So I’m old now.... I just happen to subscribe to the epitaph channel out of respect for Gurewitz. I thought the band, album, venue, were a trifecta of interesting names worthy of click. These random ‘I’ll give em a shot’ clicks rarely seem to pay off much anymore. I’ll still run back to Nine Inch Nails, Spiritualized, Fiona Apple, Massive Attack, Evidence, El-P, Strung Out, Pennywise and Failure. Every now and then I hear a band like METZ but those canucks are all growns up like Single Mothers (Brett? Sign? Maybe? ). Must say your vocals do sound remind me of your label mate (maybe?) Geoff Rickey of Thursday/United Nations etc. There are some awesome instrumental passages that bring to mind Siamese Dream and Failure’s Fantastic Planet. While Yellowbelly really makes me think of Nada Surf. You’ve got your 3 minute songs and longer tracks with instrumental passages that are always thoroughly engaging and fit in seamlessly. That awesome episode of South Park where Stan has an existential crisis and sees everything as crap after turning 10 and Randy gets into tweenwave. I guess I’ve just been coping with a lot of that. Ice Age is great and young but they are fucking Danes and you’ve got Fontaine’s but they’re from Belfast. You grew up in my environment and managed to have a genre clusterfuckery of unique songs that flow together pretty damn awesomely. I hate the “they sound like (blank)” comparisons when a band is actually distinctive. With that in mind your songwriting reminds me of Jeff Ward of Sparta/At The Drive=In too.... great vocals, no set formula, fuzzy is good, but it’s not masking an inability to play really really well and excellent intros/beginnings to each song. All the artists that popped into my head are pretty good company and it was just a riff or passage. You guys sound like Teenage Wrist. Which is refreshing as fuck. Excessive ramblings....... I dig the Jack Kerouac quote -- The page is long, blank, and full of truth. When I am through with it, it shall probably be long, full, and empty with words.
