I was once sat on a train to Cambridge back in 1993 when I was in the sixth form, I sat opposite a beautiful girl who had a walkman/discman on, she seemed to be loving the music on the CD, she got off the stop before mine, she never said anything to me, but before she got off the train she scribbled on a piece of paper and handed it to me and then left, it simply said 'Teenage Fanclub, Thirteen. JNx' I never saw her again but from that day on they became my favourite band. Thank you 'JN' wherever you are...

What a beautiful story, somone should make a movie and build the story around that moment ❤️

Probably the best song ever made...it only contains a ten word phrase repeated, musically repetitive for the full 5.20, and it’s only a B side! It shouldn’t work, but I have never tired of this track...it’s genius!

The band whose B-sides are about 10x better than most bands' A-sides.

I learnt a valuable lesson with this track. Always listen to the b-sides! I bought the Ain't That Enough CD single in the late 90s (primarily for Kickabout) but didn't discover this track until 2019.

One of the purest pieces of pop music ever. Minimalist and distilled to its essential melancholy sentiment. Its a work of absolute brilliance. I suspect it was intended for the Grand Prix album and should definitely have been on their instead of Verisimilitude which I find an annoying song on an otherwise killer album.
@joshfinnie8505Ай бұрын
I could be wrong, but I believe the song was written during the sessions for Songs From Northern Britain. Sonically fits on that album very well I would say if it was to end up on that album instead of as a b-side.

The only issue I have with this song is it needs more lyrics. it feels unfinished.
@TheScoppie2 жыл бұрын
I disagree. It barely needs any lyrics. You can tell it’s sad and dejected just from its pace and the chords. And the repeated refrain - well, it speaks to anyone who’s ever been heartbroken, ie everybody. It’s universal, insert your own heartbreak.
