Have been watching so many of these stories the past couples of weeks non-stop jumping around to different stories. Have been out since 1991in my early 20s. Still have family in. I knew so much wasn't right by my early 20s but didn't know all if this and wish my family would watch these but they hardly ever talk to me so 😔. These stories hit hard whether your in or out or away for 30 years. Thank you. Obsessed with these beautiful stories. I think it feels like kindred good souls watching each person sharing. There are people like me. It's comforting to know there are others out there.

THANK YOU so much, Brinley!! My wife and I are very concerned about talking to our 15 year old son about our current faith crisis. He doesn't know the things about the church we are coming to terms with. That upcoming conversation with him will break all of our hearts. We will encourage him to watch your story and hear from someone who understands. You are brave and wonderful. And I believe you WILL help many. Bless you....

Barnstar Vintage Treasures good luck! I hope all goes well and that he feels loved and supported, that was my goal when doing the podcast... to help the teens who have lost or are losing their foundation. After a year of processing and building up my life again in a way that feels true to me, I can say it had been the biggest blessings of my life. Took me a while to think like that, but i am happier than I ever was now!

brinley young Thank you for your kind words. We did have "the big meeting" and it was horrible to watch your child's world crumble. It was very hard, but later the same day, after talking and answering his question, he said he felt relief. He told us about a few things that were already on his "shelf." We showed about five minutes of your comments but he didn't want to watch anything. And after talking here and there, he wanted to just not talk about it, which is the way he is processing things. Thank goodness he has several non Mormon friends. If we lived, like you, surrounded by LDS kids it would be harder. I did tell him, emphatically, what you said...."It gets better." And it is getting better. I will share your comment with him. Thank you again....you are brave and I salute you, little sister. ;-)

It’s so hard and takes a long time to take it all in. When I first learned about it I wanted to learn until I had drawn conclusions and figured it out (it proved to be a much bigger and more complicated process than that) but my 12 year old sister was much more like your son and wanted to process it alone before she started opening up. It’s just a huge process and I sincerely hope that he finds the help and support that he needs and you too! It’s nice for me to hear about other teenagers that are going through it as well because it can be lonely sometimes:)

Oh Brinley you’re absolutely beautiful! It touched me deeply seeing you tear up at the mention of what Jesus meant to you. And dear, yes all of those “people” were made up, they weren’t real EXCEPT for Jesus. When I was a member I had a profound respect and reverence (that’s the perfect word) for Christ. I never called Him Jesus, that just felt so wrong! But now I only call Him Jesus! Through a difficult time in my life when I felt the whole world had turned their back on me there was One who didn’t, that was Jesus... God. I came to have a personal relationship with Him and I fell in love with Him; He’s my best friend. Jesus feels personable and someone I KNEW, whereas Christ was distant and someone I respected and believed in but not someone I knew. I would never even think of calling Jesus my friend while a Mormon. God is so much better and far bigger than Mormons make Him. They put Him in a box and belittle Him to the level of a man. In fact according to Mormons He IS a man! God is Spirit (though honestly I’ve always believed that) and mortal man cannot see the Spirit Father. Think of this as the greatest thing that could have ever happened to you because now you are spiritually and religiously free! You now get to take your own path to God and experience “the supreme adventure of all human existence, man seeking God, for himself, and as himself and FINDING HIM.” God bless you Brinley.♥️

What an incredibly intelligent and well composed young lady! Brinley, you are developing a wonderful intellect and character. Your parents' allegiance to truth is found expressed in your journey as well. A thought just crossed my mind as I listened to Brinley talk factually about evolution -- huh, what a beautiful young woman, 15 years old, huh, she is just old enough to become one of Joseph Smith's young brides! and that creeps me out majorly!! (Sorry Brinley, it was a stream of consciousness thought).

Having been inactive since like 18yrs old, now 33 and looking back into the church. It's actually kind of sad that the mormon culture is dying as a result of the misguided leadership of the church in its current state. This family shouldn't have had to leave the church, like church leadership needs to address some things about the history and it's daily administration. There are so many good things about it that ultimately out weigh the bad, or that could potentially out weigh the bad

Dad, It's okay if you told your daughter for 14 years that you thought that it was true. For you, at the time, it was. And there is no shame in that. To many people the gospel meant or means love and you can clearly see that you have love here. We want what is best for our children. The truth comes from the connection and love that you have with your wife and daughter and this is clearly seen here. The truth came from the intent and the desire to have compassion and love. I do not fault you nor your family for this beautiful belief. Now, there is new knowledge and and new information as we are all getting for those of us who were raised in the church. That does not change the fact that our intent was good. Thanks for sharing your story and I am sending positivity and empathy to you and your loved ones.

From my perspective on the outside looking in, the part that makes me happiest for this family with four daughters - now, as those girls mature into women, they can reach for the stars without the fear that comes with not conforming to the Mormon [extremely] conservative view of a woman's place. I know TBM's pay lip service to the idea of women being equal, but whenever I listen to Mormon women (as well as other fundamentalist Christian denominations - to be fair) talk they are so oblivious to the fact that what they are really talking about smacks more of a 20th Century attitude pre-Civil Rights movement known as, "Separate but Equal" This is a failed social experiment. How many stories are told in Primary to little girls about things their Heavenly Mom has done for them - outside of bear spirit children for their Heavenly Dad? Whether the church deliberately sets out to do this or not, they are creating an image of a woman's worth that will last a lifetime. So reach for the stars Brinley and for your sisters as well.

Your experiences with God are sacred, and I agree that the peace and joy you have are a blessing. I would never presume to enter into that space and interpret your own experiences. But let me only propose: what if God can give us experiences of Himself not only when we have found the right answers, but out of His unconditional love for us as humans? I too live in profound peace and joy, and I have experienced the love of the Father many times in prayer (not to compare them with your experiences), and I am a Catholic Christian. "I will never leave thee, nor forsake thee." (Deut. 31:8, Hebrews 13:5)

@@Michaeasmith You are right Michaesmith, our Heavenly Father loves us; we are His children. It is nice to hear that people from different religions have experienced His divine love. I wish you the best, and if you ever want to learn more about our eternal destiny, I can help. Before joining the Church of Jesus Christ I was in prison. Nothing could help me break the chains I allowed Satan to put on me. My life is new today, it continues to change because of eternal truths shared in the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints; I study them daily. I have never felt closer to God than when learning about these important gospel truths that the Lord intends for us all to know and accept, sooner or later.

@Headless Horseman I use to think the same thing and then I prayed to ask if the Book of Mormon was from God, and I received an unequivocal answer that it is God's book and He wants me to read, study, and pray about it daily. The day will come when we all get to see God face to face, and then we all will know, without faith what is right and what is wrong. I am blessed; I already know the Book of Mormon is from Him reserved for the last days, and I have reaped many blessings from following the answers I received from God, not man.

I see the biggest problem here is the mistake by members of this Church to focus their faith “in the church” rather than focusing their faith First in the Lord Jesus Christ and Gods plan of Salvation for mankind. The Church is a tool for accomplishing some of the Lords ordinance work and covenants with God while on the earth. It’s everyone’s own responsibility to learn all they can about God and His Gospel from All sources mainly the Bible. Expecting that Prophets and leaders are perfect within any Church one chooses to attend is unrealistic. All men ( and women) are fallen and “When, not just IF” errors are made, we will have to try and do our best to sort out the mess. There is so much more that’s good than bad about the Gospel Christ restored to the earth than the failings of Joseph Smith and poor choices made by men throughout the formational period of this relatively young Church in comparison to other denominations. All the faithful Christians are trying to do what is right I pray we can all work together to further the work of our Lord and Savior Jesus Christ helping one another find joy and peace in following Him.

How about they chose truth over good feelings...? Did you listen to the podcast? This isn't what happened...at all
@VaidasJSP
@VaidasJSP 5 жыл бұрын
@@abluelark I listened for 50minutes. I'm happy member of the church, and all this seems childish and not wise as forgetting or not knowing basic things. They betrayed simple things, they didnt understand what it was about church anyway, so in a way they didnt loose so much. I like my church. And no I dont say that feelings or emotions that important decisions should be made on. That is not how it works. But I guess you think that is how it works. :) this is a sad and I would express "stupid" story, to be honest, and I really dont want to offend, but it really looks to me like that. I am so happy and value the restoration of the church. But something should be done so people would not get into these kinds of situations... but maybe its just that as poon can be used for good and for bad. So these people managed to be elusive and ignorant to what is spiritual part. And well they will just have the consequances of their choices, so as others who do good at understanding spiritual stuff. Have a good day. :) How do you see what happened?
@abluelark
@abluelark 5 жыл бұрын
@@VaidasJSP Thanks for the reply...and so fast. ;). I think these people, (who are now being excommunicated for this podcast) have made a difficult decision to leave their church. I don't think it's a stupid, painless, and childish way to leave. I dont think it's a betrayal on what they have been raised to believe in. I think the church they grew up in doesn't exist. Things like the CES Letter, Gospel topics essays on LDS.org, and the internet are opening people up to church history and its complications. I guess what I am trying to say is that it's not their fault that the church is currently going through a truth crisis. I disagree that they never understood what the Gospel was anyways. These folks entire lives was the church.
@VaidasJSP
@VaidasJSP 5 жыл бұрын
@@abluelark I think it is their responsibility to be honest, to pray, to seek guidance of Holy spirit, and to live a saint life. "truth" and "judging" are just ideas that trick you. If a church inspires for good things, and people commit to live in a good manner and they are blessed that is very wonderful! And I would shame those that try to make "truth" significant and forget about compassion and spirit. Greed for truth, pride in truth - forms of sin. I can only feel sorry for these people. But as I said before, we will have consequences by our choices. :) I was searching for "truth" more than ten years before understanding what the church was really about and how good it is! If you want some truth try reading forth part of "Urantia Book" online, its free online to read. But the church has simplicity, and fullness. And that is that basic simplicity that is important, and that you and these people fail to see, it seems. I just dont understand as a member for 8 months, how could they not see the basics and what is most important in church? Were they led away by their pride or greed for something.. I still feel bad for using the word, but it really seems so stupid to me. I would like for other people to not fall for the same mistakes. But that is how people grow sometimes, by mistakes, or sometimes they dont recover from it. Well, have a good day.
@abluelark
@abluelark 5 жыл бұрын
@@VaidasJSP Lots to unpack here. Do you value truth? How is seeking or "greed" the truth a sin? "The glory of God is intelligence, or light and truth", D&C 93:36. While the basics are important, so are the truth claims of the church. When you find out that Joseph Smith had 35 wives, or that the Book of Abraham is 100% wrong in it's translation, or the temple ceremony was developed from the mason, or that priesthood, and eternal ordinances were withheld from those of african-descent, or that Joseph Smith was arrested as a con-man just years before he started the church, the 4 different accounts of the first vision, book of mormon anachronisms, etc. Stuff like this isn't easily digestible for a lot of people. One can't simply rely on the basics to get us through the historical facts, They aren't stupid for having to wrestle these issues and maintain a testimony in the "one true church". It's a painful process that took this family nearly 3 years to process.
