@tarcal878 жыл бұрын
Did you say the same for the RX 460? The thing is, *all* cards released cost less than $100 to manufacture. We just got used to being charged so much for cards that you take it for granted. The reason they need to charge more is the R&D costs for a new architecture (which all tier cards of a generation uses), and they allocate that cost disproportionally to different tiers. Material cost probably won't hit $100 for a GTX 1080 either, but ofc they must recover the R&D costs somewhere, and trivial to say they will do that more on the enthusiast level. If they had nothing but the 1050 for the new architecture, they couldn't sell it for $100.
@yournevergunnaknow52018 жыл бұрын
And if you bought rice by the ton it would cost almost nothing.
@Toreno138 жыл бұрын
GaborBartal one reason why the higher performing cards are more expensive is also that they are simply harder to manufacture. When creating the gpu chip from the waver there are always impurities, which lead to parts of the chip being disabled. Too many impurities and the chip simply won't qualify for e.g. a gtx 1080 and can't be used in that card. Because a high performing card normally has a bigger die size, there will also automatically be more inpurities on the chip, which makes it more likely for a chip not being able to be used for the top tier card. And smaller manufacturing processes like 14nm compared to 28nm make it even harder to keep inpurities at a minimum.
@tarcal878 жыл бұрын
Yes true, yield is a big problem as well, but that's just it, it doesn't affect this card as much as it affects higher-sized chips

Yes, the 1050ti allows you to play big titles or modded titles but 1060 packs over 50% more performance than that which can be felt. It's basically comparing 950/960 to 980 in terms of performance equivalents of last generation. Hell, even the RX 470 4gb version is a better pick than these.

A 38% difference in price is significant. But if you're use to buying things with the Canadian dollar (and don't look at US prices) its just the norm I suppose. Everything in Canada is more expensive than in the states (except healthcare) so its more of a forget and forgive thing I guess. Would I rather pay 38% more for a new graphics card or walk into any medi-clinic for (virtually) free healthcare. lol.
@genericusername66448 жыл бұрын
diablomix No, you do not understand. In some countries, the prices and currency are so inflated, $1,000,000 could only buy you a coffee. So in some countries if a person earns a million it might seem a lot but it's worth less then over here.

Kmart shoppers are triggered. Lol this video is so passive aggressive, I like it. The card will absolutely get up you and running for pc gaming. Not just budget gamers but teens with strict parents. There the ones who always yell at folks to buy used. That's really the target market for the 1050. It works.
@teksyndicate8 жыл бұрын
I know growing up that there was a TON of other teenagers that couldn't scrounge up enough dough to get a decent GPU, as most of the entry level ones were garbage at the time. A lot of families have somewhat decent machines, just with no dedicated GPU - the GTX 1050 really leaves no excuse on why some people would get a console over this card. -Hutch

what cpu did you guys use for the benchmarks
@Greyghostvol18 жыл бұрын
Sniper Tank they likely paired it with a cpu that would in no reasonable way bottleneck it....so probably a skylake i5 or i7. If so, expect slightly lower frames on older, more real world CPUs, but not much more than maybe 10 or so fps. Considering every game they showed were well above 30, that's still not bad, even if you're using an older Sandy Bridge (intel) or excavator (AMD) based CPUs. This card will still be a great way to turn that cheapo best buy workstation pc with an i5-4400 into a decent gaming rig. That said. I do wish they listed the specs.

It probably hurts the asshole elitists, but this is an _excellent_ showcase of the sheer amount of overkill in modern high-end graphics cards. For the majority of people that game on PC, this card would be more than reasonable for the sheer sake of playing a game smoothly with those good-ass pc graffixxx people like to talk about all the time; especially at $100. Only time I ever purchased a card new was a PNY GTX 650, and that little buddy was $130 four years ago. With the price of reasonable components, there's no excuse money-wise for somebody to not game on PC when faced with buying consoles. That's all considering they're dolts that buy shit new, though. Used prices are plummeting on everything except for Intel chips. Otherwise you can get 16-32gigs of ram (ddr3/4) for around $100; and the GTX 780 has taken a recent plummet, too. Just picked up an MSI Lightning 780 for 150 shipped. That, mixed with the 4th gen i7 (most expensive component @ $165) quad core/hyper threaded chip means I'm gaming comfortably for the next couple years easy with an all-in price of maybe 400-500 for EVERYTHING (case, components, monitors, mechanical keyboard, mouse, blah blah). Fuck bragging about new shit. The more you spend on a setup, the dumber it is concerning steep depreciation vs negligible benefits of staying ahead of the curve. It's certainly nice, but far from necessary for good results. Sorry, I'm slurpin' on 100 proof vodka and just super psyched about PC shit right now. My bad, y'all :3
@DeToxCommunity8 жыл бұрын
You realize that the "dolts" buying new are the reason you get anything used right?
@illitero8 жыл бұрын
ZabaZu You're right, of course. I'm "swimming in their wake", so to speak. But that's just how things work: there are ALWAYS those that buy for the sheer sake of being at that leading edge, and that is far from a smart thing to do for any number of reasons. Depreciation primarily, but the cost of early adoption often result in faults in hardware/software, defects, and downright failure of the product itself. But the value for those people is the personal satisfaction of being at the forefront. I'm not meaning to be as negative as my exuberant stupor may seem to exclaim. My use of "dolt" is more-so on the mentality of NEEEEEEDING to have the newest shit NOW. I mean, I don't mean to be _personally_ negative against them as individuals. The dude I bought the N780 off of is pretty cool :)
@illitero8 жыл бұрын
***** What's your point aside from being half right about what I am? When people only care about being realistic and non-committal with price vs. performance, shit like TDP/consumption and "used" don't always matter. It's not being misinforming, it's not being dedicated enough to really care. If it was the "best" just a couple years ago, why wouldn't it be valid now? I mean, aside from TEE-DEE-PEE and having been in somebody else's case prior to yours?
@naruhearts18 жыл бұрын
Buying used it pretty nice at times, i just Ordered a EVGA 1070 FTW for $384 used through Amazon warehouse deals $56 less than buying new and some Gigabyte versions are going for $100 less than buying new (about $340). So excited, upgrading from a GTX 570 2.5GB Normally id be wary of buying used expensive parts, but Amazon always does good on their returns if theres an issue.

How so? If anything, a benchmark would make you even more informed.
@teksyndicate8 жыл бұрын
We thought long and hard about this - what does a benchmark prove when comparing to something like a GTX 1080? It is just a given - it's going to underperform when compared to all its bigger brothers. Chances are if you're in the market for a GPU and you're stuck with a budget under $150 - the benchmark like that is just going to be a waste of your time. If you're in the market for a card like this, you're going to want to know one thing and one thing only - will it game? And we hope our video answered that. -Hutch
@tarcal878 жыл бұрын
+Tek Syndicate Wow... so comparing with other NVidia cards is the only option? Are you serious? If that doesn't reek *bias*, nothing does. How about a 460 for the same price? THAT is what this benchmark should have been. You either don't know what benchmarking aims at (aiding people to have informed decisions) or are simply biased. Either way you don't deserve 1 subscriber, let alone 500k.
@OfficialSolDios8 жыл бұрын
GaborBartal But they didn't do that. They showed you what you can play with the card. There are probably 100000x videos already of benchmarks or just goddam google it. This video is good because it fills the void and shows you what the experience you get with it.
@tarcal878 жыл бұрын
+Sol Dios The "just goddamn google it" response is silly, it's not about me but about everyone who finds this video with only a $100 ready. Yeah a showcase of a card would be "ok" if it wasn't a benchmark channel and his response wasn't about NVidia only - reading that made me flabbergasted.... (not mentioning its direct competitor and rather bring up how pointless it would be to compare against the... 10xx series!? How about the 460 ffs?). Something an amateur would say who only knows NVidia.
@MagnumForce518 жыл бұрын
This card seems to be a decent upgrade compared to my EVGA GTX 650 and that card only had 1GB of ram. Ram speed was less then half the speed and half the CUDA cores. The base/boost clock speeds are only 200-400MHZ slower then the 1050 though. But I paid $120+ for that card at the time and takes up twice the space. The 1050 being on latest gen tech and not needing a PCI-E Power connector (my older GTX 650 requires one unlike this one) means that this should be the next card I'll upgrade to. While some of the specs aren't a big jump, double the ram and the ram being twice as fast and the card being half the size and more power efficient means it should be worth it for me. :P I can't afford anything beyond $120 or so for a video card, so this card seems like the best choice for me when I want to get around to modernizing my video card again. I've had my 650 for 2+ years I think. It's time I replace it. :P My machine is on a first generation i7 though. (Asus P6T motherboard) A i7 quad core 965 3.2 ghz CPU. It can do overclocking but never felt a need to do that so it's on it's normal clock. Plus being first generation, it's not power efficient and will heat up significantly if I try to overclock it. So I won't. :P The PCI-E 16x slots are PCI-E 2.0 I think. So I'm wondering how much further I can push things before I saturate the slot and further upgrades become useless. Will the 1050 saturate this old slot or is there still a future upgrade beyond that? It's unbelievable how much life I got out of this machine. I did replace the mobo once (with same exact model) as a couple USB ports died and I fried the rear audio port. :P) But the ram/CPU I've had since like 2011-2012. Been so long I don't recall. It's aged much better then the older generation machines like my mother's 3ghz P4. That dinosaur manages to run Windows 10 but even on a SSD that thing is slow. :P My machine outlived my ***king SSD. My OCZ Octane 1 died recently (BIOS hangs trying to detect it and gives up after a minute) and I had that SSD for a year to a year and half max. :( Even though the SSD died I had a 4 month old backup. So techinically I haven't reinstalled Windows 7 on this machine since 2012. There might have been a older Win7 install that predates this (it's still on my spare platter drive) but that one didn't last long. I had WinXP 64bit on this machine at first when I first build it. Of coarse I have since updated to Win7. Have no plans on ever using Windows 10. My mother uses that OS, but I won't touch it with a 10 foot pole. The data collection policies + the terrible UI design means Win7 will probably be the last Windows OS I'll ever use. I'll probably migrate to Linux or die of old age with this machine still running Windows 7. :P Well in any case, on medium settings GTA 5 runs reasonably well at 1080p (only recently got a full 1080p monitor. Had a 1680x1050 monitor for the longest time). Dolphin emulator runs games fine on this setup too. A 1050 may speed things up even better. :D

I see New Egg has the Sapphire Nitro Fury Tri-X on sale for $260 down from $380. Is it worth going for over an equivalently priced 8gb RX480? Even though it doesn't support stuff like WattMan and what not. Power savings isn't really a big deal to me, I just want high performance that'll last for a bit. I figured since I have two 1080p monitors that I would have the ability to upgrade my monitors in the future and still get good performance out of it. Though I need to make up my mind soon since the sale ends Saturday. :)

you said that playing fallout 4 with mods is when the card would fail, I don't know much about pc's, but would lowering the settings allow it to run mods easier?

The indie games aren't inferior, they just aren't as demanding. They put more into story and character than the AAA titles as opposed to the AAA titles pouring tons of cash into making you pour tons of cash into a rig specced enough to run the game at decent fps. To quote Einstein, “Everybody is a genius. But if you judge a fish by its ability to climb a tree, it will live its whole life believing that it is stupid. The question I have for you at this point of our journey together is, What is your genius?”

If you were to choose between zotac 1050 or palit 1050, which is better? Zotac costs 2$ more. They have the same specs. Single fan, 2gb vram.

I haven't been keeping track of the drama so the dislike bar and comments took me by surprise. I'd just like to say Tek Syndicate was one of the main reasons I even decided to build my PC, and it was one of the best decisions I ever made. Sad to see this go down like this.

As long as you pair this with a pretty good cpu, you can easily get 60 fps on higher settings

Please can someone explain to me why there are so many different version of a gtx 1050 (and video cards in general). For example Gigabyte, zotac, palit, asus, evga and msi all sell a 'gtx 1050'. What is the difference? Will they all work in the same build? Which one performs best? Which one is cheapest? How can they all be the same card but made by different companies? Which one should I buy for an i3 6100, Gigabyte GA-H110M-S2H, 8gb ram build? Any help is appreciated.
