UPDATE: Tesla has officially rolled out FSD V13 that includes many new items such as banish and reverse. Elon says this is a 500% improvement over the last version, this is going to blow a lot of minds! Unfortunately this is only available for newer vehicles with AI4

On the bright side, if FSD on HW3 doesn’t work out, it could mean a free retrofit that effectively upgrades our entire car - it might be in our best interest that FSD Unsupervised isn’t achievable with current hardware

@heyJohnEe Can you link the post where elon confirmed 2.5 cars that have been upgraded to HW3 will be retrofited, since I have a model 3 that was upgraded and want to refer back to it in the future if it doesn't follow through.

I’ll drop the link later today when I find it again, but for now just putting it out there that HW2.5 is a free upgrade to HW3 as long as you buy FSD and visit the service center. Then eventually HW3 is retrofittable with HW4 as he mentioned recently. So in this case it would be a direct jump instead of going through the typical path

Also, add a front bumper camera. HW5 needs cross-traffic cameras. My car gets a HW freeze and stops in the middle of unprotected left turns or U-turns.

Front bumper camera is definitely coming to HW5 and may possibly be a retrofit to current hardware 4 as well

question for clarity... when they say, "we will upgrade those who have bought HW3 FSD - free" key word being "bought"...I'm sure they are talking about people who paid the outright $8000+ for FSD but could that maybe include the people who are on the subscription too? I mean I am sure they are looking at people only subbing to get the upgrade and then not subbing consistently afterwards. But what about the people who sub consistently to FSD? Maybe some kind of contractual agreement that you have to sub for a full year after the upgrade?

I think the future will be subscription only, it’ll make them more money. They’ll eventually scrap buying outright so I’m sure this will apply to FSD subscriptions too

I think the side repeater cameras need to be upgraded so they can see farther when making unprotected turns. Also the wiring harness still net mine need to be swapped out if you swap out the cameras because it might not support the higher bandwidth the cameras will produce

I have a '19 M3 SR+ & I paid for FSD before it was available. I have HW3 & the latest s/w. I've seen it improve over time UNTIL recently. Now it has become clear to this retired Systems Analyst & programmer that it cannot process fast enough. It misses opportunities and often makes moves that are dangerous. I now get honked at which never happened prior because it is unable to 'keep up'. The cameras are also a concern. I've had the rear & fender cameras replaced as pixels started failing. The front has that issue but they refused to replace it under warranty (?!). It's now winter in Alberta and FSD repeatedly flashes 'FSD DEGRADED' and aborts before I drive out of my neighbourhood. Not a good sign for the future. If Tesla does not replace the FSD computer, I'd be expecting a replacement vehicle with HW4 instead. Any other option would be a poke in the eye for those who paid up front!

Tesla prepares for HW3 retrofit? This fixes everything? Both with question marks. There are no signs of retrofit at the moment. All we know is hw3 updates are halted and tesla is pushing to meet Q4 AI4 sales (another bump in referral promos is a clear indication) the lack of updates on hw3 is surely frustrating owners to go buy a new car and help tesla meet sales targets.

Elon confirmed they’ll be going through the retrofit path if FSD unsupervised isn’t achievable for HW3 vehicles, which ultimately fixes everything we’re experiencing with now. My personal opinion only, but I don’t think they’ll easily throw out a statement like such if they haven’t already tested and played with some form of retrofit months back, probably design is complete by now if anything
