I've owned this exact fryer for about 2 yrs, it is good but the word "self cleaning" is false advertising in my opinion. Yes it drains the oil through the strainer, so cleans the oil of chunky yucky bits which enables you to re use the oil but you still have to pull entire inner tray, heat element etc apart and clean it by hand in the usual way (hot soapy water). One big tip, do NOT loose the plug for the oil tray, you will not be able to every get another one. I know others who have lost it, contacted Tefal to request buying a replacement, to be told no, it's not possible. It is a good deep fryer though, it cooks well, heats up in reasonable time and it holds more food than many many other brands I compared it to.
@Shazvana6 жыл бұрын
I forgot to say, be very careful with how you place the lid up/down as those silicone bits that help with stopping yuck getting into the oil, break off very quickly. This is something I knew from all the research I did before I bought mine and I was super-duper careful but with in a couple of months, it was the first thing to break.

You can use solid fry oil and stick it in the fridge or deep freezer. When you’re ready to use it just stick the plastic container in a bath of hot water and when it’s liquid pour it back into the fryer. If it wasn’t for the metal logo and its size it could have been better designed to fit an average microwave oven (I think that would have been smarter)

Firstly, well done Steve on using the magic stock phrase "everything in moderation". I watched a US review of the US version of this fryer. The presenters were really overweight and were waxing lyrical about frying anything and everything at all times of day and for the slightest reason. Everyone loves fried food, but excess of anything has serious health consequences, so it's great to see you start this video with a warning. No such warnings were given by the advertorial presenters in the US review, obviously due to a profit before people mentality. I have just bought this fryer at the weekend, after around 35 years without one. I have struggled to convince wife number 2 to allow this in the house, but I got this for Fathers Day by buying it myself. As I have always said, there is nothing quite like home made chips, and I have wanted to make some for 7 years! I did make them, 7 years ago, but it was on the cooker in a large pan and was so much hassle. I used this on Saturday, when we had a World Cup party. I used it to fry 2 bags of frozen samosas, which is hardly and economic use of funds, given it's £101.99 in the UK. However, they were cooked fantastically well, indicating the efficiency of the thermocouple and heating element being actually in the oil rather than underneath the oil "tank". I had read on Amazon that the way to avoid mess/drips when filtering is to let it do it overnight. Therefore, I waited 3 hours as per the instructions for it to cool down, and then started the filtration. In the morning, the oil was in the box, nothing was dripping when I removed the oil box and the oil tank in the fryer was virtually dry of oil. The oil in the box "looked" crystal clear, through the blue translucent plastic. One thing I am curious about, and perhaps another owner may know this, but I it possible to separate the oil box base from the lid to clean it in the dishwasher. It looks pretty pointless to put it in the the dishwasher if you can't! Anyway, the oily components were put in the dishwasher and came out as good as new and it was reassembled. This Tefal model makes owning a fryer far easier and with less cleaning up after.

Thanks Peter, I have a love hate relationship with Fryers, some things just work well with a good deep fry but the smell of frying and the health issues are always a concern. I glad you appreciate that I am far from Advocating this product but as fryers go, it seems one of the better ones. The Blue box comes apart, lid from base for very easy cleaning by the way. It's amazing it doesn't split apart when filled with Oil, but it seems rock solid.. You'll find you can just turn it to drain after the cooking, the Thermostat valve stops the Oil from draining into the blue box until it has cooled, kinda cool. There are somethings I have come not to like about the fryer but nothing yet that might have changed my Purchase. Good luck Steve

I've just been looking at getting a new fryer having had my old Breville one for the past 10 years or so. The three things I like about this product are the tray at the bottom to easily dispose of the oil and the fact that it cooks in less oil with its wider basket in relation to my deeper basket sitting in 5 litres of oil. The other bonus is that it takes less oil so you're saving yourself a few quid. Now let me point out some of the bad points about it I do not like. Well the first is not really a bad point and it's more of a useless point and that is the window on the lid. My Breville fryer has the same sort of lid with a window but whenever you are frying you are not supposed to put the lid on anyway and I would not even advise putting the lid back on until an hour or so after the fryer has completely cooled itself down, otherwise you will be left with stains all over the window. My biggest gripe with the fryer is where things become a lot more difficult to clean and this goes for every one of these types of oil fryers as far as I know of and that is the heating element sitting in the oil itself. Now you would have thought by now that somebody would have come up with the same idea that they use with Kettles these days where the element no longer sits in the water and is underneath a plate at the bottom. Until they do that I still think the old fashioned way of frying your chips in a big saucepan with a basket is the cleanest way of them all and a damn sight easier than cleaning these bloody things up 😊😊😊. I might just have to go back to that method and it's damn site cheaper than spending near enough a hundred quid on this thing. By the way, I enjoyed the review and the look at the product Steve and well-done chap.
@Steve-Owens3 жыл бұрын
Nice comment Lee, The Element comment is particularly true. I suspect this innovation will eventually crawl into the Mainstream, Kettles are definitely leading the way in that respect. Deep Fryers are falling out of favour, which I suspect adds to their snail like evolution. Kettle on the other hand are evolving in leaps (well relatively LOL)
@LeeLucas3 жыл бұрын
@@Steve-Owens I must admit there are lots of fryers these days that hardly use any oil at all and are much cleaner to use. Though I honestly do not rate them because they make chips and fries taste like cardboard and they come out like oven chips which also taste like cardboard LOL...

High Steve, Great review you did here. I just bought this, I have 2 questions, Can the oil dribble through to the plastic container when it's boiling hot or does it need to be cooled down for a few hours. Also, I bought this because it was bigger than my 3 liters one and I have a big family, so I thought I could fill this up to the top of the basket with fries , but it seems that the oil level is going only halfway up the basket, I feel that I need to add at least another liter of oil for this to cook the amount that I need to cook. just need to look at the plastic container when filtering so I don't overflow, I guess.

They are whatever you want to call them Nigel. with the US market not even using the term Chip for a French Fry, you would be hard pressed to force them to agree with you. A plastic storage container box for oil?
@voluntarism3354 жыл бұрын
It waits for the oil to cool before it starts filtering the oil. The machine does not need to be on while doing this. Once you are done frying just set the temp to 0 turn off, unplug then set straight to filtration. It will wait until the oil is cool enough for the plastic container to handle. After a few hours once the oil is drained you simply take out the inner tray drain the remaining excess oil into a jar and then grab paper towels and wipe the inside of the tray and throw it in the bin. Then you handwash it with soap or throw it into the dishwasher. The only thing that cannot go into the dishwasher is the heating element with those metal rods that heat up the oil everything else is dish washable though. There is no better oil deep fryer on the market and you only get the 3.5L one and not bother with the smaller version. This product is basically perfect those negative reviews are those of people who received defective product but this happens in all industries nowhere will you ever find that in any electronics that there is never a defect it happens with Oleds, Graphics cards, Laptops, Monitors. It comes with a warranty for manufacturer defects anyways. I do recommend this one above all others simply because all of it is washable but mainly because it filters the oil and you can reuse it several times saving you on oil.

My dear friend, I was at a dollar store and noticed french frie seasoning. Wouldn't that be a nice video to post? I don't know if you have one in your libraries or can reverse engininier one you like. Similar to your basic BB Que rub that I followed and took the liberty of making my take buds smile (One lady sends me $30 for a quart and I use it on various grilled meats in Lou of worstershire sauce!). Your homemade ketchup is the bomb, please add link for it and the famous fries for new subscribers. Just a thought from Oklahoma and as always, take care from Oklahoma Mike and Vee

I owned three different deep fryers so far in my lifetime. And that this is definitely the last one I would own if I ever bought it, simply because, all of the parts that come in to contact with the oil,) with the exception of the heating element (can go in the dishwasher. And, it’s all stainless steel. I had The DeLonghi Roto fry deep fryer, That which is also self cleaning in the sense that it has a hose to pump out the oil back into its original container, that what you bought it in and that you can get filters, that which you can put over the container to collect any debris that gets into your oil. And that you don’t need very much oil, as when you put the basket into the fryer, you only put enough oil in the down side of the fryer, as whatever you’re frying is supposed to go in and out of the oil so that less oil, supposedly gets less saturated. With that said though, there are some disadvantages to this product. First, only the basket is dishwasher safe. And second, while you can get filters to line up to remove any debris from the oil, they’re kind of tricky to use. Yes you can drain the oil out using a hose, that which is built-in. The hose basically allows you to put your oil back into its original container, that what you bought it in. However, that oil still needs to be filtered out. One thing I know about TFal, Is that all of their products are made in France. At least, I remember seeing a commercial for all of their products and I remember a commercial announcer saying, “TFal! Made in France!“ And if that’s really true, even with those deep fryers, even with the one that you’re using in this video, anything made in France, Germany, Italy Japan or even here in the United States of America where I live, it’s much better than something made by a chink in China. I’m not trying to be offensive to anyone. I’m just trying to illustrate a point, because unless the designers are really keeping an ion things in China, you might as well kiss your design and quality goodbye.

The fine mesh on the lid breaks down and ends up in your food ad in the fryer. I notified T-Fal and told them about the defect and said it was up to me to notice the defect before I ate it. They clearly know about the defect but it was up to me not to eat the fine metal fibers apparently. My intention was to notify them about the problem to change it for the future and instead of a thank you, they decided to take offence and blame me. Well, that's it for them. Never have I been prosecuted for a failed product by any company, nor was I looking for compensation.

I don’t know what you mean by lay off the c Word. It has been several months ever since I made a comment on this video. You should’ve sent me a comment right away back then. Then I would’ve remembered exactly what you’re talking about. Sorry. If I was using the word China or the name of the country, China, I just don’t care about things that are made in China, because no one pays attention to how bad things are made, when made in China. I’m sorry. But this is just the reality.
@justinephillips72163 жыл бұрын
Rick I think you used the word 'chink' to refer to people from China in your original post which many people would find offensive and racist. You can have an opinion about manufacturing quality in Chinese factories but you don't need to use derogatory or racist words about Chinese people or people who have Chinese heritage. Do countries or companies who use Chinese labour need to be made accountable for the working conditions and resources Chinese factory workers are exposed to and have access too? Probably a lot goes on which we turn a blind eye to in Western countries because we get items at a much cheaper price. I guess that is a whole other story conversation to be had another time??

Self cleaning? Bit of an overstatement, it's the worst fryer I have ever had, such an agro to set up, it spills oil everywhere when you try to fill up as the drain through part doesn't seal and leaks if you tip container up too far, the idea's there but it is a nuisance and a messy one at that.

@Steve-Owens6 жыл бұрын
Because I truly, don't give a damn what they're called, the reason the English Language is so beautiful and STRONG is because when we took it to other lands and gave it freely, we were also happy for everyone to change it as they like, you can't offer a gift and tell people how to use it.. Languages that have those strict rules are fast dying. If your 1st Language is English Brian, be proud that it is in use all over the world and embrace the peculiar dialects. It might be chips in your street there but there is a Fat Chance it'll be the same the further you travel, or a Slim Chance perhaps? what a language it is, where fat and slim means the same thing LOL
