The craziest thing about this movie was that no one had faith that it would be a hit. And then it became one of the most profitable movies of all time. It was very low budget and cost like ten million and made like 300 million. And the reason people loved it was because it was a risk so they just let it be. It was dark, it was true to the original source material and it worked. Then when the sequels came out they just lost faith completely and said "it has to be this and that and the other" and they made it campy and lame and it just fell further and further every time. They even stopped using Jim Henson for the puppetry thinking they could just do it cheaper and be okay because they had the audience... They should have just stuck to what worked and The Turtles franchise could have been fantastic.

The third movie was campy I agree, but the sequel, Secret of The Ooze, is my all time favorite movie. I really liked it, especially since it introduced Tokka and Rahzar.

As many people in the comments are stating, I also went and saw this in the theaters too. After myself, my oldest brother (who drove us to the movie), and my younger brother got settled in our seats; within a few seconds my oldest brother said "hey guys, let's move seats". "Why?", the two of us asked him. "Because someone took a shit on the ground right below us" Sure enough, even in the dark we could make out the silhouette of a log of dookie, and as you leaned your head down closer to look at it, your nostrils definitely got a whiff of it confirming that was indeed shit on the ground below. "Awww sick!!!" and other responses we naturally had, and promptly moved a few rows ahead of us. True story. And thankfully the only time I have ever had that experience. Whenever I see clips of the original Ninja Turtles movie I always think of logs of shit on movie theater floors.
