I've watched some of your Videos and this is my fav. I almost use this Video as a sample source for my new Video. Lov the Glocken Sound. Sounds like a heavy Trap sample. Dope.

Thank you so much for this inspiring video! You're right regarding what you said to another commentator: get back to the simple things! I can't wait to mess around with my op-1 (not that I ever need an excuse... I LOVE that little machine). Also, GREAT tonal properties in all of those samples! So cool! Cheers!

One of the COOLEST op-1 videos out there. Right in the middle: Aphex Twin Ambient Works Vol. 2. Can you have different samples assigned to different keys at the same time? Thanks in advance.

This video sold me on the unit and finally received mine, so thank you! But I'm confused by something; when I use the synth engine sampler, the higher notes play the sample back at a proportionately faster speed, presumably to create the higher pitch. Of course lower notes playback slower. So anything with a rhythmic quality to it essentially doesn't match the inherent rhythm of the original sample. How can I change this? Your samples don't seem to behave this way. I have found no answers online just yet.
@StochasticDesign7 жыл бұрын
Hello! Yes, the OP-1 works as most traditional samplers, by pitching the sample up or down. What I usually do with a rhythmic sample (as in the video) is pitch it to the wanted pitch, and match the tempo of the song to the resulting tempo of the sample - or the other way around. An alternative way would be to sample it as a drum kit, and trigger the elements of the sample in sequence, thus making it follow the tempo during playback.

so built in mic that quality?
@StochasticDesign8 жыл бұрын
The built-in mic is quite ok, however the line out can be quite noisy, esp. when recorded sounds are quiet as is evident in the video. End results (lifting the actual files via USB) is better though.

I don't hear any of those "pops" that come from moving stuff around on the tape that folks complain about with the OP-1...do you have to fight those off or do you never get them?
@StochasticDesign8 жыл бұрын
+inyojelly I never had any problem with that. To some extent, I think you have to be careful where you cut the "tape", so that you don't get part of a transient by accident, as that will cause a click.
@FreezerKing8 жыл бұрын
+Stochastic Design That seems like it would be the culprit. The folks on the OP-1 boards were yammering on about "not having envelopes on the cuts" or something being at fault. Not sure. Guess I'll find out when I get my OP-1 in a few weeks
@KuznecovVictor7 жыл бұрын
Apart from your fantastic tut, just curious if there is a way to recall a tape ? I ruined all my tracks doing lift or copy/paste.
@StochasticDesign7 жыл бұрын
Thank you! Sadly, no, you can only save it if you immediately paste back what you lifted, before doing other things. I've messed up quite a few times in the same way.

Alright, where did you get that phone!?!?
@StochasticDesign7 жыл бұрын
These were the standard issue telephones that you got when you signed up for phone service in Sweden back in the 70's and 80's. You can find them on ebay, for instance. (In the beginning, you could only get them in black or gray color as well...)

Hi. Cool stuff. I just got an OP 1. I want to sample. When you say in the video to set 1-8 with sounds. Do you just press the number once you find the sound you want to be on that number? Thanks for any help. Looks like you know what you're doing.
@StochasticDesign7 жыл бұрын
You can view the 1-8 keys as quick keys for favourite sounds or presets - quick press to dial it up, a long press to store the current sound as a preset. Good luck with your OP-1!
@marklevasseur8 жыл бұрын
can I play the op1 with external keyboard ? Thank's for the demo the sound is really beautiful
@StochasticDesign8 жыл бұрын
+jean peudetout Thank you! It is a bit tricky to control the OP-1 via MIDI. Basically you need a controller that can act as a USB host. Easiest is via your computer, otherwise you need a standalone interface, such as TE's own OPLAB.

How does he move the sample to the drum engine though. Trying to chop samples and I can’t seem to figure it out.
@StochasticDesign4 жыл бұрын
You can actually cut ("lift") a piece of "tape" and paste ("drop") it into the drum sampler. Try it!

Stochastic Design no way! That sounds amazing. This thing just keep impressing me. Thanks for the info.

Hey, great video!! How did you get the audio to sound so clear? And what are you're basic levels when recording audio this way?
@StochasticDesign6 жыл бұрын
Hi, and thanks! The final tracks are lifted directly as audio files from the OP-1, but as you can hear, several of the samples turn out quite noisy, to illustrate that it might not be such a problem for the end result, depending on your style. An option with less noise would be to sample through a mic+preamp into the OP-1.

There seems to be a fair amount of hiss...Is it the recording chain or the Op-1?
@StochasticDesign8 жыл бұрын
+C Math The headphone output does exaggerate the hiss present in the (quickly recorded) samples, but we also wanted to show that the final result is much better, when pulling the actual wave files of the recorded performance from the OP-1.

what is this background noise ?
@StochasticDesign6 жыл бұрын
That would be me sampling things at low volume with the built in mic. Amplifying the sounds also amplifies the background noise, but we wanted to show that you can still make an interesting piece even if the samples are somewhat noisy.
