And in my opinion, that's why it's important to ' allow ' the person to engage you. TRY TO ALWAYS get out of a situation, but if there's no hope of getting away, keep space which is your advantage because as the person engages, they are focused on attack and not defending which is to our advantage. But yes, in from a straight stand still position, your mind has to be on the ready. Relax ..... practice so you don't have to think about it which is another way that can lead to telegraphing because then you'd be unsure and uncertain of the movement which would give it away your intentions. Great lessons

Very nice explanation! I think an additional common misunderstanding is that a feint is an attack you don't want to land. The purpose is to make a move that your opponent thinks is an attack and makes him react. That does not mean you need to execute a real lead punch or kick with proper technique. On the contrary, you might want to use very bad technique when initiating your feint finger jab so your opponent cannot overlook it.

In my opinion, JKD focuses on creating blind spots, and then taking appropriate and effective volleys. However, this is usually very difficult because, first of all, you do not let the enemy see through, and also, not be hindered by the enemy. Only work, must, follow up am i right sifu Thomas?

Great video. So Thomas, on that hammering principle...in the street you can get into this position by putting up your hands as a "fence", in position and ready to go as you talk to desculate the situation or it maybe as simple as saying "hey back up", "stop "," I don't want any problems", etc. This palms out towards your opponent is a simple barrier that gets your hands closer to target without looking like your engaging for a fight. Close quarters combat uses this tactic for getting in close for a surprised ambush on the opponent. I know that this isn't the JKD way but just showing you can get that hand into position with a little talk and misdirection. 🙃

However, you should be able to attack without telegraphing from any position not depending on in arm position. By lifting the arms like in that clip, you can absolutely warn your opponent, that you can defend yourself.

@@ThomasMarxJKD Hmm, your correct...not the point I am addressing here and texting sucks at communication....wish I was face to face to be clear. What I am saying is this...you made a comment in your video about this hammering position which is ideal in getting your lead hand in front and I'm saying negotiating with verbal distraction allows you to get there.

I am so thankful to be seeing these vids after wanting to know what Bruce Lee did after forty years of wanting to know. Pretty sad, huh? At the same time, this stuff is so good I wish you would keep it a secret. :-)

@@dilshankavinda9911 You can condition the finger tips as a part of iron palm training. But that's a kind of over kill, because the target is soft any ways, and you would also loose the feel of your fingertips kind a guitar player on his left hand. Better is doing stuff line push ups on finger to strengthen the tendons there, and finger gripper may be...

@@ThomasMarxJKD I understand the strategy what I what to know is when do you attack. I can understand if someone is trying to hit you but when a situation escalates where the other person gets heated when do you throw the punch. If you wait until they throw their punch and it connects then the fight is half over because 90% of the time the person who hits first wins.

hello, in my opinion telegraphing opens the way for the real shot ... telegraphing without after acting means giving the opponent a way to take advantage of our opening instead it should be in the opposite ... we telegraphing we open the passage from which to attack (as show in the video). different thing instead if we have to hit immediately .. in that case not telegraphing means acting in the correct way and going straight to the target. to telegraph or not to telegraph then? it depends on the situation and on what we want to do.
@ThomasMarxJKD3 жыл бұрын
What you refering to telegrafing is feinting. Telegraphing is unintentional making a movement.
@Perun.Tha.Unvaxxd3 жыл бұрын
@@ThomasMarxJKD Exactly. Bruce Lee explained the difference and why one doesn't telegraph(tell their opponent before the attack comes). Feinting in my opinion is from Fencing.
