Usually people don't have the decency to do their homework before judging something. Just as you explained, the mechanics of the jkd backfist is very different from the classic backfist that people are familiar with.

Thank you for another great piece of training advice . Awesome technique trimmed down to it's bare essentials. Very useful to cause damage , to distract ( feint) or to bridge the distance for more powerful blows .

Hit someone very fast and precise with a back fist and you can do serious damage to your opponent.

@@aquiredskill haha I don’t know about that man. I’m just trying to keep jkd alive by following the principles. Many people are unaware that Bruce moved beyond technique. Once you understand the goal is to hit primary targets in the shortest time possible. All the fluff can be cut away. So you don’t have to learn new techniques. You find better safer direct and indirect ways to attack these points. The rest of your time is spent training your body to refine this process.

Followup question: if the opponent blocks your right hand backfist intended to hit his jaw with his right hand, what would you recommend? What do you think about the following ideas? 1. The Wing Chun answer: You can lap sau that barrier (especially if he gives forward resistance) with that backfist firing hand and hit with your left if you don't have enough floorspace. 2. Dynamic martial arts answer (kickboxing): Try and use footwork if you have the space to fire over the barrier with your left hand. (What would you do with the right hand in this case?) Any other ideas appreciated, and thank you for the video Thomas!

Disengaging, attacking other openings, watch my videos on trapping.

Wing Chun trapping is as direct as it comes, there's a reason JKD students go to Wing Chun and not the other way around. I studied JKD, Thai Boxing, Wing Chun and other arts, and I know for a fact that Wing Chun is the absolute best option when it comes to trapping, linear movementand becoming a fighter between JKD and WC. If you study under a Jason Och, Dominick Izzo or even a Gary Lam, your tools will be there and your overstanding of concepts and applications will lead you to overstand why JKD exists. In all honesty Bruce was not a good teacher of Wing Chun and he did not in the slightest overstand structure and you can see it with Jesse Glover's chi sau and how he teaches. Watch Dominick Izzo. He breaks everything down on his channel.

It's an isometric squat can be useful with resistance bands or holding weights , just don't over do the time , I did a traditional kung fu style way back we had to hold the horse stance for around 45 minutes while punching. Experiment with it .

@@sunn209 it's simply an exercise , not a fighting thing just as a top n bottom bag or skipping rope . Do you , yourself not use isometric exercises ?

At street battale it's work as like slap.not so more.first time if you can smack of back fist so you can harder hit but the battling mid time it's not work much.cause your opponent Will be aggressive and conscious.

What you are saying, YOUR backfist works as a slap, right... Tommy for example, has knocked countless people with this punch out, during his time as bouncer in Glasgow. This punch is the one he used the most often.

@@ThomasMarxJKD I said at street battale first time if you can hit by back fist so it works perfectly and during fight it's not much work. Cause opponents are that time aggressive. Remember I said battle starting time.
@ThomasMarxJKD2 жыл бұрын
@@rananasim1852 You can use any technique during the "battle", depending on distance, angle and footwork, you can one but not other and vice versa. This is true as for back fist as for any other punch or kick. You cant generalist it.

Interesting that you advocate traditional knuckle conditioning methods like Iron Palm for developing bone strength. There is some controversy about them and I would have expected you to denounce these methods. I do not really know enough about it to really argue for either side of it, myself. I just found it interesting since you usually disagree with most traditional asian martial arts practices in your videos. Good explanation and I would like to see more of your backfist techniques. It is one of my favorite punches, and many people argue that hammerfists are a better alternative, but they have different mechanics so I think they both have their niche.
@ThomasMarxJKD Жыл бұрын
Its simple: conditioning knuckles subject is not the same as actual fighting realism. One has not necessarily to exclude the other. Like, also traditional martial arts can do weight lifting.
