They did an excellent job of breaking that story and lore down in a way that will be digestible to most of the audience, but is *really* cool if you were a big fan of the original trilogy like I was.

I was about to say the same thing. The Tekken Bloodline slander is weird, especially since this is the most faithful adaptation of the games by far. It takes its liberties like all adaptations do, but their subtle and mostly make sense. And the action is FANTASTIC!

While I stand by that somebody not a fan of the games could enjoy it and get into the lore, it’s not like the greatest story ever nor would it transcend them into becoming an Uber fan or anything. Just a good show that broke down the lore of the earlier games in a nice bow, which would be neat for the general audience, but really great for me, at least. Ha

Get that there’s a literal tournament, and logically you would keep all the fights in one location, but I really wanted to see Ogre’s Lair as depicted in the games. As a MK fan, Tekken 8’s story mode is the perfected version of what NRS built up since MK vs DC. Yes, it was a more focused generally better story than a lot of the MK’s, but they also do some way clever stuff with how they interacted with cutscenes and played with the music- just excellently executed in almost every aspect.

I'm loving T8 so far. I've completed the story, which was probably the best story mode in any fighting game atm. It's hard to think of any that beat it. I've also finished all of the character chapters, which I suggest because those are what shows more personality of the characters, even if it's not canon. If you don't do them all, just do Jin, Kaz, and Jun, and you'll get hooked! I haven't completed Arcade Quest, and I'm not sure if I will, unless there's an unlock at the end. I just did enough to get the Super Ghost mode, which I play on my Steam Deck, and is really good for punish practice. As for the online, I also haven't had much issue with connection unless it was crossplay or wifi, or both. But I can't wait to climb the ranks some more. See ya'll online!

Tekken 8 deserves Every Praise that it should get from story mode to characterization and the music are both 10 out of 10. I would highly recommend it to any gamer that loves tekken, Reina Mishima is the true prodigal child in Rising Star for this new game

I've always been a casual enjoyer of Tekken since I'm a 2D fighter player at heart even though I've been with the series since 5. It's not as if I'm a masher, but my movement is rather aimless, as I just run in and out of range to bait a whiff. I don't really know what I can and can't sidestep at a glance and I'm also not perceptive enough to recognize which hand my opponent uses while grabbing. Still, Tekken 8 somehow managed to capture my attention in a way that even SF 6 couldn't. I don't really understand why that is, but it just feels so satisfying to play.

Devil Within in Tekken 5 is non-canon. The story is told through the arcade-style story mode. It's only in Tekken 6 were Tekken Force is made to be the main story. Personally, I'd love to see a go at this again, maybe influenced by something like World Your this time. I disagree with Max's comment about the side characters in Tekken 7. Everybody is trying to get Jin for different reasons. Lars, Lee and Alisa want him because after Nina explained his reasoning for starting a war in Tekken 6 I guess he got convinced that he can stop Kazuya. Heihachi probably wants him to use him as bait for Kazuya, like he did in Tekken 4, and Kazuya wants him to get his devil power for himself. On the other hand, I feel like including even more randos like Leo, Leroy, Asuka, Lili, Hwoarang in important plot events is just for the sake of having every single person appear in the story mode, which is not necessarily in my opinion since they all have arcade endings of their own this time. They're unfortunately non canon though. The presentation in Tekken 7 was much more annoying, and Tekken 8's is definitely more fun, chapters 5 and 10 were AMAZING as well as the later ones in Yakushima, but Tekken 7's was more focused at least. I also feel like they tried way too hard to make sure that people KNEW Jin was never evil. Like Leo touching his fist and telling him "I can tell you're not evil", same with Leroy and his speech. You've both only spoken to him for five seconds and fought him ONCE 😂 Nina telling Lars Jin's true motive for fucking everything up and how he was not as ashole after all was much more subtle. Tekken Tag 2 only has past soundtracks and arcade endings as paid DLC because Harada said he thought it unfair to charge people for extra characters because then people who don't have those characters don't know how to play against them... I'm guessing Tag 2's sales and a little scolding from the higher ups of Namco must have persuaded him otherwise 👀 Harada of course knew who Itagaki was, he even said he misses him because he was crazy like him while the people who took over after he left are "too normal". Also, the beef started by Namco. Tekken 3 and DOA1 were releasing at around the same time and apparently Namco was engaging in some 90s video game advertising in the same vein as Sega and Sony trashing Nintendo and they made fun of DOA and Itagaki never forgave him 😂 I agree with Matt, Eddy looks the best he's ever had. I guess they thought if they're gonna ignore Christie again then he has to at least be hot this time lol. Also, since Matt mentioned the hair, a lot of characters are missing past hair options. Nina for example doesn't have her ponytail as an option, In fact only Hwoarang seems to get his classic hair, so I'm not sure if they would do that for Eddy or not.

I don't wanna say Itagaki was right (he might've been trying to drum up controversy/hype too), but I agree. While I love Tekken and its crazy characters, the presentation, stages, and combat systems of DOA, especially 4 had me absolutely hooked. I loved VF4 for similar reasons, but I was just too bad at the games. Here's to hoping Tekken 8's online community lasts. It's a blast.

Is it just his moveset change cuz as I understand it Jin's characterization in T4 was amazing Rejecting the mishima style due to the events in T3 and learning a new style, he beats both Kaz and Heihachi (which is cannon considering the op of T5 had Kaz and Hei unconscious in Homnaru which is how Jin left them) Maybe I just don't get how impactful the moveset change was to T3 heads since I got into Tekken from playing T5 and then owning T6 and T7 when it dropped (I went and grabbed T5 and T4 later on and loved those games) but I feel like people should enjoy T4 Jin's story instead of panning it Also T4 Jin has the best drip and I want those fits back for him.

On the Japanese player matches, I fought like 5 Japanese players (night of 1-29-2024 through 1-30-2024 early morning). Only one connection wasn’t great but the rest were perfect. The region said Asia when I matched up. I’m assuming those were Japanese players. That was only in Player Matches, not Ranked Matches, for me.

Hey Tekken players. Question: do you feel like they made the Electrics easier to pull off in this game? (without the "modern" thingy, obviously) In T7, I could get 1 electric out of 5 tries on right side (1/10 on left side), but in T8 I get almost 1/2 right side and 1/4 left side. The story felt odd for me *spoilers.* Overall it was worth it day one! The main story deserves the tone of Tekken 4 imo. The main characters get a well written story. Almost all of the side characters were fumbled. They are either jokes or one offs. The worst offender was Asuka, she should have been the one to fight Jin. It also would have made more sense for her and Xiaoyu to team up against the Jacks. Side note, Panda just watches the army of jacks and does nothing? Heihachi and Kazuya for crying out loud fought Jack 4's and heihachi still got stuck under a pile. I know he was betrayed but still. Zafina deserved one story fight. She got folded way too easily considering she has access to Azazel in combat. Lastly, Lars was amazing. I just wish he ripped his clothing similar to Heihachi.

I'm sorry, but MK1's story mode is GARBAGE compared to T8's. It was decently good in the first half, but the second half and the overall creativity and effort are nowhere near as good as what we got in Tekken. I think SF6's World Tour was pretty good, though. I've really enjoyed just roaming around and fighting AI dudes with my custom character. If they were to combine that with Tekken's AI Ghost tech, I think it'd be quite awesome

I can’t believe i‘m saying this, but i genuinely liked Tekken 7‘s story mire. 8 was one giant nonsensical mess with Reina just being the most forced in character in Tekken History. Not to mention that Jin and Kazuya straight up went into a Final Fantasy battle with each other. They had 7 years to come up with a story and it’s still one not nearly as good as Tekken 4

Tekken 8 took more steps forward than backwards, but I can't help but mention some things that I found underwhelming such as customization, Arcade Quest, dumbed down ghost battle (treasure battle in T7 was better), and occasionally the direction of story mode. All in all it's a pretty dern good launch, just hope there's lots more to come as far as content/features if we're going to be stuck with this game for a while.

Spoilers for Tekken 8's story . . . . . . . The one thing with the ending that i don't get is how Reina got the devil Gene, my personal theory is that it's not the devil gene but instead what Jinpachi had, the only other way dhe could have it is if her mother was someone else from the same clan that Kazumi was from or from another clan that Azazel blessed with the gene.

I have to be honest I thought the story mode was really mid and kinda corny at times. Press x to believe in your heart and beating the bad guy with the power of love and friendship is a little lame imo.

The Jin focus took me out of the story. Not really a fan of generic shonen tripe or Jin for that matter. Kaz and Hei are so much better as characters.

i dont think either Tekken SF6 or MK1 will hold up years from now theyre all quite ugly with bad physics and awkward movements. once fighting games have more fluid movements that look and feel like real martial arts performance and not A.I robots people will find it very hard to go back to these games
