Deep Purple Live! These 5 guys have SO much talent AND they make it work. Early 70's rock, the golden age.

I had the great pleasure of seeing the band live a few months ago. They are still great, excellent musicians, and still incredibly enjoyable. Some of their songs are older than me, but the question always arises as to why music like this is no longer made today. Because there simply aren't many musicians in this world who are that good.

Deep Purple always improvise live. The Child In Time live from 1970 is good. However, it is better on the live album "Made In Japan" 1972. This album contains ALL the best versions of the songs on it including "Highway Star", "Smoke On The Water".

I think I can objectively say this version of Deep Purple is one of the greatest bands ever. All five members absolutely elite at their craft. It's a shame that personalities kept them from having a long run together, but they still left a hell of a legacy.

At least they have 3/5 of this lineup, and Don is a legendary keyboardist already. 15 year old me is lucky they still exist cause I can see them next February!

Ritchie never played the same solo twice. His improvisation is off the charts, so unbelievably great and some that are so scattered it become more noise than music. You never know what you get from Ritchie and for that reason he is a guitar god.

There is a very rare Deep Purple album that is seriously underrated from 1970 called Deep Purple in Concert. I don't think anyone from KZbin has reviewed anything from this album. There is some monster guitar jams.

Yes, please do the live version of "Child in Time" from 1970. It isn't as musically perfect as the "Made in Japan" album version, but it is (by far) the most entertaining live performance to watch in their catalog...Richie Blackmore's one handed- guitar solo is amazing...

They were the best live and their live album Maid In Japan is the benchmark for live albums. This is a concert in Denmark, Copenhagen, on March 1st, 1972, this is only the third concert in the Machine Head tour, an album that will be released on March 25, 1972. This is a wonderful concert, although not yet polished to the end and very rare, which shows footage with the band. And Child In Time, live, 1970 is simply a masterpiece. I would recommend the entire Granada TV recording, it's only about 24 minutes long and contains the second part of Speed King, the entire Child In Time and the instrumental piece Wring That Neck - delightful.

You’re fun to watch because of your appreciation level for truly good music and real talent! You would LOVE Deep Purple’s song BURN! I hope some day you will do that. I saw them live way back when. It was amazing! Also it would be interesting to see your reaction to “In a Gadda Da Vida” by Iron Butterfly. It’s from 1968. It’s 17 minutes long and back then it was an anthem. SUCH a popular, break-through song. Hopefully you will consider that that at some point! Thanks! Loved your reaction!

Jon Lord for the win! You finally got to see visually what's there all along and all the album cuts and the album cut for this song lazy does feature him but this just shows you how tight he's integrated with the guitar how much in control of that Beast of an instrument he is, he played to a marshall stack so it was every bit as deafening as the guitars. I'm sure you noticed Ian putting his hand up to his left ear to try to reconcile pitch in his head with pitch on that incredibly loud stage volume. The monitors weren't good so much back in those days and of course now everybody uses in-ear monitors which is a total game changer. But I love how totally chill he is, at the beginning he's like dude, show us what you got on the organ and then let's show the guitar and the bass never got featured much but it's thumping along there and it's so powerful and then of course the drumming is just Stellar on this. And then he starts singing and his voice is every bit as good as it is on the recording. He was an incredible vocalist. He inspired a lot of metal singers. He also I think was in the Broadway performance of Jesus Christ Superstar in the early '70s, which involves some really powerful singing. And then he hops on the harp when he needs to and he's just so laid back, it cracks me up. He's just so good. They all are.

Improvisation - I think that’s the word that you’re looking for. You see it a lot with live performances. Jazz music is mainly improvisation following a certain chord sequence.

Yes , Child In Time , live 1970 , you will love that one , you just might finish breaking your chair !! That one is a definite must hear and see !! But if you want to hear the same version of any Deep Purple song , you'll have to listen to that version again because they won't play the same version again live , each one is a little different !! And again , yes , need to check out Child In Time live 1970 !! And for studio songs , try BURN , or SPEED KING , , enjoy and keep on jammin !!! And yes , Made In Japan is the greatest rock n roll album ever !!!

I think it was Keith Richards of the Rolling Stones who blamed Led Zeppelin for them having to play longer concerts because Zeppelin would play for a couple of hours and fans started expecting it. I think the longest recorded version of Dazed and Confused is 48 minutes, so you can imagine how long their entire set was. Zeppelin were the masters of improvisation. A lot of groups added to their songs, or maybe they shortened them for records 🤔

you mentioned you hadn't decided on which Rush album to jump into: I'm sure many others will be clamoring for this as well, but, I mean, dude, really, you CANNOT go wrong with Side One (Yup, all 20 or so minutes of it) of Rush: 2112." (2 rocks as well!) Bone-crunching, mind-blowing. Of course, "A Farewell to Kings" or "Moving Pictures" or "Fly By Night" or their debut album, called, well, "Rush." Basically, anything by this unbelievably talented trio before, say, 1983 and you're GOLDEN!

Saludos

Rush album, 2112! It's a bit earlier than the stuff you ever acted to but it's their breakout album where the record label said you've got to stop doing all this crazy music and do something that has wide audience appeal or we are going to drop you. This is your last chance. So they took the money and they made Rush 2112. And they just doubled down on what they were doing before but they just really found their groove that was a nice balance between all of it on this one. And the record company hated it until it just started catching on and the sales just started going up and up and up and up. They were like fuck you man we'll do the music we want and it turns out they made the right decision. And so just fast forward not long at all and you've got heading into the 80s, the more modern sounding stuff like subdivisions and Tom Sawyer and XYZ and all that kind of thing. But this particular album side a is a whole concept album with a story and it's wonderful. And then side B is just five individual songs that stand alone, and some of them are just so gentle and wistful and some of them just rock so hard and some of them offer life advice and some of them are funny and it's really top-notch material.

You said everything, when you said, today, all the bands are performing exactly, the same version as in studio! Which is ridiculous! All those legendary bands, from the 60's and 70's, even, early 80's, they were making the studio versions evolving night after night!
