I have been riding motorcycles for many years, but my fellow American bikers and motorcyclists will never know what a simple motorcycle means to most of the world outside of the developed countries. Motorcycles in these countries are true workhorse vehicles that are vital and necessary to the lives of the people of those regions. Much respect to these people.

As already mentioned, necessity is the mother of all invention. I'm a retired US military FilAm living here in the Philippines and I've seen it all loaded on a motorcycle from another motorcycle, 16 sacks of charcoal to a cow (I'm not joking either) I've seen it all. These morcycles named by the locals as "sky lab" and mostly used in the southern island Mindanao. These are small displacements engines mostly around 150cc or smaller yet they are loaded very heavy. The driven and driver sprockets are changed for gear reduction for more torque to pull them heavy loads up the hills. Unbelievable what human ingenuity and commitment to get things done with what they have available can come up with.

We all know these type of transportation are not safe. However, both the driver as well as passengers are fully aware of the Risk they are taking. The motorcycle driver need the money to feed his family. The poor people living in the village needed inexpensive transportation. If we are born in those nations with little education, we would have done exactly the same. He would rather put on a suit and tie and work as a high paying corporate attorney but this is the best he could do for the time being and hopefully if he raise his kids well they do not have to do what the father had to do. I think the side seats should be lower to the ground. If the driver looses balance and tilting the bike, the person seating on the side seat can prop/drag their leg down to keep the bike from tipping over.

One night coming back from town, I tipped my '84 old beater Goldwing over while stopping at the mail box, when I put my foot out on loose gravel. I had a 50 pound bag of dog food, and a 10 gallon filled propane tank, plus the panniers full of groceries on board. I could not pick that sucker up, but 30 seconds later a local rancher stopped and between the two of us it was upright again. Then the rancher, right before he left, asked me if I ever thought of getting a pickup truck. I told him I had a 1 ton at home, but only use that for big loads, we both laughed.

I have been to the Philippines two times but I didn’t see this ingenious motor cycle with multiple passengers on each side. I didn’t see it also in other Asian countries. It can easily be out of balance when one side is heavier than the other or the driver knocked one side against something. The passengers must get on on both sides at the same time. No obese passenger allowed on this motor cycle, that’s for sure.
@smallhelmonabigship35245 ай бұрын
I am amazed they can do it. Those people are more than he could lift, but he has to balance them anyway. When I was young, I once strapped a new car battery to the back of my mountain bike and rode it home. It was manageable, but you could feel how top heavy the bike became. Like it could tip over really easy if you weren't careful. I could not imagine trying to balance six people like that who each weigh different.

This is incredible, some people do acrobatics for entertainment and in here people do acrobatics on their daily lives. Also interesting that in most western countries it is mandatory to wear a helmet in a motorcycle (and in a few even in a bicycle) and here helmets are almost never seen.

For instance they know these bikes are being used for this sort of thing is there a way they could create some sort of safety training wheels that would prevent them from tipping the bike? You would think they could marry two frames together and just use one single engine and build off of that or mabe build a cheap lightweight quad ATV type vehicle maybe ?I don’t know??? there has got to be a way to manufacture a rough and tumble all terrain cheap fuel efficient vehicle for these folks that is much more safe and stable.
