72% of Tekton tools come from Taiwan. A shipping container now costs 3 times what it did less than 2 years ago. That along with other fast rising costs have to have an effect. Their stuff is still amazingly priced, by a long shot.

I will say I agree with you on the price increases, I feel everyone is in a tough spot. I’m sure tektons pricing for materials and transport have sky rocketed along with the inflation . The fact they are still bringing more tools to the USA in a very difficult market along with increased competition for the same Chinese companies pumping out crap onto Amazon. Hopefully the bundles bring more people into the company and they hold them with their rewards, warranty and customer service. My biggest fear honestly is them being in Lowe’s. That retail space comes with a price. I worry Lowe’s will force tekton to start sacrificing quality to maintain profit levels. Many of these companies have had to sacrifice their quality and morals to maintain space in these big stores. If that happens, hopefully they can survive off Amazon and their site

I do actually enjoy the new impact sockets. But you are right on the huge jump in price from the old to new versions. My justification for buying them is that the insides are a little more complex and yet the sets are cheaper than tool truck brands AND the "economic" brands they sell like grey pnumatic for example. The Mac truck wanted almost 200 bucks for a 3/8 impact socket set ranging from 8mm to 19 deep and shallow, where tekton has one from 6mm to 24 with 3 extensions and the case for around 140.

Something people are forgetting, and I'm not trying to get political here, but our money is absolutely worthless. It's losing value more every day, and with the way the world economy has committed suicide, and is printing money as fast as the machines can do it, we're only in for worse. qIf you didn't make a 5.4% raise this past year, you didn't even keep up with inflation. Now imagine trying to keep up in a very competetive market where a few bucks can make or break you. It's a rough landscape. Building things in North America is always going to cost more due to environmental controls, higher priced labor, benefits, unions, etc. that other countries do not have to deal with, and it's only shooting up. Everyone will be charging more soon if they haven't already. Personally, I value service and support just as much as I do tool quality, and that helps me make the decision on what to buy.

Great video, I've been into Tekton for about 2 years now. One thing that nobody seems to talk about is the reach they had in retail stores. Meijer carried Tekton until about a year ago which blew me away when I found that out. I wonder if it was Meijer's idea to drop them, or if Tekton couldn't meet demand for that market with current supply issues. Now Stanley tools reside in Tekton's former place. I admit I scored great deals as Meijer was clearancing Tekton out (50% off), but it sucks not being able to get their tools in brick and mortar stores locally. Their squeeze clamps are my favorite!!

You said it in the beginning, the horrible inflation and price of steel has increased the cost of everything. You can't really blame these companies for raising their prices in order to stay in business. As a business owner, I have to pass this increase on to the end user/customer. I now have to pay more for fuel, labor, materials etc. I can not sell houses or repairs etc., for the same prices I could 6 months ago to a year ago. My profit margin has not increased AT ALL. In fact, on some jobs, it is being cut, just to be able to get some of the jobs. So, NO, I do not see anywhere in these decisions are made to Increase Profits by these smaller, discount brands/businesses. You can not compare other tool brands due to quality, as well as volume and loss leaders.

I don't know their financials. However, I would be surprised if they actually increased margins (profit) over the past 6 months. Given logistics and material cost increases, labor costs that's more than just manufacturing labor-- many corporations are getting squeezed. Bundling saves them, be it a small %, shipping costs. I get what you're saying, but the reality is that most people want a set or a tool. Tekton wants to sell a bundle of several kinds of tools and sets, but most people are buying a 3/8 drive set at $50-100, not a whole 56" toolbox full at $1500. I kind of mind that they upped the price, but it also doesn't make a huge difference (and it's still better than saying "it's out of stock" or "we had to increase the price for 'inflation'" (I'm looking at you harbor freight). Those ARE legit things, but increasing the price 2% or 5% is much better than jacking it up 20% and calling it inflation

A Snap on tool box of equivalent size is anywhere from $5200 to well north of $10000. Well made in Canada comes at a bit of a price. Otherwise its Harbor Freight.
@TonyTheTechnician3 жыл бұрын
Yes indeed. While snap on is very expensive they also have a reputation for boxes and alot of customization options. Not many have been able to get hands on tekton boxes. While it is fantastic that they are made in Canada and industrial grade and very well built. Not many are willing to drop a couple grand on something they haven't seen or touched. But you are right they are a far better price then the snap on and better quality than the hf boxes.

Inflation is crushing them. I don’t think this is profit at all. They are probably taking a hit.
@TonyTheTechnician2 жыл бұрын
I don't think so either. I think just like many others it's what is necessary to survive. I'm sure profit margins are minimal. So I completely understand the increase. Just like what we are seeing with most other companies and products 👍

If people stopped buying there tools they would lower the price but everyone dont care so they put up the prices and it will continue until people stop buying them.
When did Tekton go with the smaller head 90 tooth ratchets? Also any other changes over the last couple years with their 3-Set 1/4”, 3/8”, & 1/2” sockets. I see they’re $450 right now.

Is that 3rd gen a 91 or 92?

Looks like a 91 or 92 but it's actually an 85. Previous owner installed the ground effects when they painted the car I believe

I think the reason Tekton (and Icon) tool carts and cabinets aren't selling as much is that people have already become used to a certain level of quality for that price range. When you go to Harbor Freight, you expect the tools to last a certain amount of time, and the price is low enough to easily be able to replace them. Tekton initially was the same way, but with a far better warranty for slightly more if you were willing to wait for it to arrive in the mail. Now that they have stepped up their game, it will take time for customers to realize the improvement in quality, and be willing to pay the extra cost.

The increase in price is reflected by the inflation of every other market around the globe. I believe the intention is to cause a global market crash and reset. That's a different discussion though. It's a domino effect through the market supply chain. Supply and demand... + The cause and effect is... = The increase in cost to mine raw materials. The shipping and processing of those raw materials. The increasing rise in fuel cost. The cost to maintain and improve or create new production lines in various markets and industries. The added cost to create and implement new equipment in different industrial settings. The further increase in cost that's required to meet the consumer demand for new and improved products. The increasing consumer demand for cheaper and more affordable products. Smdh. The loss of workplace personal and the hike in wage needed to offset and compensate global market inflation. The still increasing rise in fuel cost. Bullshit. The increasing price of food and cost of living. I gotta eat if I'm going to work. Did I forget anything. Alright alright. I'm done ranting. Now I'm just getting worked up for no reason. Those are my thoughts anyway. Anyone else care to chime in.
