A fisherman should be one of the Villagers. Fishermen would be the quickest way to get food other than farming wheat. They could also bring in so much more with all the magical and/or alchemical stuff. Plus need to fish up those boots for my guard!

What if you had the kids sometimes help out their parents in the jobs? For example the Chef’s kid might be a delivery kid sending cooked food to the item storage Farmer: harvest ( but wouldn’t hoe or plant) Lumberjack: plant sappling These would act as chores for the kids lowering their happiness but increasing work experience

You should change kids, to every so often, they watch adults work, that will give kids some happiness and skill, and happiness for adults. And make kids want more sweet stuff

Jan Šuštar maybe they'll follow their mother/father and watch them work, and if the parent is happy they could give a small 'lesson' to them on their job, giving the kids a hidden skill point. It would probably slow down the villager and they should have to be at least level 20 in their profession to teach their kid a little, but it would be a nice touch.

One small idea Make it so that tamed wolves and cats can be given to villagers. The animals would have a happiness effect on them, along with providing protection like they normally would.

maybe there could be a item you could craft that moves a already tamed wolf or cat to a villager and another one that moves them to you. also making a animal move from one villager to another villager will make the villager that originally owned it very sad and have a negative debuff that decreases happiness gains and increases happiness losses that lasts for a few days.

Have a kennel item that you can put in a house, the pet should bond with the whole family rather than with an individual.

Make it so the child gets an interest in a profession depending on he/she has been close to a certain villager like his/her parents.

That's about the way it used to be realistically. There would be a carpenter, blacksmith, etc that would take on an aoprentice. Maybe Tango could add a stage to the villager's growth: teenager. Much like the nitwits, they wouldn't really do anything, would basically freeload, and they will have pretty much gained as much education as they are going to so no school. Only, there would be a chance of them 'gaining an interest' in a certain profession. The conditions: there needs to be a villager already doing this, that villager needs to constantly stay at an average of a certain level of happiness, and the teen needs to be at or above a certain intelligence level. Then once the teen grows into an adult, they automatically become said worker in the profession they took interest in. For free. Of course, the conditions have various variables in order to be meetable(tavern/bard, good food, high level teacher, etc.) and is thusly balanced out. If the conditions are met, the teen would have a greater chance of choosing the parent's profession rather than another's. Edit: as a side note, maybe the teens could follow around and watch the profession they take interest in, this giving them a slight boost in levels of said profession, up to a maximum of five. You saw how quickly the farmwrs leveled up on day one. They were hitting level ten in no time.

Mdb Gamer I think it shouldn’t be free and the child’s skill should increase for the parent’s profession instead, if that makes sense. For example, the parent could be a farmer. In this case, the child would get farming skill until they become an adult. This way, the player still gets to decide what profession the child becomes.

@@nolanh8607 Yeah, this is what I was thinking myself; give them skill in that profession, but don't necessarily *force* them to become that profession. It could also be made to happen with multiple villagers, so a child could end up with pre-existing skills in a couple different professions. Which would just be awesome.

Maybe baby villagers could pick up mushrooms and flowers that they see, and they give it to their parents, which put it in the storage room.

If you have multiple valid kitchens, will the Chefs split evenly? Or will they mindlessly gather in One and make it beautiful crowded? Oh, and i would like Mushrooms in my Village too.

Tango for the upstairs portion of the tavern it could be an inn, so if you see a nomad from leaving the next day with really good skills you can keep him. He could also give you like an emerald or two each night.

I said something similar about food. They could stick around a couple days and give an emerald for food. They'd be like the average jobless adult villager basically freeloading, only they'd be paying to stick around.

I want a Bakery, but that's not possible because the cook can only work in the tavern. That's making me sad.

Want to comment this too, because I have a similar idea: Market stands, for some merchants maybe stop by for a day so you can find them. At night, they could stop at the inn's beds too!

@@slevinchannel7589 This would be cool and maybe replace the taverns function to supplying drink (with a thirst metre?) and a brewery to supply it? That way the tavern has a function but you could have a bakery seperate as well

Nice idea! There should also be to outhouses. Food makes them have to go more, the longer they hold it in, the sadder they are, and going makes them more happy 😂😂😂

There should be a guard tower structure, which certain guards man at specific times of day with bows, and they should light a netherrack block in it when a group of enemies are spotted.

I think for the pricing system, it should also be dynamic in a way that if you lose villagers (with work) that the prices would drop. Also people become sad when someone dies, and become happy when theres a new member (born or nomad)

Ranchers could have rabbits and those rabbits would have to be caught, but wild rabbits could be scared off or hunted.

Carrots are useless anyway. They make villagers unhappy and can't be cooked. They're only good for selling. Edit: I forgot about golden carrots. Oops.

Tango Tek, please add it so miners also take the cobblestone. This would really help create more structures because otherwise you would have to mine it all yourself which would take time. You said yourself you were going to build a wall around your village and building that takes quite some time, but getting the resources takes even more time and you won't have to mine the cobblestone for the wall, but we do so it would really help if miners also took the cobblestone. Amazing job man!

Tango, I will keep saying, in hopes you notice: try to implement a MARKET structure, where merchants can sometimes stop for a day, so when the village is too large you know where to find some! Building suggestion

or they can just stop at the town hall rather than making a separate structure. In that way the towhalls would have a bit more purpose to them.

How about spawning of multiple villagers who could sell tokens? And each have different pricing, so you could look through each of them and take best offer. Then other tradesmen could adapt and lower slightly prices so you could come to them instead of rival tradesman. Maybe add some sort of "Hotel" building, where nomads could stop for a day before they despawn? Maybe it could raise a chance to get Nomads overall? Having place they could stop by makes those places way more attractive than... wild forest filled with monsters. EDIT: obviously for testing purposes it would make more sense to leave this as one of last things to test, otherwise trying to find good offer just to buy tokens you need would take a bit longer...

Could villagers develop friendships of a sort with each other. I’m not sure if it’s already a feature but if they go to a tavern after work to get happiness, interacting with other villagers could do the same. But it depends on how easily villagers lose happiness, from the last few videos they all seem to end up with low happiness by the end of a day, so if a villager interacted with villagers while at work they would gain a small amount of happiness. It would help when someone starts of their village and can’t afford a tavern. And instead of children just running around they could watch their parent work and gain skill in that profession for when they get older

Maybe the children could even try helping, where they’ll gain skill faster as they’re younger (real science proves it’s easier to learn when you’re young) with the penalty of the work getting done slower, the parent might gain happiness though

Its been said before but I'll say it again. Adding idle animations to the villagers would really add to the immersion. Now they are just constantly wandering. Having them stop here and there and just do various idle animations would be a nice addition!

@@Otzkar Could maybe not have them do the idle animations while... not... idle, so they don't do it while working, but having things like some hand motion animation as two villagers chat in their house at night could definitely spice things up a bit.

You could speed up their jobs... and then add their idle animations in those jobs as well, so it cancels themself out (kinda). It's not like it takes half the day just to gather all potatoes from one meter square, all while not taking a single break other than on eating said raw potatoes. Some people are just inefficient in life, it could make sense if villagers weren't efficient in game as well.

It feels odd that the chef can make charcoal. "What have you got cooking?" "Oh, just some taters and a log." That's not really a thing a chef would do. It could just use logs till you have enough other fuel. How about having the blacksmith do the charcoal smelting, that would feel more logical. It has the additional effect that getting a miner (coal) feels like an upgrade to the chef, and so does getting a blacksmith later on, so dependacy for workabillaty, but getting better as the village progresses. Much like the farmers.

Beautiful mod! An extra tip though: - make it so pathways are slightly faster (about 10%) so that thay prefer walking over paths - make is so chests crafting tables furnaces leaves etc are blocks that in the movement ai gets detected as a block where you cant go through but neither over it Edit: - stairs make you slower and 1 block jumps make you really slow so if you have blocks as decoration they wont walk over it

Not to sure about the stair change, especially with the stairs down to the mineshaft. But there needs to be some sort of detection that within buildings, height changes effect pathfinding. But that also depends on if he implements multiple levels within one building.

@@thanosattorneyatlaw4062 Now that i look back at it, yea the speeds shouldnt be changed, but maybe he can put it in the code, that the villager thinks he will be slower and wont pass over it but actually isnt slower at all, to just make the villager go the "normal" direction.

since MC have biome specific villiagers now, we could also have biome specific skins. Maybe nomads from different biomes will have different base skills.

I think you could add something like a book (a menu like in state of decay) with the info of your village,like 5 villagers 6 beds,their current work etc ..

Idea:The children are able to pick up flowers and give them back to their parents as a gift and the villagers (parents) happiness will increase.

Tango you should make the miner have chance to drop cobblestone so the villagers can make stone tools I think it should have to do with there level like the farmer with the soil

I think there should be a way to tell the miner to keep the cobblestone. As it stands it's almost pointless to have miners as they delete tons of it. I would have normally used for building projects.

Tango, you should make trees grown by druids spawn with mushrooms beneath them. The farmer can the harvest these "opportunity mushrooms" but won't plant them. This way the chef gets mushrooms to make stews now and then, but it's not as though the villagers are drowning in mushroom stew.

Possible Idea: a market stall (or something similar) that the Merchant walks to and trades everything in a designated chest, leaving emeralds in another chest. That way you don't have to catch the merchant every day to trade, just put items you don't need in the trade chest

This could be another villager job, too. You could set priorities like "buy item X until we have at least 100 in reserve" or "sell item Y to the merchant, but don't sell for less than 3 emeralds" and thus you could have your villagers run the economy, since you put so much else into the hands of villagers gradually, this would be awesome. They could also boost your prices a little, by making highly skilled traders with loads of job experience reduce the dynamic pricing hit slightly so they will sell just a few items more without lowering the price, or have a slight skill-based chance to generate an extra emerald after a trade, as they are better at haggling with the travelling merchant than you are. The economy is basically the only place I can think of besides building that you still need to micromanage and babysit your town over, and every bit of "automation", or having your villagers do it according to your directions is cool.

Suggestion for guards once you do the episode: allow them to use bows and block arrows with shields. Let them move faster when wearing lower quality armor. (Leather armor would move faster then heavier armor and allow archers to back away faster to fire arrows while the sword guards use heavy armor to keep the mobs at bay.

This mod is still being made in 1.12, I'm sure he is already prepared for the future updates. But he will need to wait for forge to update first. That might be the last thing he does is update it for the new version before releasing it.

The chef is probably looking for an activated or deactivated furnace (they are sepreate blocks), so all he would have to change is the ID the chef is looking for, that's less than one line of code.

An idea for the chef, at night, when everyone's at the tavern: If the chef makes food, he can deliver it to the bar, where a villager can pick it up, bring it to his table, ant happily devour it. Maybe the villagers can even tell the chef if they want a happy food or a hungry food, and he can make the food accordingly.

Hey Tango love the mod so far but i have an ide on something you can add to the child behavior, if you could make so that they have an interest so they go and visit certain workers and the workers get some kind of inspiration and walk faster work faster and get some happiness or you could just make it so children go around and socialise with adults and give them some happiness.

Is there any way for villages to interact with each other? Maybe there could be a travelling salesman allowing villages to trade with each other, especially if the community storage is low on a certain resource. Maybe if a villager is too unhappy, and unable to work, they could move to a new village. Maybe if a village is under a large zombie siege, they could request backup. I just think having villages interact brings a lot more life to the world.

I was wondering if you could make a "hobby" system based on the villager's latent and inactive skills. For example, a miner who also has a skill level in farming may on occasion do some farming if there are plenty of other miners/high output of ores/break time. Maybe they can occasion share tips or tricks with other farmers of a lower skill level if the miner's "farming hobby" is particularly high. Maybe if the miner claims the nearest chest to his bed they can fill it with item related to their profession and "hobbies", like their pickaxe and perhaps keepsakes like their hoe from when they were a farmer or if they have a farming "hobby". If there is plenty of hoes in the storage vs professional farmers in the village, maybe the miner will go and pick one up and have it in their personal storage. I feel like this will kind of give them a past and a personality based on their past interests and professions.

I have suggestion: Villages should have random skill drops. I think that Villages with skill level 100 are too OP, and intelligence is not important as it should be. Solution for this is that Villagers will randomly lose some of their skill in the current profession. This will happen more often if villager is unhappy, an he will lose more skill higher his skill level is. Skill drops will make intelligence more important, because higher it is, faster will villager get to 100 again

Did you think about adding tokens to apply them on the chests from the storage? For example a token for each job so we can have a better storage management. Then in case we need to take track of the production of a specific item we dont need to check every chest.

If something like this isn't implemented, you could also look at the storage from a redstone perspective. With the way pathfinding works, you could manipulate the villagers to place items in the same one chest every time. Then with redstone, hoppers and all that, you could create a sorter, that sorts all the items into specific chests. As long as this is still within the building, but at a further distance than the input chest, villagers would collect the items from these sorted chests and not mess up the sorting.

That could technically be done without the need of code changes, definitely a neat idea. It would also be interesting if it had a different use for things like nomads, they have a random chance to stay a night instead of disappearing. Regarding cobblestonemining... I think it would be cool if one could give the miners a special order to collect cobblestone. By activating a "collect stone" button in their inventory or something like that. It should be an option to turn on/off ingame whenever you want, because not all players want to have that feature enabled all the time, yet still it would be very useful. Alternatively you could add a "cobble stone" token to one of the chests in the storage room and if this chest is filled with cobble or the token is removed, miners stop mining cobble. Just some ideas. :)

You have to remember Tango is taking it very slow and explaining things as he goes along. Plus he is making changes which are definitely effecting the villagers in ways he wouldn't have expected. You would be able to progress much faster if you wanted to, and give the villagers more of a helping hand by providing them with goods.

Tango, here's a small suggestion Add a defence / attack bar to villagers Regular villagers the bar would Make it kinda like a 'bravery' bar, The levels in it would allow them to hit monsters for a certain amount before fleeing. Guards would basicly have a high amount evrey time, but butchers would be sorta like regular villagers, the more they hit animals, the more Harder, Better, Faster, Stronger they become doing it, but would flee when they hit zombies - like regular nitwits- Small suggestion, than you for reading

He's developing in 1.12.2 so he would have to make his own pillagers but if he does that it would be cool. When a pillager raid happens and you successfully defend from the pillagers, villagers could be able to loot the dead pillager bodies for items that they can't normally get such as string, and also be able to loot for items they can get but are rare like diamonds. Also what if guards can take pillagers to a new jail building and interrogate them to find out where their village is and you can pillage their village for loot.

Great work Tango!! Maybe something to think about for a future update (not the initial release) would be a courier villager. (Suggestion) Yo Tango Tek, I know I put in alot of suggestions but I'm just very hyped and have very much idea's for the mod. My idea is you can request items, meaning, that in the storage room you can request an item by clicking on a request button and customizing your requested item, which the villagers will create. You can only pick item in the customizer which your villagers can make so no enchanter means you can't pick an enchanted weapon. Making this requested item will take slightly longer since the villagers will put more effort in to making something for their mayor. At the Salesman you have to buy something and put it on a chest which will become the request chest were the villagers put their requested items in which they crafted. The amount of emeralds it would cost would depend on how expensive the materials are. The more requests you make the more expensive they get. Hopefully you add this and I just want to say you have an amazing mod Tango!

There still appears to be an issue with walking into doors when they have opened the wrong half of a double door! I was thinking you could program in so that when villagers open, or close, one side of a double door, they open both doors rather than just the one? That might help with the path finding.

Tango, you should generate random personalities for the villagers. Example, some might be nocturnal or eats only sweets.

To be fair, being nocturnal, while the village has absolutely no guards and protection is rising all the death flags.

This is a very nice idea! Villagers recruited from nomads could have random traits. Those that are grown from children have a chance to gain traits depending on their child life and parental trait(s). This would cause the player to give more careful thought to whom they hire for what purposes, and help each village be a little more different from all the others. *Snob - gains or loses happiness more than usual, depending on the size of their house and how many other villagers (non family) live there. They may also lose happiness faster in 'low class' jobs, such as farmer. Non family tend to lose minor happiness when interacting with them. -Can be inherited from parent randomly, or a chance to gain it by growing up in a posh house. *Humble - Feels uncomfortable in a large house, prefers smaller abodes. Gains happiness in lower class jobs. other people tend to gain happiness when interacting with them. -Can be inherited from parent, or by growing up in a smaller home. *Glutton - Has a chance to make extra quality food. Has a higher hunger need, so needs to eat more often. Food negativity affects them more. - Can be inherited from parent, or by growing up in a village abundant with quality food. *Thrifty *Peppy - A larger happiness bonus when interacting with others. Their presence 'buffs' the mood of those around them temporarily. -Can be inherited from parent, or by just growing up. *Downer *Ambitious *Lazy *Alcoholic - Drinking in the tavern increases mood a bit more than usual. Tends to head to the tavern during the day. Other alcoholics gain mood boosts when socializing with them, teetotalers lose mood boosts. *Teetotaler *Stalwart *Coward ... etc. If there's interest in this idea and it's considered by Tango Tek, I would love to put more work into more possible traits, with better balances, rewards, penalties, and usefulness.

@@slightlyocdminecraft4418 As good as it sounds, it's probably very hard to implement. Lots of new code writing, making it balanced, new bugs to squash. It's a big change.

Idea:make it so villagers go to the town hall if they have concerns (not enough food,safety,education of there kids etc.)

Would be really cool if weather affected hunger and happiness too. In cold environments you need more calories, and working out in the rain makes people sour.

Okay eating a cake or a golden carrot is definitely gonna make the villagers happy But having the same repetitive food all the time maube gets them to be bored of it ? If you could also manage to make the happiness that your villagers get change the more they eat from the same food That'd be interesting

Couple questions about player interactions. I what happens if a player sleeps in a villager bed? Can players sit in the chairs?

A player and villager can sleep in the same bed at the same time, it doesn't effect anything. No you can not sit in a chair. Source: previous dev streams from Tango.

You have said that you will increase the cost of the tokens based on how many class tokens you buy. However what happens when you start swapping your villagers jobs around. Suddenly you are paying large sums of money without having grown as a city. Also what happens if you keep loosing villagers, you'll be stuck with a noobs village paying pro prices. How about instead of charging per purchase you charger based on the number of villagers?

I have an idea that could make finding stuff in the storage room much easier: 1) Have the ability to create multiple storage rooms. 2) Have the ability to control which professions put the items that they produce in that storage room. Not each individual chest, the whole building. This would only be for putting items in, not taking them out - any villager could take any item out of any storage building. There are a few ways I imagine you could implement this: A) right-click on the storage room label (the one in the item frame above the door) and have a GUI pop up to let you select which professions to allow; B) use a profession token on the storage room label, and maybe have it show next to the storage room symbol; C) drop a profession token on top of one of the chests in the storage room.

I saw another comment that said if you put an item frame on a chest and then put something on that item frame the villagers will only put that item into that chest. I think that would be a pretty cool idea.

@@ERN468. I personally don't love that idea, because it means that you would need a LOT of item frames and a LOT of chests to have decent storage, especially since villagers don't make a ton of items. I think it would probably be better than the current system, though.

I just think that the current system is very limited, and there's a lot that could be improved upon. I think the main thing is that I want to be able to put similar professions near each other (miner + blacksmith, cook + farmer, etc) without them having to go to the same central storage system, and back again, which wastes a lot of time. This is especially inconvenient for anyone who wants to make a larger village.

I've had an idea that I thought you might like to see...the kids!!!... what if after they go to school (or before you get a school) they could "shadow" a worker (follow them around) and gain a little bit of skill. And I was wondering if you could have multiple villages in the same world...if so how far do they have to be away from each other?

Hey just an idea, I'd love to be able to control what houses are for what villages, so maybe could it be that Villagers would sleep as close to their workstation as possible? it would save on walking times and you could personalizes the houses you make :D

Tyler D A-F not really cause they would still be going to the storage room and tavern everyday it would only stop them walking across the village once, when they get up because they would all go to the tavern before bed so they would still be walking across the village to go to sleep

Jamie Ex0 Jesus, there won’t be any ”late game”. This is isn’t a stand alone game that you will play for days and days, it’s just a cool little mod that you’ll play for 1-2 hours. Don’t understand why everyone is so excited about this like it’s an upcoming AAA-game. I’m just fascinated by seeing how tango has coded the villiger AI.

@@jensb3946 First of all, watch your tone. Secondly, I disagree as this mod has potential to be both long term and replayable, if implemented correctly. Finally, Tango has specifically talked about multiple villages being intended and he has also talked about features being "late game".

Tango why don't u make the children have some kind of "atraction" to something, for example if the child likes standing near a farm, when the child grows up he has the skill thingamajig boosted on farming
