A British teenager has been 'blinded' by eating a diet of nothing but chips, crisps and other junk food for the last 10 years. This has led to a vitamin shortage and caused irreparable damage to his eyesight.
The story
Experts are warning about the dangers of fussy eating. It's after a medical journal reported the case of a 17-year-old who suffered severe damage to his eyesight after living on a diet of chips and crisps since leaving primary school. Tests have revealed he had severe vitamin deficiencies and malnutrition.
Key words and phrases
go (blind)
become (blind)
• I went blind due to a bike accident I had when I was younger.
• When she opened the fridge, the smell made her realise that the milk had gone off.
fussy
not easily pleased regarding certain things
• I can be very fussy about who I date. That's why I'm single. I don't want just anyone.
• He used to be such a fussy eater, but now he's an adult, he'll eat anything.
deficiency
not having enough of something
• Due to excessive use, the Earth could soon have a resource deficiency.
• Due to a deficiency in available staff, the shop will be closing early today.
Language challenge
In US English, they say ‘potato chips’. In UK English, we say:
a) French fries
b) chips
c) crisps

Your use of 'fussy' is very good, but we think the first half of the sentence sounds slightly unusual. How about "I'm feeling pretty poor these days because I'm pretty fussy about which jobs I do, so haven't worked for a little while". Something along those lines...

Hi, in my opinion, I don't think that that guy has gone blind because of the lack of certain food or vitamin deficiency. There are millions of people who don't have enough food around the world and yes those people are suffering many medical problems but they aren't going blind. The world is full of famines. I think that guy, I feel sorry for him, has a genetic problem because bread, chips, and sausage have many vitamins that can compensate his lack of eating vegetables.
