Most of the people trying to gain citizenship or asylum are completely innocent people just looking for better, safe life, and yet a large percentage of Americans don’t believe they should be here. They don’t realize that we aren’t special. All we are is lucky enough to have been born here. We did nothing to deserve being born in a country like America. But that citizenship makes people think they have the right to judge people who fought to make it to our border. That citizenship that they’ve done nothing to earn or deserve makes them think they have the right to send people back to a country they fought to break free from even if sending them back signs their death warrant. Americans can be truly evil sometimes… especially towards people who actually deserve to be here.

it's the same with every social safety net. people want to scrap the whole thing because of a tiny fraction who take advantage of it, with no concern to the overwhelming majority being sentenced to death without it. if it were up to me every person who crossed the border by whatever means and even verbally claimed asylum would be allowed to stay in a safe house while their background is checked and a sponsor is located.
@Sniperboy555110 ай бұрын
@dietotaku But the overwhelming majority of asylum seekers aren’t political refugees. I would argue 90% of those who enter this country illegally are just doing it for better financial opportunity, but they shouldn’t get to cut in front of people who are immigrating the right way.
@gwynn4thewynn9 ай бұрын
@@Sniperboy5551 while most move for financial opportunity, its not 90% nor is it the sole reason they came... Things like repressive governments & unsafe conditions are a huge factor as to why people immigrate here, marking over 50% of them. Other reasons like education and better futures for their children are also reasons why people immigrate, a little over 75% of immigrants move here for those reasons. My grandma came to this country on a makeshift raft with 20 other people to escape the brutality of her country where she had to rush to the shore of Florida before the Coast guard caught them. It's easy to think its as simple as money but sadly its just not the case. Especially when our country is far from one of the best when it comes to paying even born American citizens a livable wage. There are plenty of countries with far better economic structures that would happily take in immigrants but the simple fact of the matter is- Our main migrants are Hispanic/Latino, 9/10 times, when people speak poorly of immigrants, they are speaking of these people. Many of our bordering countries that bring in Hispanic/Latino migrants have faced horrible conditions. Cuba as an example was in political crisis for decades, people forced to flee in fear of being executed. I was well into elementary school before things even slightly calmed down in Cuba. My cousin died because he foresaw what giving safe passage would do to my hometown and it’s people and he refused, since his death my hometown has become a place where deaths are and everyday thing, in less than 2 years I have lost 15 family members and childhood friends,I live in fear of the phone getting news about another death,my parents and sister still live there so I know is only a matter of time to receive my most feared phone call.

I used to be a proud conservative, but it’s this new bigotted conservative ideology that gets people killed and will continue to get people killed. Your cousin should have been offered asylum. And while he was waiting for his hearing he would be placed in a holding center (which need to be revamped too. It’s not supposed to feel like a freaking prison.), or released to family often with ancle monitor until his hearing. But either way, he should have been here. Safe. I’m sorry that the country you speak so highly of failed you and your cousin. It makes us no better than the people who took over your hometown and began killing people that they decided deserved it. That’s literally what this country did to your cousin, and I am so so sorry. The only thing Americans did differently than you and your relatives is that we were lucky enough to be born here. That’s it. We did nothing to deserve that blessing, and as such, we should be doing what we can to help those that weren’t as lucky. Good luck to you my friend. I know this is just a TV show, but stories like this, and worse, happen every day. A few years ago a man applies for asylum during the dumpster fire that was Trump’s America. He was the Sheriff of a very small safe town deep in Mexico. The cartel came through and wanted to be allowed to start coming through while the government turned a blind eye. This man refused, because as the sheriff he has seen what the cartel’s impact had had on other towns where they were active, and he refused to actively put the people’s lives at risk in his own town. Obviously the cartel didn’t take this well, and his life was I’m very real danger so he came to America where he applied for asylum. Under any other presidency he would have been approved, obviously. That what asylum is there for. When his petition was denied, out of sheer desperation he crossed illegally. Now I know the MAGA crowd will lose their minds and go into an uproar about the illegal part, but it’s pretty easy to judge when your life isn’t at risk, and your not just risking your own life, but your also risking your friends and family being tortured and killed if you go back. He crossed with a group during the hottest part of summer, and only a couple people in his group survived the crossing and he arrived in America very very I’ll due to severe dehydration and heat poisoning. After just few days the U.S. government sent ICE agents to the hospital where they arrested him, transported him to the airport, and despite knowing about his request for asylum and the very real reality that he would likely be murdered if he was sent home all because HE DID THE RIGHT THING and stood up to the cartel, because he had the character qualities we claim to hold in such high esteem, when he got off the plane at the airport closest to his town he was gunned down and shot eight times while still on the tarmac and died. They did it like that to show people what happens if you stand up to the cartel. He has family that live in the U.S. legally. Family that would have taken care of him and provided for him financially. Like the vast majority of people trying to immigrate legally, he wouldn’t have been a burden on us. He would have been a positive impact on this country. But we’re selfish. And we think that we’re special because we were lucky enough to have been born here. We did nothing to deserve our citizenship, and yet so many people in this country think that because we were lucky enough to be born here by the grace of God, we should be allowed to decide other people’s fate. You would think that because we were given the blessing to be Niemeyer in a place like America, whether we deserve that gift or not, we would want to give that gift of safety to others as well. It’s incredibly sad that we let these things happen when we have the power to keep them from happening.
