People in the comments saying it’s horrible or the similar likes, it’s not meant to be the original. It is a cover by someone that Tegan and Sara hand-picked for THEIR song. These covers are a celebration of an album that changed the musical lives of many of us here and we should respect that this isn’t necessarily about what we want. These artists were picked by them for special reasons and we can be excited for them as T&S have been gracious enough to let them create their personal takes on songs they wrote so important to them. It’s okay if it’s not your taste, it’s okay if you like the original better, but please don’t fill the comments section up with negativity on something so special to the performing artist and T&S

I would say as a fan of this song and A MASSIVE RA fan there's something about thi that feels a little indifferent. As someone who has seen RA live 10 plus times I think this feels a little forced. The production doesnt help BUT its missing piano and i see why theres none... too close to the original... it just feels forced at the end and the drumming arrangement is awful at the end. I see both sides but he's a master of covers and for someone who has covered a FULL ALBUM (Which I love from start to finish) thi just feels like a jam session or warm up. RA is MY HERO. But thi did let me down. I dont mean to be rude... and RA has covered many MANY songs... but this is not one he'll gloat about or be remembered for. :-/

Jake Elsaesser It's something Tegan has talked about in interviews that around the time that they were starting to get a little bit more famous and he wanted them to do his support for his tour he rang them passionately excitedly gushing about their songs and he only mentioned a lot of songs that Sara had written, so Tegan said I'm pretty sure that you want be talking to Sara and not me, so I'll get her to call you back later...

Also when they premiered it on apple music or something there was a small interview beforehand. DRA said that he was super excited that he was covering a Sarah song and that he loves them or something along the lines of that.

Respect to T+S for pulling this song off the album on streaming services and replacing it with the Cyndi Lauper version. Ryan Adams is a horrible monster.

I think if he stripped just 1 of the layers out of the chorus it wouldn't be so controversial. But the pitches are so far apart that they come off as discordant. Beyond that, I think this is okay. On a side note, I'm reminded of Birdbrain's "Youth of America." ( kzbin.info/www/bejne/Y5WVnGWcocx8f80 ) I'm not accusing anybody of plagiarism, it's just something I've noticed.

But this cover isn't, and Cyndi Lauper's cover is FAR better. And considering the fact that Cyndi is one of Tegan and Sara's favourite artists, I'm not really sure why this is the one that made the album. My guess is that Cyndi decided to make a cover after Ryan agreed to it, but this really sucks.

Again, I never wrote that I didn't think they were. What I did write was that they probably agreed to have Ryan's cover on the record before they even knew Cyndi Lauper was going to contribute.

I never mentioned a legal obligation............................... There is, however, a moral obligation to feature someone on the album if you've already agreed to feature them (there are also regularly contracts involved with these sorts of things too, so I'm not sure where you're getting your info). Now here is where I have to walk you through how to use logic. Picture you're in a band, and an artist you admire and your favourite artist - who shaped the music you write - are both willing to be part of your cover album. Who would you choose to do the primary track, and who would you choose to do the bonus track? You would obviously choose your favourite artist, unless there were circumstances in which you had to choose the artist you admired but wasn't your favourite to be the album track.
