I was a russ this year, had a lot of fun! One thing they didn’t mention is that there is also several festivals around the country only for the people who are Russ. And people travel from all over the country to go to these festivals. The biggest one is in Stavanger (where I live), and from Friday to Sunday there are 16.000 Russ gathered together partying. Big artists and dj’s are preforming at this festival so it is a big deal. This year we had g-easy, martin Garrix, French Montana and Macklemore + many more! It was INSANE!!

I think she sort of misunderstands what is being described. The only thing we really do in Denmark is go around in a bus or sometimes a truck or horse-drawn carriage and drink. Typically takes a couple of days. She heard "bus" and thought, yeah that's the same.

It's also worth mentioning that the kids who asks for the cards collect them and use them as trading cards at school. Russes have different colors depending on the type of school they're attending, which of course means there are more say red russ than there are green russ. So if you had a thick stack of green russ cards in 5th grade, you were the coolest kid in class. I had a 4 foot stack of cards at one point but I gave it all away to a friend

You can clearly se refferences to russ in the 1731 play Erasmus Montanus by Ludvig Holberg. Clearly the russ actually have their origins in denmark in the first place, though the way in which we celebrate has changed since then of course. Notice how they said that the partuing in Norway dated from 1905. You know the year Norway got indipendance from sweden. Not a coincidence.

also each russe group get custom made songs for their buss or group. so every year there are a variety of new songs that belong to each group, the songs and busses also compete in becoming that years buss/group for here they are from :) They have big arrangments all over norway, one day/night they have a whole amusment park for russ with conserts later in the evening. and so on and so on

I'm more a fan of the direction it's headed compared to how it currently is. The decrease in lawbreaking behavior and excessive drinking is nice. I'm 57 and was a russ when I was young. And my daughter is 25, she was having a blast on her celebration as russ. Then went into the military after. Police in Norway celebrated as russ too, all of them, so they understand. 😊
