Very interesting series! Unfortunately one VERY important factor was left out: Cost! It is clear that the Tek 2215A is a great scope. I have used many Tek scopes over the years in my professional career and I have been very pleased with them. They do cost a pile though so when it came time for me to purchase a personal scope I ended up with a Philips PM3214 which is essentially identical to the PM3217 except it has a bandwidth of 25 MHz. instead of 50 MHz. It seemed at the time to be a reasonable cost/performance trade off. I have been very happy with the PM3214 and it serves me well to this day. For what it is worth, I also used a few HP scopes during my career and I was never very happy with them. HP used to make some pretty good equipment, but their scopes didn't seem to be among them.

Gosh that film is 39 years old. I've a 2430 from circa 1990 and it's a dinger !

The price is what killed Tektronix. Nobody, except big companies could afford it.
