest and amputations. Just stop and ask a few more questions. Run general bloodwork and use functional protocols for interpreting it. It’s sad that with all of our medical knowledge and diagnostic abilities, things like this go undiagnosed until it’s too late. Also, I want this family to pursue WHY he had TSS. If I heard amputation was the only solution, I would've been looking for another doctor. I can't even grasp that as being a solution. To think they cannot kill an infection so, limb removal would do it I just can't digest. Even for my cat this was an issue. They wanted to euth her bc they could not kill the infection. I refused. I took her out of there, found a way to kill the infection myself, she recovered without losing her leg. Heart wrenching. God bless this kid for what he has endured. I wish him the best. 🙏💫🌱🌏

So sorry to hear that this young man had this happened to him and even worse that it happened at such a young age. I pray for his healing in mind, body and soul. I’ve had a near death experience n major physical trauma as an adult and it was rough so I know it’s got to be so much tougher on someone who is just beginning to blossom. He will be mourning the loss of limbs, dreams and face uncertainty. He may smile at times so as not to show his loving parents his inner turmoil. This ordeal May surface inner strength that he never realized. Tragedies in life can make you or break you. I believe he will be a force to be reckoned with once he gets past the hurdle with the love of family, friends and support mechanism’s whether it be his faith, support groups and counseling. He is a miracle to be alive. Nothing is impossible in this life. I look forward to his speedy recover and better days to come. I’m glad to see he has a strong father and loving mother at his side.

The thing is, any fever that doesn't break in 3 days (72 hours) should be treated as an emergency. That is something I've known ever since I was a child, my grandmother would say it, my mother who had heard it from doctors before when doctors knew what they were doing, and it's something everyone should known. If you feel sick is ok to stay home and let the fever and body do it's thing but if it persist beyond 72 hours go to the doctor asap. If that doc is not alarmed in any way then you go to another emergency care or change your family doctor.

I'm glad he wanted to live because it's a hard pill to swallow if you are accepting of death and your loved ones don't let you go. He is not out of the woods yet. Be vigilant and fast on any signs of infection and shortness of breath. ECMO can cause blood clots that cause death up to a year later. The survival rate post ECMO is terrible. If you're admitted with sepsis you should get 30ml per kg body weight immediately and completed in 2 hours, antibiotics within two hours of admission and they should be trending your lactic acid levels every 2 hours until they are downtrending and less than 2. Only in CHF and kidney disease is the amount of fluids decreased from that amount, and even then, survival is better with the fluids being placed on the vent than without.
