Sure miss those dirty, grimy old SP EMD units. That was one working railroad.

Los mejores EMD pero ya hoy no suenan tan lindo, yo lo disfruto desde Argentina.

I used to work in downtown LA near the wilmington subdivision and the Oil cans would go by often. It is a one-of-kind oil train that had cars connected so they could be filled/emptied in groups.

Nothing like EMD locomotives, love that sound. Working hard and screaming power at the heavens.

Note the near-total absence of smoke / soot? I may like my Alcos, but this is the practical side of things - and soot = wasted fuel, as well as *other* important matters.

Why is every tank car connected to the one down the line, etc? Is it to maintain pressure among the load? Just curious. Cheers from eastern TN
@averageguy7136 Жыл бұрын
The tank cars were connected to allow them to be filled from a single source while still coupled. They were connected in several large groups.

I'm lashed up deep here pulling on average of 660,000 pounds per rail car. V-16 fiat Alice tug boat engine with full inter axel wheel lock deployment and sand spreader. 850,000 pounds per rail inch tractive drive. Notch seven. Goooo with throttle up, let's pull. Clutch fan on wheel lock engagement deployment on. Tare about 160,000. Load limit exceeded

can someone explain to me "oil cans"
@keithode17377 жыл бұрын
The "Oil Cans" are unit trains (trains made up entirely of one type of car) that carry crude oil from close to the source of extraction from the ground to a refinery.
@scoobycarr55586 жыл бұрын
ubc101 Those are unit oil tank cars nicknamed "oil cans" by railroad men.
