Tampons were made exempt from VAT because they are essential not optional. Private schools can be exempt from VAT when they are an essential, not optional purchase

When huge private school fee rises due to the massive inflation of the last 2 years have been passed on to parents, where were all these arguments then? Where were the schools closing down and the massive exodus of students into the state sector? When the free market raises costs it is deemed unfortunate. When the government does it to help 95% of the country it's suddenly horrifying. Give me a break

Cry move. The question isn't will vat on private school fees will improve public schools. The question is why should private schools get a vat exemption. There is no way to justify a tax exemption for a luxury product like private education

@@edwardhammond5582Because most food are not luxurious items, exempting them from VAT is helping the poor and promoting healthy diet, luxurious or pre-packaged food do need to pay VAT. Most people going to private school is well off enough to pay the fee without subsidies and lower middle classes still can’t afford to go even with the VAT exemption.

In return for the tax exemptions these schools were required by the Charities Commission to provide certain benefits to State Schools which of course they do.

Each pupil in state school costs 8k a year, any gain in vat revenue will be offset by the increased numbers in state schools.

UK private schools are now opening schools in Dubai, Qatar and Middle East. Bigger, cheaper and modern. Labour won’t get £1.1 billion I bet my mortgage on that.

I'm afraid Tim's right - it's Government control, and the attendant erosion of parental choice for our children's futures. I visited a school in Slovakia. Its fabric was tatty and the interior uninspiring, complete with faded stakhanovite slogan posters. Starmer would have loved it.

Private schools should be abolished as they entrench priviledge and unfairness. There should be equality of opportunity to succeed in life. If all went to state schools the standards in them would raise to ensure all schools deliver a great education for pupils. Current private school parents would demand good standards/resources. Society too would be more cohesive as it is good for people to mix across classes. It would reduce division in society which causes so much problems within the UK. Also I think education should be secular. No separate schools for different religions as this again causes society division and distrust of each other.

Do not blame government. It is a holy biblical event same as evidence what happened to the Noah Arc, sodom and gomora. Most people today are fearless with God. Out of millions of religion nowadays there is only true and one religion and they are following the law of Christ by not adding or deducting his holy words.

We all should have a good education ' it shouldn't just be for the priveledge ' this is why the poorer cant contribute more ' then the rightwinger uses this for when theres a cost of living ' just so they can point fingers at others ie poorer people 🤷‍♂️

why? and all these parents that are paying and then their school becomes state, do the state pay those parents back who contributed to these excellent facilities that the state will then endure? if not, that is called stealing.
