John is now 72. I think Covid has already finished his career. You have to see him live to see how great he is in almost any genre of singing. He had number one albums in five consecutive decades. You need to watch him sing Help with the Melbourne Symphony Orchestra.

all these guys came to Australia at about 5 years old - John from Dagenham near London, Jimmy from Glascow, Diesel from Massachusetts. I guess with their parents musical experiences they brought together music from a lot of genres, then added an Aussie touch.

I had the privilege of meeting Johnny Farnham at Brisbane Airport in 2000. I was in the Army, in uniform on my way Overseas. I went over to just say G'day and shake his hand (Very nervously I might add!). Instead of me ranting about how much I adored growing up with his music, he stopped & spent 5min telling me HE was honored to meet ME? and proceeded to wish me luck & generally made it about myself & what me & fellow Soldiers were doing! What a class act, true blue Ozzie Legend!

I can understand how you felt David - he would have been genuine with his respect for you - he's always been a nice guy - I had a photo taken with him at the Warana parade in 1969 after he won King of Pop when he was really young- at the time I was the most recent 'Belle of Ball' Brisbane City Council recipient - the previous 4 years recipients were there too but I got to cuddle in next to him for the photo shoot 😂- he was such a shy guy back then - very humble- still have the photo and my 'Belle' sash - great memories 👍🏿

I also met John Farnham at an airport...Sydney this time. I was coming out of a toilet and he was running in to be able to relieve himself AND make the flight call. I opened the door and bowled him over. He got up and apologized. He was on his way to a Carols by Candlelight (early 70's). I saw him on the flight, and apologized back, and he kicked his manager out of his seat, sent him to my seat, and we chatted for an hour or so. A genuine down-to-earth legend.

The guy playing the guitar is Johnny Diesel ( real name Mark Lazot) who also had a band called Johnny Diesel and the injectors and is Jimmy's brother in law. John was the good boy of Aussie music also. I have had the pleasure of being around both John and Jimmy and they are truly amazing men with so much knowledge to share. John and Jimmy are great mates and they did this song based purely on that mateship. The guitarist (Deisel) and Jimmy Barnes are brothers in law. The show they performed this on was a live Saturday night show called Hey Hey it's Saturday, which was pretty much an anything goes show, with live music and puppets that said things they'd never get away with today. John Farnham (the blonde dude) is Australia's best ever pop singer, lauded by the likes of Celine Dion, Tom Jones, Quincy Jones and Freddie Mercury. He's been performing since the 1960s and is still singing in his 70s! Superb voice with outstanding vocal range. Jimmy Barnes has a different - more rock - voice but such an icon in Aussie music. Not quite as successful as John, but still wildly loved by Aussies with iconic hits. When these two got together on this, it was a superb mix of their voices but you can see not only their talent but their passion and joy for music. This was live too. What you heard is what they do. Very proud of our Aussie boys (even though they were both born in the UK and moved to Australia as young children with very different backgrounds).

One of the golden eras of Australian music. The sound studios were filled to the roof with world class engineers. Artists rose straight to top of the world. One of the most underestimated music countries by the USA! The crews, sound systems and venues used to blow them away. Came expecting hick towns - found Sydney, Melbourne etc gol gold gold! Music is a rich vein in Australia, but Covid-19 has decimated the industry and our government is indifferent at best. The likes of Farnsey and Barnsey are obviously legends in Australia and probably financially stable by now (Aussie music industry is measured in $1000's, not $1,000,000's) but right now almost nobody is working outside their home studio. $0.02
