When I met my wife in '95 (she's Irish, emigrated to Australia in 1981) she had never heard Cold Chisel. She knew Barnesy's solo stuff, but didn't know he was in a band before that. Imagine growing up without knowing Cold Chisel. After Paul Kelly, Don Walker is unquestionably Australia's greatest songwriter. John wanted to work overseas and tried to break the OS market with little river band however he is a solo performer and working in a band didn’t work out for many reasons…. Which explains turning down Queen, HOWEVER as we all know Freddy was a bit of a one man show too when he wanted to be so it could have worked out. Barnesy also talks of his relationship with Farnham and in particular how the pair got horribly drunk during a video shoot for their hit, When Something is Wrong With My Baby. “I drank two bottles of vodka and he drank a bottle of brandy,” Barnes says. “He was maggoted.” After filming, a limousine drove Farnham to his house, about 30 minutes away. “Then, an hour and a half after we had finished, we got a call from the limo driver saying John didn’t know where he lived,” Barnes says. “People think John is Mr Straight, but he’s full-on.”

Jimmy is historically a rocker so that’s what you can expect mostly from him but this duet was from an album he released in the early nineties titled Soul Deep. As the name suggests, he decided to switch things up a little and foray into a different genre releasing an album of covers of great soul songs with his own twist. Different from what he was hugely popular for but I think he nailed it.

So the story is that John is regarded as the clean cut good boy of Aussie rock and Jimmy as the bad boy (often seen drinking straight from the bottle on stage at concerts) but apparently as Jimmy says when they got together in John's studio, John not only kept up with but drank Jimmy under the table haha
@kazhausler34302 жыл бұрын
Jimmy had a hard upbringing.. A movie made about it as Jimmy wrote the book.. Grew up with these boys from Elizabeth in South australia in the late 60's and 70's! Would travel 100 ks to hang out as my brother was also a muso.. Jimmy was from Scotland.. John from English parents. Jimmy has a brother Ross Wilson who you need to check out too. Jimmy was front man for Cold Chisel.. Check that out.. Those were his bad boy days before he met Jayne his wife.. They are still married.. In love and very happy.. As are John and his wife Jill!! Johns back up singers were the famous Lindsay Childs and Venetta his wife.. Awesome backup and worked with all these boys for a long time! Im proud to be an Aussie! Bon Scott ex front man of AcDc.. Died too young but you need to check out his vocal range too.. Another scottish immigrant.. These boys could sing and still do but Bon. His music lives on and will never be forgotten! Check them out! ♥️ ♥️ ♥️ ♥️ ♥️

The best thing about John and Jimmy is how down to earth and humble they are. Both had life hardships, a tough childhood for Jimmy and John struggled with finding his place in the late 70's/early 80's music scene. Through all this, both have remained married to their wives, whom they both adore. Their love stories amazingly survived the headiness of their success. A true testimony to their true character. Jimmy wrote his memoirs, Working Class Boy and then Working Class Man, and there is an accompanied live show of Jimmy telling stories. Well worth looking for!!
