I have just realized that I do not speak ANY form of English. I speak American! I was reading a book about the Black Country and wanted to "hear" the accent. These videos were great for helping me not only hear the accent but realize that these sayings are some of the most commonsense things I've ever heard. Thank you for the education and the laughs!!

When I first moved to The Black Country in 1977 it really was like hearing a foreign language. It took me best part of 3 years carrying a note book wtth me, listening particularly to the old guys in the pubs, asking tham what words and phrases meant, like "Yow wan sum suck" "Own bin ya" "yom saft" and so on. Now I can spake it like a native. Quirky but great people, may the language last forever

I come from Redditch which is still in the West Midlands but with a distinctly different accent. But we used to say "All around the Wrekin" and some other expressions here.

Great vid! First thought they were outsiders trying to make sense of the phrases, then I realized they all knew (except for the one woman who'd never heard some of the phrases) perfectly well what was said. It was trying to say it in something closer to RP that was difficult. Brilliant!
