I watched several times and followed along on my 2235 and an audio generator and finally understand, thank you so much.

13:20 VERTICAL MODE : When vertical mode is selected the vertical control knobs are used as the source of the trigger instead of the standard trigger knob P.P. AUTO AND NORM (The Difference) There are subtle differences that realistically won't matter too much and generally speaking AUTO is going to be preferred. but here are the differences P.P. Auto is designed specifically for troubleshooting TV Signals meaning if a signal is below 20Hz it won't trigger on it regardless where as Norm would trigger on it . it needs the signal to be above 20Hz. Also in the absense of a valid signal the trace "free runs " NORM : This will trigger on any freqency, However.. IN THE ABSENSE OF A A VALID SIGNAL IT WILL NOT DISPLAY A TRACE ON SCREEN. the idea of Norm is that the triggering will be more stable but it throws people because in an analog C.R.O. 1. You can't see the trigger line physically on the screen 2. when there is no signal it will display no trace and this the person decides that something is not working correctly :P that's the difference

I think you have the generic P6100 probes. I got one of these scopes from my Dads friend but no probes. Just ordered some.

Thank you for your time to explain. I found it useful, as I am considering buying one. I didn't quite understand how you' ve connected the probe to the headphones jack of the laptop. I suppose it doesn't have digital storage, otherwise you would have mentioned it. Thank you, Paul

No digital storage, no analog storage!

The way you connect a scope probe to a headphone jack is simple. A Headphone jack will work on a TIP and RING concept, You have your Positive and your negative , 1. So you get a cable that you can cut and plug one side of it in the headphone jack 2. Cut the cable in the middle somewhere. You will have 2 wires. Get a Multimeter out and do a continuity test to confirm which whire is the centre pin and which is the shield (or in the case of Bands) which band is + or - 3. You then connect the Positive of your probe to the positive wire and the ground of the probe to the negative wire that's it, Pretty straight forward

Why do some probes require a screw to adjust the capacitance (to get a well formed waveform) while your probe didn't?

Did you also use the computer to get the square wave?

so.. TEKTRONIX is spelt like that, not as Tektronics, yes it is important Why ? i'ts a TEK, it matters

I just found this in my dads stuff. What the heck did a this thing? A ham radio 📻?
@deltoid77-nick Жыл бұрын
This is used to analyze signals in general in electronics and even in radio it's not a radio it's just a way to see signals visually with voltage differences so you can understand what's going on inside your electronics.

if your dad was a ham radio operator then he used it to fix his equipment. Also it's useful for learning about signals and signal transmission which is why he had it. Ham radio operators are notorious for owning Cathode Ray Oscilloscopes, they are too much of a purist to own a Digital Storage Oscilloscope, Perish the thought :P
