This is why we need to replace that switcher with an advanced Electric switcher so that no kid could get their hand on a physical train switcher because this is very serious business. 😠

A noble idea.But considering that this equipment sits out in the weather for years at a time and may not be serviced for months, it may be better to stick with simple metal levers and mechanisms, rather than complex (and delicate) electronics. Even wires and a battery could short out and refuse to move, or heaven forbid some touch screen device get faulty update and stop working. As much fun as technology is, perhaps security cameras or other monitoring devices would be better. or perhaps a simple logging mechanism that records when the switch is moved, rather than operating the switch electronically.
