Exactly. I don't think it's a simply case of depression. There's likely underlying sociopathy and psychopathy too -- in which case, 16 years is truly too short. Research shows that psychopaths and sociopaths are extremely resistant to change, and treatment only tends to make them better at manipulation/deception. The current professional advice is to keep them away from society, in order to protect society from a vicious cycle of trauma. I'm a believer in redemption and restoration, but research rightly shows that psychopathy is the one exemption. For everyone else reading this, please remember to keep your light bright in dark and despairing times -- we always have a choice, to choose good or evil. Sometimes, people in their darkness and despair, choose evil, and in doing so, sink to a point where redemption is near-impossible.
