I had inflammation on my gums at one point. Switched to electric toothbrush with soft bristles twice a day and started flossing at least once per day. Mouthwash once a day but not necessarily as you stated. My gum pockets came right down and are nice and strong with no bleeding anymore. It does work, I have witnessed it myself. Please take care of your mouth people it is very important and will prevent even harder and costly procedures in the future.

So far no more cavities and each cleaning has been no bleeding and not much scraping. In the morning the brush and rinse. At night I pre rinse, floss, brush and use a fluoride rinse.

I've been following you for years and I've been sharing videos with my family! Here's my routine right now. ☀️Morning * Brush with fluoride(/some new tech for enamel remineralising) Toothpaste * Tongue scraper * Mouthwash (anti gum disease) 🌃Night * Mouthwash (anti gum disease) * Floss (gum Angled floss sticks) * Brush * Tongue Scraper I started using a dedicated tongue scraper because of your channel and i noticed my mouth still feeling and smelling fresh the next morning. From a variety of videos and personal experience with my teeth, i do the 45 degree gum aimed brush sweep from gum line to teeth tip (instead of brushing up and down), then i do a 45 degree aimed at gum, wiggle in one place brushing (not dragging my brush side to side). Circle brushing without flossing made me develop more plaque than up-and- down drag brushing without flossing. (I think my dentist told me to circles on my first visit 12 years ago, where i only need a mild cleaning after doing up and down once a day, no flossing for 18 years😅) I've since discovered different dentists have their own ideas of optimal technique. I added flossing because you talk about the importance of it a lot, enough for me to do more research and buy string floss but i could never make that into a habit. But now that I've bought y shaped floss Sticks, I've been able to stick to it. And now I'm a floss Evangelis😊. also never want to do deep cleaning ever again😅 I try to brush before the first meal, you mentioned in a video/short that in your patients, the least problems you see is the before-breakfast brushers, i had the hypothesis that it's because they've swept away some bacteria that built up overnight before adding sugar/carbs to their mouth. feeding the bacteria is the precursor for lactic acid production, if there's less of them there, over *many* years, the daily tiny amount of lactic acid production that you prevent from being in contact with your teeth by reducing bacteria count before breakfast may add up?

What are your thoughts about flouride in water if your not suppose to be ingesting it?
@TeethTalk
@TeethTalk 9 ай бұрын
the toxicity is in the dose. eating a full tube of toothpaste (which is not meant to be consumed) is different than the regulated levels put in water. fluoride in water is one of the most successful public health initiatives in reducing the amount of tooth decay in kids. unfortunately some social media has demonized it, but it is a naturally occurring mineral -- not a toxin. those who claim it's a toxin forget that anything can be toxic at a certain dose. you would need to drink 57 liters of water in one day to hit toxicity. hope this helps!

I’m working on a daily routine, but so far I’ve made a pretty good plan for myself after a couple years of talking with my dental hygienist and dealing with my sensitive teeth that suddenly became very prone to cavities no matter how well I brush. My plan that I wanna do is water picking (especially at the back of my gums cuz it’s the current area that has any issues still after some work), then brushing with my prescription grade toothpaste given by the dentist that has extra fluoride (I need to get an electric tooth brush), spitting out the toothpaste without rinsing then I wanna manual floss to push the tooth paste down between my teeth and just floss in general, and usually rn I just brush my tongue as best as I can and spit it out. If I wanna use my act mouthwash, I either do it at the beginning or use it when I slip on my routine and want to at least do something.

Thank you! And some patients like to use them! I don't usually recommend unless I see severely puffy gums that are not improving. I've found the combination of electric TB, water flosser, and floss usually helps enough! But it can't hurt to add stimulators to routines as long as you're using them properly :) Always ask your personal hygienist what they think is best for your individual mouth :)

This is going to sound like such a dumb question, but please bear with me... I have a vile disease called Trigeminal Neuralgia - the most painful known condition and in the facial nerve. Yay. And I've been considering a plaque remover, but do they hurt? In context, I use a prescription-only super-high fluoride toothpaste (every commercial one burns like a mofo) can't use mouthwash, can only floss sometimes, waterpick made me pass out...sometimes I have to just rub the toothpaste on and call it a day. So I have to be crazy careful and things that ordinarily don't hurt are dangerous to those of us with borkbrain. I have learned to tolerate a Sonic toothbrush - it took awhile! - so does the plaque remover feel like a toothbrush (sometimes tolerable) or a waterpick (absolute NO) cos I can't work out quite what they are? It's not something I can painkiller my way out of - it's impervious to even morphine - and the various meds/jaw spasms/general drama has lost me several teeth already. I don't want to lose any more and dental treatment is a hospital job and very limited - can't have root canals, crowns, implants or even fillings on the gum line. Best I can do is keep things stable and I don't know anyone who uses one so would really appreciate some know-how. Thanks muchly 🤗

@scienceevolves4417
@scienceevolves4417 4 ай бұрын
Exactly. It makes sense to be brushing AFTER every food intake, as we don't want to have food particles and residues left in the mouth for all day long. Quite aside from the fact no one should be eating any breakfast, and 1 max. 2 meals within 6-8 hours is all that is needed. I think her advice is ridiculous frankly, especially if it's coupled with the lack of knowledge on nutrition and intermittent fasting which are absolutely vital to our health.❤

@@lshulman58 yeah I heard that saying, it is a common misconception.... I bet you also believe 5 (smaller) meals and not including snacking spread over a day is sensible? 😅 I mean no one should have any breakfast ever. Even as the name suggests you're literally "breaking fast" which is what keeps your body and mind healthy and in good working order. Not to mention that for an average person it takes a good 1-2 hours after sleep until their metabolism kicks in. So, I don't know about you, but I don't fancy waking up in the morning at least 3 hours before I'm supposed to start work, because I'd rather enjoy an extra couple hours sleep than take a breakfast.🙂

Why would my dentist leave the black rings behind my teeth everytime I go for a cleaning?. Now she is calling the black rings for 6500.00 in work. But she needed a year off of work so I am definitely taking a that long vacation as a possible and probable need for the extra money. That long of a vacation can’t come cheap. However, she broke my tooth and then tried to have me pay for said tooth. I go back, she leaves black rings on the back of my teeth and then claimed my teeth looked great, nothing wrong at all. Wrong with me though! When I called to get my 6 month check up she’s 1.5 years out due to vacation. I go back yesterday. She wants lots of money for the same healthy teeth 1.5 years ago. (According to her, not me remind you) They look better than they did then. I’m so confused why a dentist wouldn’t clean the entirety of the tooth. Or if it just not that big of a deal that I am making it.

I didn't know about using the antiseptic mouthwash before flossing/brushing, I'm gonna try that out. I normally use that mouthwash after brushing my teeth in the morning, then use anticavity mouthwash after brushing before going to bed.

It’s also important to be careful about what mouthwash you’re using. Non alcoholic and non acidic mouthwashes are much better, I’m not sure if you know so just thought I’d mention it but some mouthwashes (particularly the anti septic ones) can be highly acidic and brushing that into your teeth is doubly as bad!

I use a water flosser right at the end of my day to remove any debris inside my mouth and then I start to use a regular floss…then I brush for 3minutes and use a tongue brush and finish with mouthwash…..and the next morning I just brush and mouthwash. I use Closys mouthwash because regular mouthwash burns my tongue

I had a cracked tooth at the back of my mouth so the dentist fixed it with bonding. However the bonding material he also put on like 3-4 teeth before the cracked one and I can feel it with my tongue it’s also quite thick I didn’t need the bonding on all the other teeth. So when I bite down my left side where he put bonding protrudes and my left side (no bonding) has a gap!!! So when I eat on the right side the bonding is just uncomfortable on the left side and now when I close my teeth the right side where he bonded is thick and uncomfy!!! I hope he can reduce it or remove it coz he didn’t need to put it over my teeth where I chew ffs!!

I'm not sure if there's another place to ask questions or if you even have an answer but I need to vent so... I had tooth pain on and off for a couple months and I finally went and saw a dentist who only did a consultation as a one-time thing because they don't take my insurance. They took x-rays and I was told that I need two teeth removed and another tooth needs either a root canal or to be removed. My insurance doesn't cover root canals and I have no income. I also live alone. I have called over a dozen general dentist in my area and at least four oral surgeons. Several but not all of which were recommended by my company when I call the number on my card. I only found one person who is willing to pull three teeth that excepts my insurance. I just found out they might ask for a deposit at time of service. I plan on calling them when they open tomorrow and if they're going to require a deposit I have to cancel this appointment. If that happens I don't know what else to do but give up. And because one of the teeth needs either a root canal or to be removed I'm terrified I'm going to end up with sepsis. I also can't brush until it's taken care of because it hurts so bad.

@SamanthaBCope so sorry for all your trouble & pain. You might see if there is a dental school near you that allows students to work on your teeth at a low cost or no cost. Also might check on Physicians Mutual Dental insurance. I understand it is very reasonable. Good luck & hope you find relief soon.

Use the mouthwash after brushing and then wait 30 mins to eat or drink anything. Don’t rinse after anticavity mouthwash, only spit after 👍🏼 hopes this helps

How many times shd I scrape my toung in a day??
@mitchelace5
@mitchelace5 Жыл бұрын
I usually tounge scrape, rinse with Biotene and then brush with Stannous Fluoride toothpaste. And then spit and LEAVE it alone to work. I use Sensodyne Repair and Protect Deep Repair. I only add the steps of flossing with piks and using perio protect trays only at night. I do have 3 crowns on 3 root canal teeth, so I use string around those.

Stannous is a metal, Tin to be precise. I would stick with Sodium Fluoride

here's my video all about that -- hope this helps: kzbin.info/www/bejne/oZfPXmWbZpKiZ8U but quick answer is... the product will say on the label directions (it's usually 30 mins) so just check the individual toothpaste box.

I brush, floss and rinse with listerine ( I actually use the generic equivalent ) only once a day before bed and I haven't had any new cavities in the last 20 plus years I've been doing it. I oftentimes will rinse with the antiseptic in the morning to freshen my mouth. At night I rinse with my head down back and fourth for 3 minutes min. A dentist told me this once and now I know why MOST dentists DON'T tell this to their patients (they get paid for fixing problems NOT preventing them )

For the anti cavity mouthwash, do you have any recommendations for adults who HATE mint? Literally can’t stand any version of mint (in anything), so I am currently using the ACT Kids Mouthwash (bubblegum flavor), which I hope has the same ingredients and does the same thing as the adult ones. I’m pretty sure it contains fluoride. Either way, the whole mint thing just isn’t going to happen, tbh. Also, currently using the fruit flavor kids flossers (floss picks) for that same reason. The lack of flavor choices for adult dental products is pretty disappointing.

YESSS! I hear you! ACT is my go-to for non-mint flavored mouthwash! And also cocofloss has great options for the traditional string floss! it's totally okay to use kid-dental products (such as toothpaste and mouthwash) as long as they are NOT fluoride-free. hope this helps!

Doesn't a water flosser after brushing defeat the purpose of the toothpaste by rinsing it away? You say it's only a big deal if you are prone to cavities but said right before that you only need to use a water flosser if you're prone to cavities
