What is your personal stance on “one and done”? Should Tekken 8 enforce playing a complete FT2?

Really annoying, you don't learn anything. Your opponent doesn't learn anything. Especially in quick match, where playing has zero consequences on your rank.

I'm new to the tekken world. There are toxic af players put there who have been playing twkken for ages and just wana defeat you in a way that breaks your spirit. I do not enjoy playing folks like that so I tend to give them just one match before hitting the lab. Locking someone into ft2 isn't the answer.

1&done and plugging wouldnt be a problem if they gave incentives and encouraged players to rematch more. can be fixed like this: 1st match in a set --> standard points for win, standard deduction for loss 2nd match (consecutive win) --> higher points for winning the set, much less deduction for losing again 2nd match (win 1 lose 1) --> slightly higher than standard win points, slightly lower than standard loss point deduction 3rd match --> significantly higher than standard win points, significantly lower than standard loss point deduction allow for infinite rematche 4th match and beyond --> no points for disconnect: 1. show disconnect percentage correctly 2. award standard win points to the person who didnt disconnect 3. deduct higher than standard points on the side that disconnected 4. no bans 5. no penalties on the 4th match and beyond

Ranked points are there for matchmaking as well, not solely as an encouragement to keep playing. If you change how point distribution works, it will either make matching players based on skill more difficult, or create a disconnect between MMR and displayed rank, which would make the latter fairly meaningless. Treating DC as a loss for one player, and win for the other, should be fairly normal, though. And good idea on the infinite rematch. Would be perfect if after the set if over we could just keep playing when both are down for it.

If a DC is counted as a win for one player then people would most definitely start farming wins off another account. Its best to just have it count as a loss its not perfect but atleast you know the plugger lost points.

I'd say for disconnect 3. Deduct lower than standard points, but increse the number if it keeps occuring. Because some people can leave because of power issues, internet, crashes etc. But if it's occuring over and over, then it's 90% a plugger

If you don’t care about rank points, then why do you care about it being a specific format? If you want a long set, you can talk to people, and play a long set in private, or in the lounge, or play quick match. As you yourself say - points don’t matter. There are other modes in the game, not just Ranked Match.
@okureta
@okureta 5 ай бұрын
From my own experience - I will only one-and-done unplayable connections. And if I was mandated to play a full FT2 against a lag switch, it’s easier for me to just put the controller down and go get a snack or something. A waste of time. The game has a big enough population where looking for a new match doesn’t take long (hey, you can actually run into the same guy you just finished a set against). So no, I don’t think mandated FT2 is necessary, or even fair. One-and-dones are going to do their thing, and the best we can do is learn to win that first match. And maybe talk to people for a long set occasionally.
@Filterdeez

@@okuretaexactly. I don't mind one and dones, but I'm not going to rematch someone who just destroyed me or that I just destroyed. There isn't anything to learn, I'm gonna take my points or loss and move on. Now the cheaters, I'll plug tf out of them. You wanna cheat, hold this disconnect.
@judge_rekt
@judge_rekt 5 ай бұрын
Plugging is an issue, because you get your points stolen. You loose something you'd have gotten. One and done is not a big deal. There could also be a ton of reasons why people can not play another round, but why rack your brain over something you'll never know anyways? You already got your points from the win. Next opponent is ready for you 10secs later. Just move on and don't care about other players. Care about your performance and improving your skills. How Namco should "fix" this: Give bonus points for completing a set. That way people can still decide on their own, if they want to finish a set, or not. At the same time you are incentivised to do so. Everyone is happy.

I feel like one and done does a disservice to both players, a normal 3 round game isn't necessarily enough to learn anything (as I was typing this it was said in video, lol) but the main thing for me is that it's really annoying and I understand this might not be applicable at all, but it feels like if you leave after one loss it's salt, and if you leave after one win it feels like you're just cocky
@Strangz_ODT
@Strangz_ODT 5 ай бұрын
If I wipe the floor with someone, I don’t mind the one and done. (Although I will select rematc)I don’t think they will learn much by getting washed again and I’m not greedy for taking points from someone I know I can beat. It only irks me if they happen to scrub a w on me then leave. That feels like they know it was a fluke and wouldn’t go there way in a set. Which is fine and not a big deal, don’t care about the points and atleast they didn’t plug. It’s just slightly disheartening knowing players rather achieve ranks with the path of less resistance instead of challenging themselves. Reaching a rank for real to me means that you’ve gotten strong enough that the majority of players in the ranks below you can no longer contend against you, and for pluggers, win quitters , and carried players without fundamentals, that simply isn’t the case.
@stuke18

I think a reason this is such a problem in t8 is how the rank system works. The fact that when you are red ranks or higher and lose to someone three ranks higher than you is the same points loss as someone your own rank massively disinsentivises fighting and learning from people stronger than you. In other games like sf6 or even T7 playing a higher ranked player isn't such a big deal as the points loss is marginal. It takes guts in T8 to press rematch against someone you are probably going to lose to because you know a major points loss is coming. Not saying its a good reason to leave, but I think bamco should be thinking about how their ranked system incentivises one and dones

Plugging is a far bigger problem than one and done. Ultimately you cant force people to rematch you if they don't want to. The same people pushing this are the same ones upset that Death matches aren't a thing anymore. Ultimately forcing people to run a set they don't want to play is a waste of that persons time. If I'm playing ranked I'm playing for points, I can run unranked or sets in player matches for the sake of labbing.

Thought I should add that when the game was first released and the game was crashing due to servers being overloaded, completing a set sometimes caused the game to crash. For some reason, choosing not to rematch actually helped reduce the amount of crashing, so everyone was doing that just to keep playing. But thankfully that's been fixed and now one has an excuse to not finish a set haha

Personally, I one and done for a couple reasons that i don't think it's stated. One instance is a complete stomp. Im in Garyu with my main right now so im not to adverse to learning the match up, But when I litterally sit there AND CAN"T actuaally play the game why do i want to pkay you again? There's no Dance which fighting games are, it's just one person,. slamming full tilt while the person is struggling to actually stand. The Second reason, is Just as much as others don't want their time wasteed, I don't want my time wasted. This game has a lot of cheap,cheesy character that ironically most of them if not all of them are high tier. Feng, Why play, when he out damages in almost every scenario. Dragunov, Has plus frames on everything. Xiaoyu, is so evasive that literally it would be better to stand there as a wet log and just get beat. Lastly, Right now as rank stands, I wouldn't mind rematching if i Didn't Lose more point when going against a higher a opponent than me. This ranked system incentivises you A) play and makes sure your opponent doesn't have a chance , B) Lose if you are at the bottom of your rank or C) Fight lower ranked opponents,Dominate them, obtain a win streak then just keep doing that.... Its the game that is breeding this toxic behaviours

The game could, after the initial fight in a ranked match; prompt the players to select between a first to 2, 3, 5, etc. The lowest selection of the 2 players will be chosen. One cool feature of that is if you are playing a 'weak' or non-meta character people will be more inclined to select longer sets against you, and you will benefit from a better environment for learning (long sets). The inverse is true for when you select OP characters. Players get a choice, at any rate.

Plugging is a far bigger problem than one and done for me. Sure think what you’d like, but it’s within the rules and their right to quit after one game, otherwise the game wouldn’t allow it. Also, it’s possible maybe something came up, or they ran out of time to play/kids are crying/ they need to sleep. They’re only obligated to complete the match at least. I personally get at least one rematch in, but I don’t think much of a one and done. Now, there isn’t much room for debate for someone quitting in the middle of getting back to back juggle comboed, that’s just pure salt (not to mention it didn’t give you credit for the win, did they fix that yet??)

Decouple the ladder from MMR. Make the latter something that's less visible and based on pure Elo and not arbitrary points. Then just award points to climb a ladder that isn't tied to Elo. This way, you can tweak the amount of points given (or taken away) while at the same time preserving actual accurate matchmaking.

In any competitive format a Tekken match is first to two wins, and ranked is now set up with that ft2 format, only your opponent can simply leave early without completing the set lol so this creates a situation where people are incentivised to leave after every match so they can maximise their points and avoid opponents who might beat them It doesn't matter if people occasionally leave early it's more that this quickly becomes the norm due to the point distribution and ranked becomes a pointless grind of going in and out matches, queuing up for a new set every 3 minutes etc

Forced FT-2 is really bad because there are too many wifi warriors and potato PC's out there. I am a serial rematcher but I draw the line at your PC and connection sucking ass. I think there should be a points distribution system. If your opponent wins and you don't rematch you lose more points and they gain same and if you win and decide to dip half the points you earned should go back to opponent. That way serial one and donners will lose points accumulatively as your rank win rate is usually around 50% mark and be forced to rematch more. And I am okay with losing some points once in a while for not rematching unplayable connecton.

My solution for Ranked: One and done with a win - You get a quarter or smaller fraction of what points you'd normally get, promos only given for 2 wins One and done with a loss - You eat double the amount of lost points, demotions automatic DC - Auto win for the player still connected to tekken servers, loss for player who broke connection with the server

The vocal minority who cry loudly about one-and-done-ing are crying about nothing. T8 has several utterly broken or advantaged/disadvantaged characters, and is still waiting for major balance changes, some of which will never come. That alone explains it. Also if you see that the opponent just mopped the floor with you, like you had no chance, you're not going to want to fight them again, that would be stupid. Touch the stove? No thanks. I play people for all 3 usually even if they beat me, because i want to learn how to fight that OP character better, obviously, but there's no reason to throw shade if someone wants to leave after an entire match. They're not leaving after a single round, some of these matches are potentially 5 rounds if it goes 2-3. Also, its not like you have a shortage of players, how long does it take you in "searching for a player?" 5 seconds? T8 sold 2 million like right away. There is absolutely zero shortage of players. Its not like you have to sit on a loading screen. You get to wait in practice mode by default. You want to get better? Thats what that's for. Get better by playing, get better in practice mode, both are necessary. Is it because you beat someone and you want the glory and dopamine of beating them again, even though you have already proven you can beat them? If they beat you once and then leave, are you upset because you didnt get a chance to prove you could also beat them? You're going to lose, you're going to win, that's part of the deal. It doesn't matter if someone beat you. They're going to get better and worse and so are you. Theyre going to promote and demote and so are you. Look at the win percentages. Some characters are objectively less inclined to win. If i play your character who is objectively advantaged, and then you play them well, and whip by butt, why would i sign up for more of that? I'm not going to get better in a match where i have exactly 2 moments in the entire match to do the perfect thing and avoid death. Also, thats not fun. If they beat me and i feel like i messed up or i had a chance, which is most of the time, I'll play all three, and usually get at least one match win. But if the character match up is heavily tilted, why are you trying to shame players into fighting you again so you can whip them again? Do you need more practice doing your routine on players who don't have a chance? You have that already, it's called practice mode, or even super ghost battle. Imagine this argument in any other field of life. "I beat him really bad and he DIDN'T wanna play again for some reason!! What a trash person!!!" Also, its a video game. How can you be mad that a random stranger didn't play a video game with you for the frequency and duration that you desired? This is a nothing burger. What actual problem is created by one-and-done-ing? Literally none. "Moooom! Jason won't rematch me in basketball!!!" "Jacob you always mop the floor with your brother, leave him alone. Go play the neighbors."

@@skyefox5796 I love Tekken 7 and 8 but the balance is sometimes hilarious. I'm learning Lidia right now in Tekken 7 and she has a quick 3 hit combo that does 33% health. I'm learning that true balance is not really a thing with Tekken.
@raidennc

Wait until somebody tells him the truth... That this is the most balanced Tekken has ever been on release.. The fact is you will feel the same way no matter what changes the balance team makes to the game. Tiers will always exist in EVERY competitive game and you will always feel l/respond the same way... Unless the character you have chosen to play somehow becomes really strong. You should consider watching this video from Sajam as it encapsulates your entire post pretty well. kzbin.info/www/bejne/kInGkIOVhtmrfM0si=otpavXE8enS7NnFG Also, ranked is the competitive mode of the game. It sounds like you'd be happier playing quick match where there are no stakes. But in competitive mode it makes sense that players want to promote consistency and less volatile resulte.

Lost me at the 3 min mark -Nobody's entitled to a full set - 1 and done should be applied If the skill difference between the players Is too high (Nobody gets better In this matchup) -time will always be wasted waiting for the next challenger full set or not -with T8's high damage potential learning how to deal with a character mid match becomes a rare occurrence

I just don't care enough to 'learn' the game. So I default to no rematch. Besides, most of the matches aren't close enough, for my doomer attitude to say that I had a chance. One might say: but there's no point, win or lose it's part of the experience. To which I say - yes; but if there's no point, I might as well be winning. And last point - I don't like customizations people come up with. If I had an option to only see default one, I would be rematching 5 times more, no joke. And I do play minion masters. 7 minutes+ is already on the high end of a nice even match. 10 minutes is the crazy long once a year. And I prefer it that way! Battlerite length of the match over League every day.

Sounds like you don't enjoy a challenge. It sounds like you enjoy fighting against players who play the exact way you want them to and don't challenge you to change in anyway. Which is fine. It's your right to do so. But it's inaccurate to say you like to be challenged. It sounds like you like to be comfortable

Dear God no...... this aint it. There is a different between losing to someone who is just skilled better and beats you with skill. vs someone who knowledge check you to death. I could lose to Anakin, Joecrush, PHIDX, Lil Majin all day long and wouldnt bat an eye. But when you spam with Jin, Jun, Dragunuv its annoying and why would I play 3 sets with You? If you want to win that bad, go ahead but I'm moving on to the next person. Yall expect this some type of honor in "finishing the set" But then when it comes to people spamming the same moves over and over again suddenly its no big deal and just get good. @@raidennc

@@hang1893 if you lose to someone "spamming" and not adjusting to it then why TF are you even bringing up Majin and Anakin? You can't beat simple strats. The players you worship don't lose to players you lose to doing at nonsense. They have to figure it out the same way you do. The difference between losing to someone more skilled and someone you deem "less skilled" is still a lack of skill on your part. You're likely not as skilled as you think you are tbh. And that will continue to be the case with your current approach to the game. Do you tho, fam 🫡
