A classic. I watch this race over and over again especially when I need motivation. I’ve been a huge fan of Yohan Blake since this very race and have followed him throughout his very lustrous career

the original video is still on youtube. I watch atleast a few times a year. the fact Nellum and Blake were the top sprinters in their countries make it like a movie.

Some background on this race for me. Went to 2005 penn relays and Nellum was a sophomore at that time. They ran 3rd in COA, 4x100 and i believe the 4x400 .In 2006 they had beef at Indoor meet in NY and was on alert. Last minute They chose not to come to Penns in 2006. was there... I could not wait for 2007 and Nellum was a beast then. I was in front row on turn. It was the most incredible feeling I ever had at a sporting event.

I was in the stands and when I tell you it was the race of the meet… IT WAS THE PREMIER RACE OF THE ENTIRE WEEKEND. Great race.

You won't see collegiate athletes cheering for a high school race too often! This was one of them. This is my all-time favorite HS 4x400 at Penn. Also loved the Obea Moore anchored races.

Bryshon is so talented that it is so unfortunate that incident with his legs derailed his career. Yet I’m still looking for him and Yohan Blake ( the St. Jago anchor) rematch! Two very determined track champion stars!!

Bryshon's 3rd year at penn relays in hs. The Jamaicans were giving poly a hard time with the rude comments "your wasting your time, you should have just stayed at the beach." Sending there atheltes to intimidate poly. But coach Don Norford told them to tune them out and leave it on the track and thats exactly what the boys did. Anybody who was there will tell you when the gun went off the stadium was drowned by the sound from the crowd you couldnt hear the announcer or yourself speak The Jamaicans ran the 400m different sprinting the 300m then died like dogs in the straight having nothing left. Evant Orange the 3rd leg for poly paced himself then made his move at the 150 just like the coaches told him. After the race people were thanking and shaking hands with the poly boys and coaches "OMG THANK YOU THANK YOU!! THANK YOU FOR BEATING THEM." The crowd hasn't been that loud since then.Till this day this race gives me chills. Poly 48.1 Hughes 48.1 Green 48.4 Orange 45.2 Nellum St Jago 47.5 Hilton 48- Ashmede 49.6 45.3 Blake

Except when our high schoolers compete at the U20 champs the US high schoolers always seem to be triumphant ESPECIALLY in the boys and girls 4x4 relay. 🤷🏽‍♂️🇺🇸

You are absolutely right. In 2010 or 11 one of the 2 years they came close. 2008 poly had a 4x400 that ran sloppy in the finals running 3:14 in the prelims then 3:18 in the finals, 09 was an off year running a seasons best of 3:21

UPenn track was initially 6 lanes but they wanted to expand the track. They couldn't build any outer lanes so they expanded the track by building 4 inner lanes, which are less than 400 meters. Thats why after the staggered start the runners move to lane 5 which is 400 meters.
