Hes Right, with the Filltering and the separate lubricat system, but dirty oil? He changes the engine oil, thats way more Oil unfilterd than whats in the Oil filter. So i dont get that, you just have to Work clean.
@DaroriDerEinzige Жыл бұрын
@@just_m4rv Oil is "dirty" due to the stuff you get "with the oil" anyway. Like e.g. Plastic Particels or alike from the package in which it was stored - I think its more important in regards of big Diesels than smaller motors. Althoug I personally would argue; it depens on how long the engine didn't run / what everything is new but that is detail stuff. In general you don't have to prefill them. Then it depends on "How does your oil distribution works actually?" but yeah.

I believe in filling fuel filters just take the time and care to do it properly. clean fuel, outside to inside, cover the filter until ready to thread on housing. injectors and pumps have very tight clearances and rely on fuel for lubrication, so the less air in the system with less time spent cranking the better.

I've had two new 12V140E-7 engines that needed the bearings change on because of coolant in the oil. But found that the bearings had debris in the bearing surfaces, cause by filters being filled before installing. I had to hand polish both cranks to knock down the high spots on the journals. We asked the customer if they were filling filter before installing them and they said they did. These engines have a prelube system on them and the starters don't crank the engine until it see oil pressure in the block oil rail.

I don't fill filters unless the fuild has been filtered first. Another tip don't stand your filters on end uncovered, if anything falls on the filter it will most likely fall into the center hole. I'v had engines come in with welding slag that plugged a piston cooling nozzle and one that had a piece of a twig in it. Both of these items were bigger than the suction screen openings and the only way for them to get to the nozzles was by entering the system during oil filter change.

I got a question for you ? You said you don’t feel oil filters because you don’t want contaminated oil in the engine, fair enough I get the argument, but then you followed up saying the engine has to oiling circuits One for primary oiling and a second one for Oil filter. Isn’t dumping straight oil in the engine and firing it off still running dirty oil through the engine. Because you’ll be coming through the primary oil circuit. Which kind of defeats the purpose of not filling the oil filter oil because didn’t want to put contaminated oil through the engine
@jaredmayer39602 жыл бұрын
The whole idea is flawed. If you put oil into the crank case through a dirty funnel you’d be pumping dirt through the primary circuit until the by-pass filter catches that crud, like if you feel good about pre-filling the filter just do it. You’re not hurting anything and you’re getting oil pressure instantly. Which is never a bad thing.

Pre fillin a bypass filter yes does nothing, but then again a full flow inline filter does benefit from being prefilled, because that minimises the amount of air you now have to put through the oil passages and bearing surfaces, plus with engines with hydraulic controlled timing you also now have to bleed the valve system as well, which can take a few cycles for the engine to purge all the air out. Best to fill the outside yes, but with a new pack of oil, sealed, you will get very little contaminants in there, unless you are buying dodgy brands, the big brands make sure that they clean the containers before filling, and filter the oil going in as well, to give a very clean product out the sealed bottle. Just fill up the inside, wait a half minute for it to soak the media, put a thin film on the rubber seal to lubricate it, and put on the housing for the spin on filter. Cartridge filters depends, if you can put it on with the housing containing oil, but often you have to put dry, and those typically are low volume units anyway. Hydraulic filters bypass goes on dry, as it really does no actual filtering, the full flow should be full, so there is less to bleed out, a lot of hydraulic systems are a pain to bleed, especially single acting cylinders, as they often will never bleed fully. Fuel filters depends, before the pump best to fill it, in tank pump put in dry, and let the pump fill it. Most important is to change them.
@overtenemy692 жыл бұрын
never prefill oil filters. the risk of un filtered oil into the engine is too great a risk. EVERY engine is designed to have enough storage in the oil galleys for it to run without going dry as the oil pump will prime the system while running.
@jaredmayer39602 жыл бұрын
@@overtenemy69 I don’t know if I’d take advice from overt enemy 69. Sounds pretty smart forsure. Dry starts are real, and this guys comment is pretty solid. I’ve seen the funnels dirty, and when you have cold oil that is hydraulically filling the filter the bypass ends up open so you’re pumping junk through your engine regardless. Do what makes you feel good. When there’s a 2 gallon filter going on I fill it up. I fill fuel filters too. It’s way too hard on your engines fuel components to run dry, and it wails on your starter too. I’ve seen guys crank shit for 5-10 minutes trying to start equipment. By this logic you shouldn’t pour oil right out of the jug over the valve/cam assembly on a newly assembled engine before you start it because there might be contamination in the oil? By this logic you couldn’t ever rebuild an engine because there would be too much contamination.
@markm0000 Жыл бұрын
Bro just crank the engine a few times you’ll get oil pressure if you’re that worried about a dry start.
@Natedog5052 жыл бұрын
If the machine don’t have a primer pump I just have a 3 ft 1/4 in hose with a compucheck fitting and a ball valve on the end so I can tap into the filtered fuel on my service truck also just keep a gallon of filtered fuel in a old oil jug I know is spotless
@jaredmayer39602 жыл бұрын
Still not clean enough, spotless isn’t clean…lol
@Natedog5052 жыл бұрын
@@jaredmayer3960 I mean I just fill through outside of filter anyhow so it’s really double filtered usually I’ll hook my electric pump up and pull fuel through but the jug is convenient for road calls 5 in the morning with cars a foot from you isn’t really place to be messing with fittings
@jaredmayer39602 жыл бұрын
@@Natedog505 I’m messing with you. I think the whole filling filter argument as ridiculous. Filling it once has less contamination than filling the tank everyday with unfiltered fuel. Running dry and spinning something over for minutes on the starter is way worse than 1 micro spec of crud from the “clean oil jug”.

agco recommends that you blow out filters every 500 hours and replace every 2k hrs. so do you blow when the OEM recommends?
@jaredmayer39602 жыл бұрын
It’s all about how careful you are, you’re supposed to wipe out the housing with a wet rag so that you don’t get dirt in the engine. If the situation were real, you wouldn’t pull a cap off that is like 2 feet from where the filter friction fits on, you’d have the housing undo right at the filter base, friction fit to the cover and the snout it slides on. Then you’d get no dust, ever. And I get mine cleaned. I swap them when they need a blow out, and take them to the filter service place and boom I have a clean, like new filter.

I don't pre-fill oil filters I do pre fill fuel filters usually with stanadyne. I worked on a fleet of Kubota excavators they are notorious for air leaks in the return line system. The little woofer pump doesn't have enough balls to push the air out. I don't think Cam has worked on 2 stroke Detroits you only make the mistake once getting a burp of air. You're there with cosby in a can spinning her over till she burps the air out. The worst machine I had to service was the Deere 690ELC. Odd ball Deere specific filter the POS pissing fuel every where. If you're running bio diesel blend you have to change you're filters more often.

@markm0000 Жыл бұрын
You do what you think is best, but filling the whole filter with straight Stanadyne sounds like a really bad idea and hella expensive. I always crack the valve at the bottom of the fuel tank to get any water out and that cuts down on algae. I strongly suggest making a lift pump hotrod to a drill battery adapter and priming the fuel system that way. You get all the air out and fill up the filters. No more spilling fuel everywhere or lifting up heavy filters to try and spin on. If you're the guy working on a fleet of the same equipment, add a quick release fitting somewhere before the filter so it's nice and easy every time.
