Goated anime for a reason, enjoy guys! Top quality animation, OST and the story is just chef kiss. Many of these places and some characters are based of real people. Vinland is located in Canada (Newfoundland). We are often taught that Columbus was the first guy who discovered North America when in fact it was Leif Erikson almost 500 years earlier.

A quick glimpse at Best Girl Thorkell at the start of the episode. Also yes they found remnants of Nordic settlements in North America that predates Christopher Columbus

you guys are watching Vinland Saga!!!! yessss!!! I have so many observations about this anime... though I may just copy them over from comments I've made about this show in other places before. I think the first thing I want to point out is these two parallel narratives. one about their ancestors, who came to Iceland to escape Harald, and one of this slave, who nearly died in the snow trying to escape his own mistreatment at the hands of Halfdan. when Leif tells the story of their ancestors, Thorfinn is insulted, and doesn't want to believe it, because he sees running away as cowardly and embarrassing. this, in spite of the fact that Thors also left the battlefield in that opening scene, and now he's simply a village leader. and it's not because he couldn't fight... he decided to stop. but then here, literally, Thorfinn enters the house where Thors is trying to save this man, intending to complain about Leif's story, because he thinks their ancestors did something shameful. only to be faced with the reality of those who run, and the things they're trying to escape. on top of that, Halfdan abides by laws... Harald was on the side of the law as well. when the law is unjust, sometimes the only meaningful choice a person can make is to leave. and their ancestors specifically fled to an extremely harsh environment, which doesn't seem like something that a person would choose, unless they didn't really have a choice at all. one of the big themes to keep track of in this story, is power, how it's used, and what people do in response. oh, and if you look... the episode title answers the question that Thorfinn asks his father at the end of the episode.

I always enjoy watching your videos from Japan.😊I'm so excited that the Vinland Saga journey is finally starting on this channel !! This anime is completely different from Attack on Titan, but to me it's just as great a story. Season 2 in particular is really great, so be sure to watch until the end. Let’s Go!!!

Won't say much about the history since it can be slightly spoiler to the anime, but the vikings found America like 500 years before Columbus. IIRC Leif Eriksson was the first European to set foot on American soil.
@JustS0meK1dd3 ай бұрын
There is very strong evidence that the Vikings were the first non-native people to discover the American continent (landed in Newfoundland, present day Canada), and there is a more dubious account of an Irish monk making it there even before they did. Columbus gets the credit because he opened the Americas to Europe, but he definitely didn't "discover" them first. There are actually a lot of historically accurate events and figures that are portrayed in Vinland Saga, but they are sometimes changed a little to make things more interesting to watch. The end results are usually accurate to what really happened in history though. I actually live in one of the towns that is featured later on in the anime, and the setting/events line up with what our Viking history museum depicts.

Vinland is America , and Leif Erikson was a Norse explorer who is thought to have been the first European to set foot on continental America, approximately half a millennium before Christopher Columbus. True or Not it's based on historical events that some happened and some could have happened

For the Japanese animation companies and animators who made this, the lifestyles and environment are far removed from Japanese culture, but what do foreigners think about that?
@nkechi46353 ай бұрын
I mean, that depends on where the person is from. Somebody from Iceland might recognize things in the anime from their history class, so it won't be far removed from them. But for someone from America like these youtubers or someone from South Africa, or any other non-European country, this is just as foreign to them as it is to Japanese people.

Day 145 of recommending the openings and endings of "Spare Me Great Lord". I shall go to 150 and then stop, because they obviously don't even see these. It's a chinese anime, so slightly different to the stuff you've reacted to so far, but it's got some of the vibest music and animation I've ever seen.
