@@pjeng1 The explosion had nothing to do with the petrol station. The most likely hypothesis is that a gas cylinder exploded in one of the apartments above the shop. The petrol tanks remained secure throughout the incident.

Following a recent shooting at the Donegal celtic social club on the suffolk road in west Belfast by two gunmen, which police suspect is linked to a number of other murders across the island, a Donegal petrol station has been bombed. I'd think this was an escalation if I didn't know any better. Troublingly should I be mistaken, the hypothetical question of whether orange drugs or sectarianism being at the root of this becomes very real.

The fact that so many people with anti-Irish attitudes have crawled out of the woodwork to comment under every report on this event, attempting to distract, dismiss, and frame the narrative as an Irish person smoking on the forecourt, supplying made-up stories of encounters they did not have to sway casual readers into believing the ignition was caused by irresponsible or arrogant Irish attitudes rather than the involvement of underhanded occupiers with a track record of causing trouble with misdirected hate. This is either orange drugs or sectarianism. I'm leaning toward drugs because the sectarians aren't the most subtle and would have claimed credit by now. Given the location and the lack of forewarning, we can rule out nationalist extremists. With the heavily sectarian northern Irish police curiously involving themselves in a ROI investigation over which they have no jurisdiction and noting their attempts to downplay any foul play in the case, they must know something incriminating that they don't want to share. Inadvertently drawing attention to themselves by protecting their own.

This is a tragic event and it's pretty heartless to suggest sectarian causes before that is established. I'm not sure that this looks like a bombing. It looks like a gas explosion (possibly propane or butane), probably from the shop or forecourt of the fuel station. Luckily the fuel tanks under the forecourt look to have survived intact as they tend to be free of oxygen thus preventing ignition of the contents. The biggest mark of respect to the families and those who have died is to find out the cause and prevent it from happening again. I'm interested in the planning regulations that allow this type of shop to be so close to dwellings.

@@georgebarnes8163 I have a cousin who stayed in one of those flats on a regular basis and he was telling me that flats above the shop all ran on electricity heating, cookers, etc and no gas was in those upper buildings the only place that used gas was the shops deli counter for cooking etc and gas must have leaked into the cavity between the walls and obviously met an ignition point and that's what caused the horrific damage.
