Well for the Tournament Fighter games in particular, the answer is simple. The SNES has 8 buttons, whereas the Genesis by default only has 4 buttons. This would greatly affect the gameplay. And implementing the punch/kick toggle like the way Capcom did with Street Fighter II Special Champion Edition may not be conducive. And Konami probably what doesn't want to force the 6-button controller on players who may not own one, seeing that only SF2SCE, SSF2, Mortal Kombat, and Eternal Champion are the only games to fully utilize the 6-button pad to full potential.

Konami loved making games between consoles that were not the same between said consoles. It was the same thing with the Famicom/NES and the MSX.

No offense to anyone who likes this but if I had played this instead of the SNES one, I'd probably would've hated this game! It sounds horrible, the character models look bad and I don't understand the tournament aspect of this. Only good thing I see is the Triceriton fight looks like a neat challenge.
